Inspired by 1 - What entertainers do you find endearing?

And which ones do you find absolutely grating and unwatchable?

I cannot stand Matthew McConaughey. I don't like his face, voice, acting. Anything.

Yeah, I’m not a fan either. I think he can act, there’s just something about him that I don’t enjoy.

I have no reason for this but I despise Ben Stiller. I don’t think he’s funny, I don’t think he can act, and he has the most punchable face I’ve ever seen.

But lots of people love the guy so clearly this is a me issue.

More a broad genre, and mostly among streamers and online entertainers, but the ones that devolve to reacting in whatever is the completely basic and/or deliberately edgelord contrarian way to whatever is trending in the news at the time.

They can have as wacky and quirky online persona as they like, but if they react to everything and stand for nothing, their persona ends up with no real personality besides views chasing. So why watch them, over someone else?

I used to really enjoy the dynamic between Ryan and Shane during their Buzzfeed Unsolved days but their personality over on Watcher makes me not want to watch their newer stuff.

Endearing: Mark Hamill, Ewan McGregor, Hayden Christiansen, Keanu Reaves (even though I actually don't like any of his acting), Bill Nighy, Mads Mikkelson, Karl Urban, Karen Gillan.

Grating: Tom Cruise, Adam Sandler, Shia LaBeouf, Charlie Sheen, Gwyneth Paltrow, Jesse Eisenberg

Also would add, but for entirely stupid reasons, Jennifer Morrison and Jorja Fox because I hated characters they played so much that is all I can see when I watch them.

The usual suspects: Taylor Swift, any and all Kardashians, timothy chalamet, post Malone, pre Malone, all the Maloney lol

Grating: James Franco (even before the sexual misconduct stuff came out), Tom Cruise (American Psycho vibes), Bill Murray (creepy, not funny)

What kind of traveler are you?

(Anonymous) 2025-11-07 02:41 am (UTC)(link)
Packed a week beforehand with an itinerary? Throwing things in the suitcase the day of departure and winging it? Something in between?

Do you like to research and plan all your schedule wherever you are going or are you a land in the place and see what's there person?

Re: What kind of traveler are you?

(Anonymous) 2025-11-07 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
This post brought to you by this nonny leaving everything to last minute and packing the night before departure. I also only have a vague plan of what I'm doing. This is *highly* unusual for me, but my anxiety exploded and so I am basically just "ignore it and throw myself into the trip and figure it out as I go" mode. I'll be fine, but there is definitely a part of me that is pretty annoyed that I don't have everything organized and planned out this time.

Pack the night before. Have some plans but mostly free time to do what I want. I do some research, though, just to find the things I might like to do.

I pack the night before. Even if I have plenty of time before I depart I always pack the night before because then I have everything. I might double check before leaving the house, but that's a precaution. Anything I've missed I can always buy while away (like an extra charger).

I like to plan my trips with a vague idea of what I'm doing. I don't like to be left unprepared for last minute changes.

I spend weeks writing and revising packing lists. I pack everything I can the day before and have a plan in place for the things that will get packed on departure day. If it’s a road trip, I practice packing the car as part of refining my packing lists.

I don’t really have plans during travel though. I’ll identify things I want to see and do but I keep my schedule as open as possible and only plan the next few hours as I go along. It’s more relaxing that way for me.

Pack a few days before. I research for things I most want to see as anchor points around which I will freeform as time allows.

Packed a week before kind of person. I have a bad anxiety.
I want to start packing couple of days before travel date but my brain starts screaming at me much earlier.

Re: What kind of traveler are you?

I pack some stuff in advance, but finish up the night before. Never wing it, I'm too scatterbrained for that and will need to write up lists, then consult them obsessively in case I miss something.

I do tons of research to figure out what I want to see, then narrow it down and figure out a rough itinerary so I can also figure out where to stay, how to get around, what else is in the area, etc. But it's not carved in stone, nor is it a punishing schedule. I always figure in down time if the trip is longer than a week, and it's flexible with busier days/more physically demanding days vs. slower days/relaxation so I can change that as needed.

I start mentally planning wardrobe about a week out, and will organize clothes and carryon items in the same area, but won't pack until the night before. My OCD is so bad, if I pack early, I end up unpacking and repacking every time I think, wait, did I pack THIS? Did I pack THAT?

