If you're a total judgmental asshole to someone and you make your dislike of a kink personal that person has the right to be an asshole right back, regardless of your own personal reasons for being offended by that particular kink

I drew a few Nazi pictures a while back of a character, in canon, who was hinted at being a Nazi no-less from a book, that I had on my Ygal and DA.

Then, I had some girl who was somewhat of a BNF, go on a HUGE tirade about how [my name] is a huge Nazi scumbag and and white supremacist in her LJ and forum group.

(1) I put disclaimers all the time under my art that I don't condone what the Nazis did and I just like the outfits, etc.
(2) Said BNF never said anything to me personally, but rather said things about me everywhere else.
(3) Wut?

The only problem with saying "that kink disgusts me" is that someone is going to immediately turn that into "you disgust me." And then it turns into a shit show. Because people automatically make it personal even if the person never intended for it to be so.

The fact that some of these comments are people defending their kinks in a very hostile way just shows that. The OP isn't even saying "OMG your kinks are disgusting" or anything like that. The OP is just saying that people who don't like your kink/are triggered by it have a right to say that without getting flamed, just like you have a right to like it without getting flamed by someone who doesn't.

Exactly! Freedom of expression goes for people who disagree with you, too. There's a difference in "I hate XXX" versus "I hate all fans of XXX" and a lot of people tend to assume the latter, even when it's clearly stated as the former.

I'm not denying those people exist either. I think a lot of times it's because they are being overly defensive about it. But it's pretty annoying to have a kink for something you know is wrong IRL to the point that you already feel guilty about it, and then on top of that have someone call you disgusting and all sorts of other negative epithets. Like people can control what they get off to. Yes, people can choose to not act on those urges in real life, but fantasy is fantasy, what is the point of making people feel bad about it?

I would also like to really point out that the "pedo" thing is particularly annoying when a) the "children" in question are actually teenagers, therefore making it not pedophilia and not even illegal in some places, b) you get off to the age difference because, to quote moot, "I wish to be the little girl" and c) one of the reasons it's a kink in the first place is because you experienced it IRL. So I think it's actually insensitive on the part of some of these people to "call people out" for their socially unacceptable kinks when they were molested, statutory raped, or whatever as kids AND THAT'S WHY THEY HAVE THE KINK IN THE FIRST FUCKING PLACE

I don't think the OP is saying that anyone has the right to flame you or make personal attacks on you because you have a kink. The OP is just saying that people also have the right to say they don't like a kink without getting flamed or accused of attacking someone. There are a lot of people who will go on tirades about how disgusting they think a person is for having a kink and those people are out of line. But simply expressing your dislike of a kink doesn't automatically mean you're making disparaging comments about a person and a lot of people take it that way.

It looks like you missed my other comment about this. Again, it's not those people's voices the OP is defending. It's the voices of the people that have had those things happen to them and are definitely NOT into those kinks. When they say that they don't like X kink because X happened, people tend to say "Just don't read the fucking fic!" or "Pay attention to the fucking warning!" or "Some people like them and they had X happen to them too so don't go judging people." The person never even said they read the fic and they probably go to a lot of trouble not to get triggered. They also never said anything about judging anyone or thinking anyone is gross/disgusting/etc. But the fact is that they can't even say they don't like a kink without people assuming they go looking for the fic just to complain about it or that they're automatically saying that people who have those kinks are disgusting and shouldn't have them, when it's often nothing like that.

For instance, if a secret was "I don't know why people don't get off on X kink" or "I really like X kink" and someone commented saying that they don't like it for "such and such" reason (and they were really civil), people would automatically scream "THEN DON'T FUCKING READ IT!" even though the person never said anything about having read anything. If the person said "I personally think that X is gross and I can't get off on it," a ton of people would start flaming them about how they're judging people and "how dare you kink shame!" or "I think you're disgusting for calling people disgusting" when the person never said anything about people being disgusting.

If I say I don't like apples and I find them disgusting, I'm not labeling as "disgusting" every person for whom apples are a favorite fruit. But a lot of people can't differentiate between "general claim" and "personal attack" and they go off on people for no reason, telling them to STFU and all that nonsense when the person has just as much right to express their dislike as another person does to express how much that kink turns them on.

Most, if not all, people have experience some form of abuse during their life and amazingly most people still manage to not take everything personally and judge other people for their harmless kinks. We can't go around treating someone like porcelain just because they experienced something awful. Everyone does, it's part of life. As long as people warn for extreme stuff with trigger warnings and put it behind a cut I don't see any valid reason to complain about this.

Also; what about those of us who have "abuse/rape/pedophilia/insert other bad kinks" because we experienced it? Are we allowed to feel angry about being judged or is it only the "pure, innocent" survivors that it's not okay to be "mean" towards? Cause being called an abuser for liking something as a result of abuse seems way more damaging than telling someone not to read something if they find it offensive.

Being raped or abused doesn't give you a free pass to be an asshole to everyone else. And I'M NOT TALKING ABOUT merely saying "well, I think this kink is disgusting and it offends me," THAT'S OKAY. What I am talking about, and it happens quite frequently, especially on here, is someone getting personally offended by something and deciding to get on their moral high horse and tell everyone who has a certain kink that they are all horrible people who should all be ashamed of themselves. Late to the party, but I really need to get this off my chest:

It seems as if most people are confusing the issue of "which side is right" with "which behavior is right." Some people say: don't bully or shame people for their kinks. Others: don't bully or shame people for being personally troubled by a kink. But very few (*steadfastly ignores Certain Commenter above*) are saying "all kinks are bad (*except mine)" or "no one should ever be offended by a kink." Now that may be the subtext for some people who simply want to cast their side in the most favorable light, but taken at face value, most people's comments seem to agree about standards of behavior. They just suffer the usual cognitive dissonance depending on whether they are on the giving or receiving end the the personal opinion/personal attack.

The first person who says "but their side does it mooooore!" gets to stand in the corner until the next post.
