Why are Castiel-haters so venomously rude all the time? Seriously. It's sad.

This, thank you. I'm not sure if it's one tetchy anon or a couple of them, but either way, they're extremely rude and it gets tiresome.

I feel like I may have been sheltered from their general attitude for quite a while. I only really lurk in the Dean/Castiel corner of the fandom so haven't really run into this level of hate until recently, and only at fandom-secrets. Is this what people are always talking about when they refer to spn/wincest wankiness??

It's not just here, unfortunately, though this does seem to be one of the worst places where it bubbles up. I've noticed much less wanking at the Dean-Castiel corners of fandom.

I used to see far more wankiness between the Sam and Dean girls, with Castiel being almost entirely ignored. I'll still see some of that on occasion, but it seems like a lot of ire has been transferred to Castiel these days, much of it from disappointed Sam fans. By no means all Sam fans, or even most of them, but they do seem to be a vocal minority. I think we got our bad reputation though not just because of this wankiness so much as our tendency to wank over anything and everything, from misogyny to race issues, to which character is perceived as Kripke's favorite at whatever moment. This is just the major issue right now, I think.

Well...I kinda get the gender/race issues. But I see that more as valid complaint rather than wank, I guess. Whereas the rest is just silly character-bashing and wank amongst the fans.

Oh, I totally get the gender/race issues but to me, actual discussion of those isn't wank. People wanking because other people have issues with the racism or misogyny is what I was more referring to. And yeah, I wish people would stop being so defensive. Sam is awesome! Dean is awesome! Castiel is awesome! All three together just equals more awesome!

Ah, I see what you mean, then. It's amazing how well people can close their eyes to prejudice (though maybe I'm being a little daring in using that word? Maybe it should be 'under representation'...)

Well, no, not really specifically aimed towards the secret, to be honest. It's just the culmination of all the hate I've seen recently around here towards Castiel/Misha and his fans. I just don't think there's any need. Take some of the other comments to this secret, for example.

I think a lot of the animosity comes from the fact that this comm is frequented by more Castiel/Misha people than anything else. While, sure, some people that aren't fans of his are rude and/or hostile, so too do some of the Castiel/Misha people not want to allow any negative talk of him whatsoever.

For instance, this secret isn't bashing fans of the character or anything, and yet the first response is someone calling the OP a troll, I'm sure for just disagreeing with them. There's also a bad dogpile mentality where people end up shouted, or 'spammed' down for not liking Misha or the character.

Seems very much like typical majority/minority conflict to me, with both sides guilty of wrongdoing.

Okay, fair enough if you don't like a character. But there's a difference between disliking and character and character-bashing. I'll admit straight up that maybe I'm just being biased when I say that spreading ~love~ (and funtiems, like the minions tend to do) should be far more desirable than spreading ~hate~ (i.e. Castiel's naysayers). Just let people like who/what they like and have fun with it.

I can see what you're saying. But, as a naysayer, I have to say that it's not that I like bashing, but that my love is being screwed with by the character. And also, what minions see as funtiems, other people see in a very different, non-fun light.

Likewise, I see what you're saying, and I'm sorry that your own enjoyment is affected by it all. It's difficult to see a solution to that other than to just try and avoid letting things escalate into wank.

IDK about anyone else, but I always try not to be rude, even when I'm going 'omg I find you all incredibly annoying/frustrating/creepy'. Sooooo IDK I guess I hope I don't come off that way ~~right off the bat~~.

I think that if it's not your intention to be rude, then fair enough. But with a lot of these comments I've been seeing, they definitely come across as rude.

If you find something annoying, then fair enough, though I guess it's just something you have to live with/look past/avoid as best you can. As far as I can tell, they all seem to enjoy themselves and I don't think they mean to be obnoxious in their behaviour, it's just how that comes across to a lot of people, unfortunately. It's just their way of having fun. ^_^ (And we're back to 'live and let live')

Oh for sure, haha, I'm not talking on behalf of the anons (THOUGH I MUST SAY, I FEEL A KIND OF VINDICATION FOR FINALLY NOT BEING THE LONE VOICE IN THE DARK), but for me, since I am apparently ~fandom secrets famous~ for these situations.

As someone who read F!S daily, I personally applaud you for being vocal here (and under your name). I'm open about my dislike of Castiel/Misha on my journal, but I do admittedly sometimes get a tad more wanky than I want to put my name to around here, so I stay anon.

Yeah. What got to me was not so much being the only one who wasn't anon-- it was the fact that people were saying things like 'you are the only one' as though the fact that anons had been, and have been, saying it, makes them ~not count~. B|

What the anon said above me, I applaud you for at least expressing your opinion without hiding behind anonimity like a lot of others. And honestly, you do come across as one of the less wanky ones. And outside of Castiel discussions you seem more fun-loving (not that I stalk you or anything, heh, but I noticed your name in other comment threads), and your icon itself can attest to that :P
