There's a big difference between saying, "Ew, not my thing" and leaving the post/community/whatever, and saying, "You are an asshole, pure and simple." People aren't mad because you have "reservations"; people are mad because it sounds like you're being a jerk about it.

It depends on the situation you're talking about, OP. If someone makes a fuss over my properly and explicitly labeled fic about X kink, because they have a trauma about it, that doesn't make sense to me and I will say "you didn't have to read the fic, YKINMK," because it was, as I said, properly labeled.
If I mention, in say, a meme or something else, that I have X kink, and the same sort of person raises a fuss, I will again say "well, I'm sorry for your trauma, but YKINMK."

However, if someone were to start going on about how LOOK AT MY X KINK. ISN'T IT GREAT? ISN'T X SO AWESOME?! and someone comes up and says "hey, X triggers me in some way, could you stop talking about it or warn for it?" and then the first person goes "YKINMK, stop shaming me" that's an asshole move.

The thing that gets people's dander up about kink shaming is...well, the shaming part. I shouldn't feel bad over what turns me on, and if I label fics of it properly, I don't see the problem.

The answer is that we can't have nice things. There are plenty of people willing to play by the rules of common decency and sense in regards to their fellow human, but there will always be people on both sides who will cause a stink, and they speak badly for everyone.

I'd say agree to disagree, but with touchy issues like this it's easier said than done.

It's not right to mock people's kinks, and it's not right to mock people who don't like those kinks, especially if there's a personal tragedy involved.

I hate this stupid abbreviation, but it is correct. YKINMKATO. Your Kink Is Not My Kink And That's Okay. But also, My Kink Is Not Your Kink And That's Okay. Which some people don't seem to get. Being disgusted by a kink is not the same thing as being disgusted by the whole person who has that kink.

I think this makes a valid point but... at the same time, most fics have summaries, disclaimers, warnings and a link to arrive at the fic. It isn't as if people have to click on the link, especially if the warning states exactly what is going to happen to the characters. I understand that it's a morality issue but at the same time, people have to take responsibility for their own wanderings. Not to be harsh but, if you don't like it, why do people ignore the warnings and continue to read the fic? Confusing.

it's rude not to leave trigger warnings or go around talking about things that can obviously squick people in inappropriate places, but I rarely see that and much more often see people just complaining about how awful the people who like X are.

I'm so surprised you are getting so much negative feedback here, because I agree with this secret 120%. As long as you're not saying "YOU are horrible for liking this kink", you have every right to say "I find this kink absolutely disgusting". It bothers me when people just assume that someone with a trigger kink has any less experience with the focus of their kink than the person judging them.

Yeah, okay, so MOST people haven't been through MOST of the horrible things they've pondered. And I'm not saying it's common, but it's not unheard of for people who have been raped to have a rape kink. I somehow doubt that none of the people with Nazi uniform fetishes are Jewish. Who's to say someone who was molested as a child can't find pedophilia stories arousing?

I'd never condone the actual acts themselves, and I'm not saying that you can't be disturbed or disgusted by other peoples' turn-ons, and I may be in the minority in that I have no issue with people making flash assumptions about other people, I'm simply saying that I don't think it's fair to judge people based on assumptions.
