I never liked Rollins or...whoever that guy the added is.

IDK, L&O classic cycled through different detectives over the years and I still enjoyed it no matter who it was, but SVU is the Olivia and Elliot (and Munch and Tutuola) show, and every new cop just annoyed the shit out of me. I didn't mind different DAs, but this show is too main pair focused, like The X-Files; I didn't GAF about Doggett or Reyes either.

The title of this could have just been "Are you tired of being nice? Don't you just want to go ape shit?" And I would have watched it. Bambie, alone among all Disney stars, deserves VENGEANCE!

Characters that ruined their fandom for you

[personal profile] philstar22 2025-11-26 11:28 pm (UTC)(link)
Are there any characters you disliked so much they made it impossible or close to impossible to enjoy whatever fandom they were in?

(Anonymous) 2025-11-26 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Are all three names above the title of male actors? Because that's weird for a movie supposedly set in an all-woman town.

my bad

(Anonymous) 2025-11-26 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
that's Michelle not Michael. One out of three ain't good, but better than zero.

I heard D&D 5th Edition's "longest-ever playtest" was like this.

Tony Stark/Dr. House/Sherlock's Sherlock - at some point the "Super Smart Asshole Who's Always Right" stopped being fun and started filling me with hate. Can't even reread some of the fics I used to love.

But usually if I dislike a character so much I just don't like the thing and thus don't even think about it.

That is also a character trope I hate. They don't always ruin a thing for me. But jerks and anti-heroes are usually not among my favorite characters. I did like House, though, at least the first few seasons. For some reason he's the only one of that character type that has worked for me.

Shadow the Hedgehog. I liked him well enough during SA2, Heroes and his own game but for gods sake stop beating the fucking horse and let him die.

Watched The Untamed and have read MDZS(I wanted to see what was changed) and I absolutely cannot stand Wei Wuxian in any capacity, lol, so yeah this makes being anywhere near then fandom just a little impossible for me. But I was only into a few side ships for about 4 months before I got bored so it wasn’t that bad, I just mostly stuck to fic and didn’t try to chat to other fans.

When the main character of something is an asshole and we're only rooting for them because their enemies are worse, I'm probably not going to like the thing. Breaking Bad is a good example. the main character is terrible and there really isn't anyone to root for.

Sheppard and McKay ruined Stargate: Atlantis for me. They seem to be everyone's favorite, but for me they were both obnoxious man-children who somehow kept getting rewarded by the narrative.

I only watched season 1 and I thought his hair was fine, but every still or clip I’ve seen of season 2 and beyond makes me boggle at the styling choice for his hair because it’s just… awful. Surely they could have done something better than that. It’s like they’re tying to go for an almost Aragorn type look with the mid length hair and stubble but he’s not pulling it off at all.

I don't even mind anti-heroes! It's just the meanness with no comeuppance. The complete lack of growth. That the character should *clearly* have an arc of being less of a douche but never does!

I'd take 10 Punisher stories over one with Tony Stark because everyone* knows that the Punisher is messed up and also he'll never defeat the concept of organized crime and also he can be pleasant enough to other characters.

*Except "those" people, sadly.

MCU Tony, real 616 Tony has had plenty of introspection and isn't always unlikable.

But also! Different strokes for different folks. Viewing this characters as a kind of wish fulfillment is cool. I guess I just relate more to the person getting dunked on.

Negan on The Walking Dead. He made me stop watching the show and I held on forever.

literally watching svu right now and hard agree. I understand not being able to fill Belzer's shoes (rip) but there's so much I missed checking out almost 20 years ago. it's still on?? Olivia and Fin are the longest-running characters?? I guess we'll find out where it goes, we're in season 9, but I look forward to finding out that a character I hate goes away.

Agreed about MCU Tony. I liked him okay in his movies because he did have somewhat of an arc there. But then he'd go to the multi-character movies and lose the growth and somehow be treated like he could do no wrong and was better than everyone else. Everyone hero worshiped him to a weird degree. I get that he was the first MCU main character, but in-universe it makes no sense.

I never watched the show because I don't do zombies, but I read that they somehow tried to make him have a redemption arc that didn't really work. I hate that. I like villains, I like redemption arcs, but when they don't work, it just ruins everything. With a character who did as much truly awful as he seems to have, a redemption arc is difficult and and takes a whole lot of work that they clearly didn't put into it.

Could be worse.

So now I gotta watch the Bambi horror movie

(Anonymous) 2025-11-27 12:14 am (UTC)(link)
Haha, right?

I loved Richard Belzer, too. Fin is great, though.

I would have watched a Munch and Tutuola spinoff. Like...going after mob guys!

(Anonymous) 2025-11-27 12:19 am (UTC)(link)
Disappointed but not surprised.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-27 12:21 am (UTC)(link)
The overwhelming majority of the regular cast were men and about 2/3 of the whole cast were British. It’s just a funny way to make a western that’s supposed to be women as the majority.

What upsets you about it? Is it the idea of something cute being mocked or "tainted"? People will always make dark parodies of innocent things but that doesn't take away from the original, it's just another version of the story for people with that sense of humor. Some people get a laugh from irreverence and gross out comedy, some don't, but that type of parody existing is harmless if you ignore it. I understand being upset by things for personal reasons though.

(Anonymous) 2025-11-27 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
No, I get it, I'm a huge Muppet fan and I don't like adult Muppet parodies like Kermit Sings Hurt or stuff like that. There's so few good things in the world I just choose not to look at parodies that "Sully" Muppets.

Lucky for you...

John Munch has been in many, MANY shows, which creates a whole crossover-verse.
