I'm Suicide Anon & the IP will match up. That comment alerting you down below is a fake, because that post did NOT come from me! I didn't post anything today. That's a fake post from a troll. You're being played by someone who is not me.

I think one thing missing from modern movies is the truly epic soundtracks we used to get from Williams, Zimmer, et al. Even the classic composers have put out weaker things of late. The Dune and Star Wars sequel scores just weren't good. Epic scores take movies to a whole other level, and we just aren't getting that these days.

Even the ones that are meant to sound epic just aren't hitting the same, to me. Maybe it's just the movies I've seen, but there seems to be a the shift away from using 'full orchestra maybe plus other stuff' to more minimalistic orchestration in regards to which and how many instruments are used. Sometimes you just need to pull out all the stops to get the real epic feels.

On the other hand, at least they're listing the orchestras and/or individual musicians in the credits these days. (My dad loves to read through the credits and go "oh yeah I've played with that guy before!" or "he does lots of Hollywood stuff these days" etc. show-off)

My kingdom for movies with clear recognizable melodies and motifs that recur through the soundtrack. The last one I can think of was Pirates of the Carribean.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-18 06:12 am (UTC)(link)
All movie making arts seem to be dying, in favour of fast cuts, bright flashes, and music that is either the jump scare chord or just bland elevator music.

I don't think anyone knows how to make real movies no more.

=( Agreed Secret OP. I used to listen to soundtracks endlessly but the last movies I can think of really liking the soundtracks were Pacific Rim and Pixar's Up. I went out of my way to find the albums and I listened to music all the way through for weeks/months.

I recall really liking the soundtrack for It Follows but there is no tune that I can hear in my head that calls me back to the movie.

It feels like movie music lost its magic =( not many soundtracks now leave a lasting impression. No epic horns blaring with drums thrumming loudly with the strings swelling that immediately draw me to the Fellowship of the Ring. No pretty string notes that invoke the childlike wonder and love I felt when I watched ET as a kid.

I don't know enough about music to know why movie soundtracks aren't memorable in the same ways anymore. I just feel a little sad lol

I love 911 and loved 911 Lone Star. But I just can't get into 911 Nashville. But I'm also not sure if it is genuinely that there are no compelling characters or just a product of my general inability to get into new things for the past 3 or so years.

(Anonymous) 2026-03-18 10:49 am (UTC)(link)
I've only caught a few episodes but I just didn't vibe with the characters. It definitely feels different for some reason.

You the Game of Thrones spin off I really want? Targaryens vs Biggles; can a dragon take on a Sopwith Camel, old boy?

lol. I would be fascinated, I have to admit.

Saw the new Gen10 starters on stream and I've never been so disappointed in Pokemon designs before. I can usually find at least one starter that I like, but not in this case! There's just something so unfinished-feeling about these designs and it makes me sad. :(

secret bc everyone seems to think they're adorable and have fallen in love with them and I just do Not agree. They just don't look like Pokemon to me! :((

I will never offer to substitute in for a fic exchange again. Not after I worked my ass off to do a last minute fill for someone whose match dropped out, then all they had were complaints even after knowing it had to be done in a rush by someone not their original match.

I'm not sorry they didn't like it, I'm sorry I made the mistake of wasting my time.

I used to find the "No beta, we die like (insert character who canonically died in the related fandom)" tag kind of amusing but it started bothering me after some people started using very recent spoiler deaths for the tag.
Sure, you can argue that it's always a spoiler but "character that died in canon months ago" and "character that died in yesterday's episode" is a difference, imo.

Website obsessions

[personal profile] philstar22 2026-03-17 11:44 pm (UTC)(link)
What websites do you spend way too much time on?

For me it is Flight Rising, Youtube, Not Always Right, Tumblr, and Bored Panda. Occasionally also get dragged onto Buzzfeed and Tvtropes.
