I love getting hyperfixated on something, writing 40,000+ words of different EXPLICIT fanfics in a few weeks, posting to AO3, and then vanishing forever. It's unironically one of my favorite activities.

Although I haven't hyperfixated in about 5 years. Combo of purity culture and the absence of a thriving central community space to drive fixation and creativity. Might be done for good at this point, but I'm proud of what I've put out there and happy that some of it still seems to speak to people.

I don't think RPF is any different from other fanfiction. They are all about fictionalized personas. People are not really writing about Jensen Ackles, they are writing about their fiction version of him.

I've never met anyone who thought they'd make a compelling self-insert character that was interesting enough to be correct about that.

Then again, I suppose people who are actually exciting don't sit around writing self-insert fic. No shade for the people who do it for fun privately.

I'm normie AF too. Can't fathom why some people think their self-inserts would interest anybody other than themselves and post to fic sites though.

Question about FS of days past - “you sound white and ____”

I remember this being a short-lived meme around here, based on a snarky comment. I’m pretty sure the phrase was “you sound white and ____” though I can’t remember what the other word was.

It popped into my head the other day with the discussion on generic middle-aged white men and I hoped a few days of marinating would churn up the answer, but no luck.

Anyone else remember this?
