Lesbian here, and I didn't like it just because it felt preachy. I still bought her t-shirt at the concert because I love Gaga, but my god it was preachy. I think maybe her heart was in the right place doing it (or she realizes she has lots of gay fans) but I genuinely think she was trying to spread a message of diversity. It'd be nice to see a star that's not straight/white/otherwise privileged do it, but obv we're not to that point culturally yet.

I still don't like it because I hate feeling preached to in music. Loooove all the rest of her songs though. I'm a fan of Gaga, not a hater of any sort, and went to her concert... but the song is preachy. (Now, ask my about Katy Perry. "I Kissed a Girl" is using us as a stunt. Born This Way wasn't I don't think... Maybe a stunt, but the right kind aside from being too darned preachy.)

Ok, The song isn't perfect, but to call it 'appropriation' would require a rather broad interpretation of what that word means. I'm not sure I would even go so far as to say that getting offended on other people's behalf and thinking they're wrong for not agreeing with you would truly count as appropriation either, but it's certainly a hell of a lot more patronising than singing a song about how everyone has the right to feel good about themselves.
