I actually do not mind anime. And I find knowing the tropes and slang interesting.

But am seriously puzzled by the amount of anime fans I hang out with. I seem to gravitate towards them and I do not know why.

Well, there are people who dislike TV and only like books(for example), but I don't like how to move people tend to act like western TV shows, movies, books, and the like are all different ways of presenting a story regardless of genre, whereas to them anime/manga is a genre like sci-fi, fantasy, and romance are :|

Well, this is a give and take sort of thing. If you are always sensitive that the topics you talk on are things that your friends are also more or less equally interested in, then yeah, you can expect the same level of consideration. If however you squee about what lights your fires without noticing that your friends are nodding while their eyes glaze, you really can't expect them to do anything different for you.

Personally, I've found it worth while to try to learn about things that don't naturally interest me, that way, even though I'll never be as enthusiastic as my friend, I can at least understand her enjoyment. And sometimes I can find something about it that will interest me.

LOL @ people who can't understand a dislike for an entire animation genre. There are tons of people who hate Western cartoons. So why can't there be a person who dislikes anime?

In fact I know a whole bunch of people who despise modern Japanese cartoons. Why? Because of the way it's drawn, because of the horrible clichés and so on...

I also know people who say "I don't like to read" or "I don't like TV" or "I don't listen to music" (yes!). So disliking anime as a whole is not so weird as you might think.

I actually don't mind anime but I hear you, OP.

Oh god LOLing at all these anime fans who are obviously butthurt over someone not actually liking anime. Yes, it's possible. If you like it, have at it don't let us stop you from liking it. However, there are people that see big eyed, big breasted, hideous cartoon art and there's nothing wrong with that either. Different strokes, people.

This secret kinda pisses me off, as I had a friend distance herself from me on the basis that me and a couple of others were 'talking about anime all the time so we don't have anything in common anymore.' Which I thought was bullshit then and still think is now, as I had friends at the time (and still do) who aren't into anime. Yeah, sometimes fangirls will fangirl, but all it takes is a few comments of 'hey, let's talk about something else' to steer a conversation around. And being passive-aggressive and posting secrets like this to F!S just makes me think the OP is a serious bitch.

Not only that, someone who is DETERMINED to never see anime ever like the OP makes me think they've got a number of sticks up their ass. What, not even a single Miyazaki movie?

I never understood the 'my friends all want me to get into this and they push so I refuse to do it rargh' mentality. Yeah, it might get annoying, but give it a try and see at least enough to say 'I tried it and I don't like it' and get them off your back. Or who knows, you may end up liking it.
