I hate when a character dies just to have a clean sweep. Like, the werewolf girl in Speed Grapher’s death is completely pointless in-universe, but out-of-universe it’s a clean sweep by killing or depowering every single character with superpowers. (Speed Grapher is hilariously sex-negative and uses superpowers as a sex metaphor.)

Carl on The Walking Dead. It was pointless and you can't convince it was done so they wouldn't have to pay the actor more money.

Dean on Supernatural but at least that was so unserious it was funny.

I was fine with Jaime on GoT dying but the way he died was so stupid.

I'm still mad about Hedwig, Fred and Remus and I'm not even into HP anymore. It was just senseless (which makes sense when you see how the black mold in her home has affected her brain).

Rachel from Animorphs. I used to think it was devastating but fair that one of the main characters would die, but then KA Applegate said "The moral of these books is that you shouldn't join the military because it's bad and nobody should want to fight in a war, you're welcome for me saving you from being a warmonger" and I realized ohhh, Rachel's death was narrative punishment for the character who genuinely enjoyed the rush of a fight. I didn't even like Rachel much, but how dare a girl have hobbies (I say only half jokingly).

Mara Jade when she died in the EU. Honestly by that point the EU in general was pretty terrible. But that one made me mad.

Anya on Buffy, though I get that the actress wanted it.

I don't know if it's necessarily pointless/nonsense but I still haven't emotionally recovered from watching Logan, and it's been over a year now. I don't even care that much about the series or Logan himself, but that movie was fucking devastating. I didn't know Logan died at the end. The whole thing was so depressing. It felt like they killed off EVERYONE for no good reason. And then at the end, those kids were running off into the woods in Canada, it's like what is going to happen, they're going to die.

Tracy (the mother), in How I Met Your Mother - for real, why did they even bring someone in to play her if they were just going to fridge her so Ted could get with Robin?

It's hard to pick one death from Stranger Things. I think Barb's, Eddie's, Chrissy's, and Billy's deaths had some purpose to them (not saying any of them absolutely needed to happen, just that narratively, I can understand what they might have been going for). But both Bob's and Alexei's deaths felt gratuitous - like their characters were designed with the sole purpose of getting the audience to like them a lot so that there was a bigger emotional payoff when they died.

I'm not even going to try for Grey's Anatomy, way too many characters were killed off when they shouldn't have been.
