i do find it interesting that every time, every single time without fail that someone criticizes her in any way shape or form, someone comes bursting in like the fucking kool aid man blasting through the wall to scream MISOGYNY!!!! sometimes they even claim that they aren't a fan, but they make damn sure to let you know that if you have something negative to say about this billionaire who has been privileged from birth, you hate women.

Agree.

And I love so so SOO many actually artistically inclined, talented solo female singers. I love way more female singers than male ones - it’s just her I dislike

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 07:32 pm (UTC)(link)
There are kool-aid men on both sides, TBF.

The slightest hint of criticism is met with cries of 'misogynistic hater' and "don't you know she single-handedly reinvented the entire world of popular music so how dare you belittle her millions upon millions of accomplishments!!!!"

Meanwhile, the mildest word of praise is met with cries of 'brainless swiftie' and "don't you know she is single-handedly responsible for every single environmental disaster in history so how dare you imply her music is catchy????"

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 07:35 pm (UTC)(link)
For me it's that there are plenty of other artists, not even male, that have had the same privileged upbringing that she has, have made it in the industry, and they don't get half the hate, most of the time they straight up get ignored in all this online posturing completely.

So while I do think some of her hate is coming from a place of misogyny, because the industry marketing her team does plenty of male artists do too and they don't get lambasted for it. I also think a lot of it is pushback from her being very popular and people online wanting a 'good' reason to hate her. Rather than just admitting they hate her because she's currently popular, but it's not as righteous to admit that one is it?

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 09:23 pm (UTC)(link)
Kinda OT but what musicians had the same upbringing she did? The only people I’ve ever heard of who had NEARLY the same level of wealth and privilege are the Gyllenhaals, neither of whom are even remotely as rich or successful as she. Additionally, her pop career was literally purchased for her after she threw a tantrum about fulfilling her contractual obligations. Daddy bought out her contract and financed a new record company that was required to promote her pretty much exclusively in the beginning. If you could please list all the other artists who have that same background, I’d appreciate it.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-26 01:57 am (UTC)(link)
Here are some with wealthy backgrounds, can't say for sure how much help they all had, but some of them definitely got a leg up.

Mark Ronson - born in Notting Hill, London, to Laurence Ronson, a then music manager and publisher, now real estate developer, and Ann (née Dexter), a writer, jewelry designer, and socialite. After his parents' divorce, Ann married Foreigner guitarist Mick Jones. Jones wrote Foreigner's song "I Want to Know What Love Is" about his burgeoning relationship with her. Ronson, along with his mother, stepfather, and sisters, moved to New York City when he was eight years old. Living on the Upper West Side of Manhattan, Ronson counted Sean Lennon among his childhood friends. At age 12, being a self-described music nerd, he pestered Rolling Stone founder Jann Wenner into an internship at the magazine. Ronson attended high school at the private Collegiate School in Manhattan before attending Vassar College and then New York University.

Kid Rock - born in Romeo, Michigan, the son of Susan (née Brabbs) and William "Bill" Ritchie (1941–2024), who owned multiple car dealerships. He was raised in his father's large home on extensive property, which included an apple orchard and barnyard for their horses.

Adam Levine - born in Los Angeles to Fredric Levine, the founder of retail chain M. Fredric, and Patsy (née Noah) Levine, an admissions counselor.

Jack Harlow - born in Louisville, Kentucky. He is the son of Maggie (née Payette), a businesswoman, and Brian Harlow, and was raised on a horse farm near Shelbyville.

Steve Aoki - born in Miami, Florida, but grew up in Newport Beach, California. His father was a former wrestler who also founded the restaurant chain Benihana.

Julian Casablancas - born in New York City, the son of American-Spanish businessman John Casablancas, the founder of Elite Model Management, and Jeanette Christiansen (née Christjansen), a Danish model and the 1965 Miss Denmark who later became an artist.

Ed Sheeran - born on 17 February 1991 in Halifax, West Yorkshire, England. Sheeran's parents, John and Imogen, are from London. John is an art curator and lecturer, and Imogen is a culture publicist turned jewelry designer. His parents ran Sheeran Lock, an independent art consultancy, from 1990 to 2010.

Lady Gaga - born into an upper-middle-class Catholic family in Lenox Hill, Manhattan, New York City. Her parents are Cynthia Louise (née Bissett), a philanthropist and business executive, and Internet entrepreneur Joseph Germanotta. She was brought up on the Upper West Side of Manhattan.

Ariana Grande - born in Boca Raton, Florida. She is the daughter of Joan Grande, the Brooklyn-born CEO of Hose-McCann Communications, a manufacturer of marine communications equipment owned by the Grande family since 1964, and Edward Butera, a graphic design firm owner in Boca Raton.

