Well, mpreg is definitely not my thing, but... I guess anything can be taken seriously if written well enough? I just go with YMMV, your kink is not my kink, etc. Of course those of us who don't like mpreg aren't going to appreciate the stories where it's taken seriously, but we shouldn't automatically think less of those who can.

Eh, it's a kink. There are a lot of intense emotions surrounding pregnancy, and a lot of people ship slash, so I don't think mpreg fic is that weird. It's not my personal cup of tea, but I love the occasional pregnancy fic for couples I ship, so I can see where they're coming from.

I'm not sure what you mean by "serious"--for me MPREG is a squick in general, I'm not really sure why tbh, but that said, there are some scenarios where I can deal with it. They do sort of require being taken "seriously", though, in order to provide basis for why it's possible, which seems to get around the squick, somewhat. Basically if it's crack I'll get grossed out, but if there's justification, I can accept it.

Example, on an anon prompt, I'll skip reading any fills for prompts that are similar to "MPREG, X and Y are having a baby and X is all sensitive about the changes to his body" but I'll be intrigued by "MPREG, X needs an incubator for eggs and wants Y to carry them."

On a more prosaic level, a trans man being pregnant is sort of an "oh, well, sure" reaction (and actually I haven't read an MPREG in quite some time but boy does that sound like an interesting thing to read about).

Anyhow, it seems my internal squick line is drawn along a biological male who doesn't have the internal plumbing somehow having a baby without some explanation.

This. XD The art really made me giggle. Reminds me of the first mpreg I ever read when I was like 14/15 and it was LOTR Legolas/Elrond and pretty much every time they had sex Legolas got pregnant and eventually they had a whole army of children.

I saw a fic of Byakuya from Bleach going through a pregnancy and was pretty traumatized. IDK...uh, do you WANT your favorite characters to have problems with their rectum for the rest of their lives?!

Anyway, whatever. It's not my thing, never will be. But I've learned it's a kink within the fandom (and, goodness, it's all over the Young Justice fandom) so I'm not going to try and bash anyone's interests.

I dunno, if the author can find a reason for a guy to be pregnant, say, magic, dread eldrich horror impregnated him, or an AU where everyone is hermaphaditic or something along that line, I don't mind.

If they just keep it vague and you are left wondering how the hell the baby got to be in there, then I spend the entire fic trying to figure out the mechanics of it and it makes it hard to take the story seriously.

The only fic I ever wrote was a cracky parody of Legolas/Aragorn mpreg in which Legolas misses his elf-period and Aragorn tries to convince him to get a magical abortion.

It was... pretty damn stupid.

Looks like it's perfectly fine to be a pedo on the internet, but if you like mpreg fic, you're totally despicable and disgusting. Fandomsecrets is teaching me so much about right and wrong and acceptable behavior.

Mpreg completely baffles me. It doesn't squick me out, necessarily, it just confuses me. Especially if there's no explanation provided, like... "Oh look, this dude is pregnant."

That's also why that one film with Arnold Schwarzenegger baffled me. (I forget the title.)