I research ahead of time and pick out my must-do activities for each destination, then leave the rest of the time free to explore and be spontaneous.

oh I'm packed a month ahead of time, with a checklist. that way if I'm still waiting on a last load of laundry to top off my cache of socks, I know what's missing and what I need to do.

but 99% of my travel is conventions and camping, two activities where planning ahead is crucial. can't forget a single piece of a costume or I'll be mad the whole con. can't forget special wig or makeup pieces that I can't just pop down to CVS to replace. camping is so much gear, and it's far more difficult to go to a "nearest store" and pick up a replacement. at that point I might as well just go home. and now I'm old enough to have multiple prescriptions and otc meds and comfort/ability aids, there is no such thing as winging it.

that said, going to Japan was the first time I realized that normal people vacations are in real world places where you can just go to a store and buy anything you forgot (aside from Rx ofc). not that you can't at a con, but anyone who's gone to cons out of state for a long time knows that you usually, habitually, sequester yourself in the convention space and don't even really think about going out for supplies when you barely even want to leave to get food. I didn't pack a belt and it was only day 2 when I noticed my jeans were falling off my ass, so my first real shopping experience was running to Don Quijote for a belt. and then I was like wait, if I'm cold I can go buy another sweatshirt, if I run out of allergy meds I can get more (and I did!), I wasn't going to have problems if I under-prepared. Hell, I had planned from the start to just get a 500Y umbrella when/if it rained, and that didn't happen until like day 10 in Kyoto.

no advice, just anecdotes for ya in the middle of the night. I'm bored.

I'm a half-asser with loose plans. Weeks before the trip, I'll look up events, locations and restaurants around the area(s) I'll be at. If there is an event I really want to do, I'll plan ahead as best as I can. I try not to load my vacation days with a full itinerary, because I know if I do I'll spend the entire time stressing about time management.
So I might have a few things planned out, but I try not to put too much on my itinerary. I also have restaurants in mind and generally look at parks, museums, attractions, etc nearby/around. I can usually find a fun walk where I do my site seeing and/or people watching as I make my way towards a restaurant. And then after I eat I can find a place to go to or go shopping or just continue to walk around.

This is why I don't like to travel with people XD
I like just walking around and existing. I don't want to fill my trip up with event after event after event. I also get stressed out checking in with company. If I'm on vacation I just want to relax and...exist. If I want to call it a day early, I won't have to feel bad that I'm heading back to my hotel at 3PM. Or that I took a long detour and didn't make it to an event or location like I'd originally planned.

Read any good fic lately?

(Anonymous) 2025-11-07 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
For whatever you personally define as 'good.'

I haven't found anything to scratch my fic itch in ages it feels like.

BLOODY, SLUTTY, AND PATHETIC, Draco/Hermione, 195,969 words
https://archiveofourown.org/works/52884502/chapters/133769302
Hermione endures her forced marriage to Draco with gritted teeth while pursuing her political ambitions. Draco balances old friendships, dangerous old connections, and frustration at his wife not wielding the power that is her right as Lady Malfoy.
The fic that lead me down the rabbit hole of Draco/Hermione in 2025 after avoiding HP fandom as long as it existed. I like that many characters are morally grey and dangerous (including Neville Longbottom), the dynamic between Draco and Hermione especially when it comes to being Lady Malfoy, and just the way the relationship develops, which is the opposite of what is described in secret 04.

Bite Marks, Draco/Hermione, 19,481 words
https://archiveofourown.org/works/3580953/chapters/7894464
POV Draco, Republican politician son frat boy, falls hard for frazzled feminist Hermione, who is too caught up in righteousness to treat him like a human.
I like this regardless of the fandom, just as a story of humans behind stereotypes. A very refreshing read.

Keep Your Wand Up, Draco/Hermione, 19,661 words, smut
https://archiveofourown.org/works/55330801/chapters/140373466
Draco and Hermione are determined to lose their virginity, but the stakes are so high that Draco gets overwhelmed.
Awkward and sweet attempt at first-time sex.

To give a wide variety, I'd recommend almost anything by these writers, but particularly the highlighted fics. They all have a range of fandoms they write for, and write both F/M and M/M, but these ones are especial favourites.

https://archiveofourown.org/users/RyuuzaKochou/pseuds/Moxibustion

Time Bomb Town: Batman fandom, Tim/Jason
Delicious and angsty fusion with Anne McCaffrey's Talents series, I would say this is mostly Tim's journey with a bonus Jason relationship.

https://archiveofourown.org/users/spqr/pseuds/spqr

Scrape: Ted Lasso fandom, female!Jamie/Roy
A fic about Jamie Tartt as the first and only woman in the Premier League; warning for lots of in-universe misogyny but it's handled well and this is definitely Jamie Tartt, not Self-Insert-Girl-Who-Pretends-To-Be-Jamie. NSFW.

the size of the soul: Star Wars, Obi-Wan/Anakin/Padme
Intense AU fic on the fallout of Obi-Wan defending Anakin-and-Padme during an election year. Lots of pining, fatalism, joy.

https://archiveofourown.org/users/x_los/pseuds/x_los

Peerless Melons vs the Patriarchy: The Scum Villain's Self-Saving System, female!Shen Yuan/ Luo Binghe
A gorgeous fic on waiting, learning to trust, and learning to believe each other featuring Shen Yuan, fundamentally oblivious to her own emotions until they hit her with a clue-by-four. NSFW.
