Does anyone else think that all the typos in this secret were deliberate, and that OP is trolling? >_>

(Anonymous) 2011-04-16 09:50 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm thinking their first language isn't English. Also: trolling, what? It would be a really weird trolling attempt if it was one. I mean, where's the possible wank?

HERMIONE IS THE ROOT OF ALL EVIL, THE NEXT DARK LADY UMBRIDGE CLONE!! FINDING HER INSPIRATIONAL MEANS YOU WANT TO RAPE PEOPLE'S MINDS!!!

Not trolling-for-wank, more trolling in the sense of posting-a-fake-secret-and-hoping-for-amusing-responses. I don't know, the combination of "IM SO SMRT" and the typos just seemed a bit... off, to me. But you're right, their first language might not be English, in which case I'm sorry for jumping to conclusions.

typos are because of a hurry
also, what's trolling about this seret?

(Anonymous) 2011-04-16 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
It was actually the OP's choice of using a generic cute anime girl to portray Hermione that had me thinking troll. Might as well have used a dollmaker and then slapped the name Hermione over it, for the same amount of ICness.

Why don't you use this in a positive way? When you're trying to study hard, think "what would Hermione do?" :D

(Anonymous) 2011-04-16 09:54 pm (UTC)(link)
Barely related, but that pic is adorable.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-16 09:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Why can't you change your priorities? If laziness truly controls your life, you should get help. If it's something you can change and want to change, do it. Sounds to me like you haven't even tried.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-16 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
So...why not use Hermione as your inspiration? It might sound really corny, but people have posted all kinds of weird, funny inspirational secrets. You don't have to *tell* people what motivates you, just that your priorities have changes and you want to focus more on your studies.

It will do you no good in the future if you slack off with your studies. Sure you have all these good times with your friends to remember, but it won't mean a thing if you're stuck flipping burgers for the rest of your life because your grades were horrible.

You *can* change your priorities, OP. You just don't *want* to.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-16 10:34 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm kinda.... too lazy.
Besides - I used to have a very little amount of friends, almost no friends. So now I grab any opportunity to have fun with those friends I got lately..

I thought: huh, who is this?

(Anonymous) 2011-04-16 10:15 pm (UTC)(link)
Then I went: Oh, it's supposed to be Hermione.

It made me 0.o and wonder why you would choose that instead of one that made it obvious who you were talking about.

Slightly OT

[identity profile] mentalguru.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 10:19 pm (UTC)(link)
TBH, while different house AUs place Hermione as a Ravenclaw a lot, I kind of more see her as a Hufflepuff in terms of work ethic in any case sometimes. I mean I'm pretty sure you can have Puffs which get excellent grades because they study like hell. Which Hermione would be. Not to say she couldn't be a 'Claw either though. Plus I think Hermione is pretty loyal- she'll help her friends even when they don't appreciate the type of 'help' she gives all the time and all (like the broomstick in book 3).

I also cannot for this reason ever see Ron as a 'Puff either (he doesn't work hard, but I guess even though he has his limits he can be loyal when he wants to be... but not all the time, so I'm unsure of where he'd fit in outside of Gryffindor). Maybe Slytherin even for his chess skills could be latent cunning/logic skills if he'd got the right encouragement and gotten over the horror of the idea or Rowling had actually decided to mold him into that sort of role over time. IDEK.

Anyone else?

I hadn't really thought of Hermione as a Hufflepuff before, but I can see it now.

I think Gryffindor and Hufflepuff are very similar in terms of favourable traits. Not that they're interchangeable, but they value similar traits like loyalty and bravery etc. So I can see Hermione as a Hufflepuff but when I think of an AU sorting for her my mind jumps to Ravenclaw, but I like the idea of her being placed in Hufflepuff.

This has actually my train of thought for a while. Ravenclaw is for witty and intelligent people, and while Hermione is book-smart, during her sixth year Potions, I found if she had actually been Ravenclaw-smart, she would have tried to do what Harry did, but of her own accord (mixing up her own potions to get a better result when she found out Slughorn wasn't as good as Snape).

But I think even JKR was kind of thinking of Hufflepuff as the misc. house at some point :/ And a lot of people still think of Hufflepuff as the misc. house which is why they think Ron might as well have been booted in there. But I agree that he might be in Slytherin. His chess skills show some smarts in there despite his book-dumb-ness, but it's not exactly Ravenclaw-smarts.

I really love you for this comment, you know.

I've always thought this :) I mean, she could work as a Ravenclaw, but I think Hufflepuff makes more sense. And I agree about Ron too.

[identity profile] sairei.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 10:42 pm (UTC)(link)
(I had no idea the girl is supposed to be Hermione until I read the comments.)

[identity profile] fenrischained.livejournal.com 2011-04-16 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Much as your choice of picture annoyed me (that's not Hermione, sorry, love), I can oddly sympathise.

I've got over my laziness by a combination of fictional inspiration (WWFD is my life philosophy - What Would Faramir Do?), setting myself a spectacularly high target (study medicine at Cambridge, yeesh), and, uh... getting a disease that forced me to cram everything into seven hours a day so I can rest. Wouldn't recommend that last part. But seriously. It can be fixed. :)

I now return you to your regularly scheduled rant at poor image choice.

[identity profile] flipthefrog.livejournal.com 2011-04-17 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
Unless it is negatively and seriously impacting your grades, i.e. you are going to fail out of school, there is nothing wrong with going out with your friends to the bars instead of studying. Test tomorrow that you need to pass? Yeah, make like Hermione and spend the night with a pile of books. Saturday night? Go have fun!

I personally hung out with a hell of a lot of Hermiones in high school, but not everybody can live with just studying all the time. You need to have a life outside of school, otherwise you will go insane from stress. All the people I know who were doing well in school also made time for hanging out, watching movies, and partying with the rest of us. You aren't being lazy.

Sorry if this is incoherent, this was my study break and half of my brain is currently functioning in a foreign language.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-17 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, I understand how you feel. I'm naturally smart so most things come easily to me so in high school/university I never really studied. I did okay with my grades and everything but I know I could have done better... I'm not sure I regret it or not but I do often regret how lazy I am. I'm not ambitious at all and I wish I was so I could actually accomplish something great.

(Anonymous) 2011-04-17 10:43 am (UTC)(link)
I'm exactly like Hermione, except that I'm not overly intelligent. I'm intelligent enough, and I've excelled at all of my exams (perfect score), but I've worked very hard for it, to the point of physical exhaustion. I actually regret it, because I had almost no social life during that time. Enjoy your social life, anon, time and memories are a resource, as well, and if you spend a lot of time with your friends, you'll actually have something nice to remember later, when you graduate.
