IDK, I do feel like they kind of reduced her character to Spock's arm candy/Kirk's cockblock a bit. But then again it was a two hour movie so they wasn't much time to develop her.

I like Spock/Uhura as much as I like Spock/Kirk, I just prefer them all being 'single' so stupid people don't bash Uhura in fic and we can interpret sexual tension as we wish.

U mad? But seriously, only a small contingent of the K/S population feels exactly as you describe and with that much vitriol. Most of us just find small faults with her character aside from "blocking" our ship. I love a lot of female characters that "block" my ship, not only in this fandom but in many other fandoms, so it has nothing to do with blocking or not blocking. If anything, I blame the writers for not giving her more to do besides be Spock's girlfriend and piss off Kirk. Her entire story revolves around what the men are doing. Trust me, if my sister, who is 100% het and watches Lifetime all day can watch the movie for the first time, turn to me and go, "wtf is this?", then it's not solely about shipping, it's about what the writers went with.

Also, K/S fans are actually not nearly as bitter or as assholic as you make them out to be, simply because TOS had enough slash to appease us until the end of time. Hell, I personally hope that if they continue with Spock/Uhura, they'll rev up the Kirk/McCoy. It's all good.

Omg shut up already! No one cares if you ship K/S or S/U or Scotty/Keenser or Spock!Prime/Ice-monster, just enjoy whatever you like and let others do the same. There'll always be idiots who can't stop whining about their precious pairing and how it's "canon" or whatever, but honestly who cares? And if someone doesn't like a character, doesn't matter if it's Uhura or anyone else, so what? Since when is it a crime to dislike characters? For the most part I don't care all that much, but I think the main reasons I hate the pairing are because:

-I highly doubt Spock of all people would get involved with someone who's essentially his student, it would get them both kicked out

-It's pretty boring.

-I personally don't see it working.

-Going on the original TOS characterizations it just isn't there

-I hate the new!Uhura so much, I think they really dropped the ball on that one.

I'm not fond of Spock/Uhura because I don't think it makes sense. I think shipping characters so early on in a supposed multi-part franchise was so stupid. I know and recognise that this was an AU verse but they didn't give us a chance to accept the fact that some of the characters we've known for years where all of a sudden a couple. I think the same of Chapel/Spock, having this sudden realisation would've been just as unacceptable.

I prefer Uhura's character over Chapels because I think she's infinitely more interesting and with development could be with Spock but I think it was just handled badly.

I feel the need to say to the proudly wank-free Kirk/McCoy shippers that you guys would be getting the same shit if Kirk/Uhura was canon.
If we just reminded ourselves that there are always some dumbasses that make everybody else look bad, the criticism to what some of the K/S shippers are saying might actually be...IDK, constructive? Because as it is, people judge this shit to reflect on all of the shippers and the shippers get too defensive of being judged to pick up the actual point. Cause really, if you've never said any of this shit, you have no reason to be offended. The secret isn't even implying that we're all the same.

Kirk/Spock is my OTP, and I agree with this secret sfm.

The only reason I don't like S/U is because it's cockblocking my ship. If I didn't ship K/S, but instead shipped K/B or something else that didn't involve Spock or Uhura, I think I'd be okay with S/U.
