[Image of Los Angeles Times headline: "D4vd arrested in the slaying of Celeste Rivas Hernandez, who was found decomposing in the singer's Tesla"]

IT'S ABOUT TIME. They discovered the poor child's body 7 months ago. This adult man started talking to this CHILD when she was eleven. She was murdered before she turned 15. I hope the amount of time it has taken for him to be arrested means that the investigators were building a solid, air-tight case so that he can't worm his way out of this one, no matter how good of a lawyer he hires.

I loved his music. He is so talented. But I will never listen to any of it ever again. In hindsight, some of his songs are so unbelievably disgusting and telling. "Romantic Homicide"??? I feel absolutely sick that i ever listened to any of it.

Since you’re one of the very few people who heard of the guy before Celeste was found, it’s very strange that you’re apparently totally unaware of the case they’ve been building against him. Everyone knew the day she was found he was her murderer. But no one knew motive or means and there was evidence that he didn’t act alone. Her autopsy took time and the results were deferred. She was extremely decomposed and it took days to even identify her.

I get wanting a case to be wrapped up quickly but from the beginning it was obvious this case would require a lot of time and LAPD did a shockingly good job keeping the public informed so no one forgot about Celeste or thought they weren’t working on her case.

Never heard his music and only found out about him due to the public interest in the discovery of her body.
I've been quietly following the story, engaging just enough to know because I don't like getting deep into ongoing murder cases. A big concern was leaks in the case that causes a media shit storm. Narratives building up and getting caught up in all people involved.

It started off seeming to be going that way. Online creators pulling up old live streams, songs, pictures...seeming to be playing detective. Too many people wanting to make videos just to get clicks that reminded me of the media shitstorm around the Heard v Depp case.
But yeah, agreed that the months following the discovery of the body, the LAPD didn't add gasoline to the fire, and were competent with handling the case publicly.
I'm grateful the majority of the public discourse has been "she was a child, we have to make sure no one runs off with baseless allegations, we're going to let the facts of the case speak for itself and not create some kind of mystic aura around the person of interest/suspect."

I agree with you. I actually think the police department handled it well, for a change. 7 months does seem like a long time, but if they had arrested him sooner and then he wasn't convicted due to fast, sloppy handling of the case, people would (rightfully) be screaming about that. Taking their time is 100% the way to go. I think sometimes people get used to TV shows and other fiction where stuff is wrapped up quickly but in the real world it usually doesn't work that way. This stuff takes time and it's better that they take all the time they need and seal up any potential cracks that the perpetrator could slither through.

We really need to bring back teaching what "Hindsight is 20/20" means.

Only slightly related, rambling, unhelpful, sorry

Tl;Dr - be easy on yourself. It would have been insane to listen to a song and think the singer could/would take the metaphor literally. Also, yeah, cases actually take a while to build.

But like, you can sing/write/draw/whatever about crazy stuff and the audience is *naturally* going to assume the crazy is intended. That singing about a romantic murder is a metaphor for a break up, or other complicated emotions. I didn't (and still don't!) assume Carrie Underwood fucks up every boyfriend's car with a bat, I know that song tells the story of extreme actions to convey a feeling of catharsis or whatever. "I dug his number from my phone/and moved on to healthily and happily live alone" isn't necessarily something a dozen teen girls will sing around a bonfire to vent their angst.

If I were to go out tomorrow and stab a man to death with a broken bottle you could put together an edit of my posts and emails where I say things like "I'll kill him if he forgets the potato salad" and "I want to have the energy of a wine mom holding a chunk of the bottle's neck as a shiv for my next dnd character" and the like to paint me as someone who's been hiding the desire to stab people all my life. But I'm not! (I'm a blunt force trauma girlie I SWEAR)

TW IRL rape/pedophilia
I listened to the Behind the Bastards episode about Jimmy Savile (If you aren't from the UK or up on BBC history, he was a dj/tv personality/famous guy who abused So! Many! People! including kids) And the cohost was constantly SHOCKED that he'd make jokes about finding little girls attractive and that the audience would laugh. And, like, the audience didn't assume he was abusing 12 year olds. The assumed he was being silly by stating something pretend. Like calling a grandma "young lady" or reacting to a toddler's foam sword like you've been hit by a bat. I'm not saying it's *good* and indeed I'm glad a kid's attractiveness isn't a permitted topic of jokey jokes anymore (in my circles at least). But I can see where you'd be standing to laugh at a joke, and that you wouldn't assume a kid is actually in danger from a "Future Lady Killer" baby onsie. And, like, if the guy making these jokes also has a personal suite in the women's wing of a psych hospital that should raise a zillion red flags. Although it's hard to argue this when it feels like every male public figure is a danger to others. But I think that's because of how power works and I hate it.

But I just! People usually don't assume outlandish statements are literal. Because they usually aren't! AHHHH!

But no, yeah, forgive yourself. I'm sorry an artist you like's bad behavior ruined his art for you. We can all hope truth and justice will win out.