Miley Cyrus - born in Franklin, Tennessee, to Leticia "Tish" Jean Cyrus (née Finley) and country singer Billy Ray Cyrus.

What sticks out to me about this is you saying they "claim" not to be a fan, like you can't imagine someone who isn't secretly a Swift fan would notice that female celebs get scrutinized and picked on way more than male ones.

I don't even have a horse in this race, I don't think about Swift at all unless someone else brings her up, but... that's a little odd to me.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Because they don’t?

Who gets more flake between 1D, a kpop boyband, TWICE and Beyoncé?

Uh, no. I say this as someone who has been very vocal about absolutely despising her for being a mediocre ultra privileged piece of shit who only has a career because daddy’s millions bought her one.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-26 11:29 am (UTC)(link)
And I will never understand this particular type of hate. So what if her daddy bought her career? Good for her. My dad got me a job interview at my first job. Should I have declined that interview? Should she have declined her daddy's help and money? Would you have?
And I say this as someone who finds a small portion of her songs kinda catchy.

I honestly wouldn't even care if her zealous fanbase were less annoying and I didn't have to see shit about whatever "era" she's on in the news, next to articles about essential services being defunded and children being abused.
Celeb shit and her type of pop music are the furthest thing from my interest, but just keep it out of my face and we're golden. The problem is that they can't.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 09:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Sure, but the haters are just as much keeping her in the news and in the public eye. The obsessive fans are obnoxious, but so are the obsessive haters.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 09:29 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 09:46 pm (UTC)(link)
I feel the same exact way about seeing sports news next to tragic news stories and such. It's jarring. Certain entertainment is given a really high priority int he news cycle, I guess.

Honestly, the only reason I think sports are in the news at all is because rich people bet on their teams.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
It's just so weird that you and others apparently dwell in so many spaces where you can't possibly avoid running into hordes upon hordes of rabid Swifties who will tell you about their lady and saviour, whether you want to or not. Because that basically never happens to me. Hell, my best friend is kind of a (very low-key) Swiftie and I very rarely talk with her about Swift.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
I mean I manage to avoid news about her pretty easily and I look at a few mainstream news websites every day. Maybe it's just not as constant where I live because I'm not in the US, but without F!S I wouldn't really hear about her much good or bad.

I love that pop culture news appears next to depressing news, and I don't even care about pop culture news. It reminds me that people are still able to have fun and get excited about things instead of completely wallowing in despair and lack of control over all the depressing stuff.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
As someone who likes a few of her songs but doesn't care about her beyond that... I think certain criticism of her does sound misogynistic depending on how it's said.

For instance, claiming that her only good songs were written by men is misogynistic. Claiming that she is single-handedly destroying the environment with her private jet because she's a spoiled rich super villain while letting big corporations owned by male billionaires (that do far worse damage) off the hook also has strong notes of misogyny.

However, simply saying you don't like her music and you're absolutely sick of seeing her everywhere and tired of seeing everyone make a big deal out of her is a totally legit reason on its own to hate her.

This!

(Anonymous) 2025-10-25 10:05 pm (UTC)(link)
When you get insane weirdos who keep going on about how this bland pop star is literally Satan and AKsHUallY worse than Musk, Bezos and other male billionaires who are objectively WAY worse then yes, that's likely misogyny. Or a mental illness. Possibly both.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-26 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
A lot of it is sexist, though not all of it. It's totally valid to just not like Taylor Swift's music and wish you never had to hear about her again. But denying that her skill and hard work has been a core part of her success? Yeah, that's sexist. Implying that the men in her life are responsible for creating her best art? Sexist AF. Mentally turning her into a hated symbol of a hundred systemic issues, quite a few of which she has no connection to whatsoever? I mean, you can say it's not sexism, but it's not a coincidence that the public figures who are objectified in this way are women the vast majority of the time.

(Anonymous) 2025-10-26 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
It's usually an unhealthy dose of (internalised) misogyny/sexism and a heaping pile of envy. So, so much envy. Also her being an easier target than a man or a POC woman because it falls in the socially acceptable bracket of "you won't get cancelled for hating her" and "it's not actually dangerous to massively hate on her".

Everyone seems obsessed with either worshipping her or hating her. Meanwhile, I find myself unable to work up any passionate feelings towards her. She's really just too generic for me to love or hate, and I remain baffled by it all.

Her version of feminism also seems the standard boilerplate white feminism that has little meaningful insight to offer outside of #girlboss kind of statements.
