Maaaan, why did everybody have to jerk off on my comment? Annoying as crap.

ANYWAY.

I agree with secrets 9 and 14. That is all.

Okay, I'm sorry. I tried to stay out of this... whatever it is when it was in "private" journals, but this is just taking it too far. This was a problem (I use this term loosely because, really, it shouldn't have been one at all) between two people, and it should have stayed that way.

I started a big tl;dr comment, but it seemed pointless, so really, it boils down to, "If you can't be adult enough to get over yourself and forgive somebody for getting their feelings hurt (justly or not in your opinion), then shut up and stop bringing it in public to embarrass me by association."

After all, you wouldn't want to make me look bad, rite =D? *flexes and is hot and stuff*

2. So agreed! When Misa showed up? My flist was silent. When Mikami showed up? Once again, silent. Takada? Very silent.

Matt? "ZOMGZOMG I WAS SO WORRIED THEY WOULDN'T INCLUDE HIM!!" and "WAHH, HIS COLORS ARE ALL WRONG!!"

Sure, he's got a cool character design. His one one scene where he did something for a page or two was pretty neat too. But... That's it. There's nothing else to him, and it boggles the mind that that he has so many fangirls.

[identity profile] thickets.livejournal.com 2007-06-13 07:26 pm (UTC)(link)
As others have said, there's plenty more to him. He is important in moving the plot of the story forward. He's also important in the fact that he is one of the Wammy kids, third in line to succeed L, AND he's the only person Mello has ever seemed to really trust and like. He's a cool character with funny lines, a quirky personality that shines through his very few appearances, who dies a noble and tragic death. How his popularity can bemuse somebody eludes me personally.

And I'm sorry about your friendslist. Maybe you should get some new friends. Because there were plenty of comments about Misa's and Mikami's first appearances (I mean, in terms of the latter, the "SAKUJO" jokes went on for weeks).

I'm going to jump RIGHT OUT of the loop here and go OMG 11. Yay for first secret from this fandom (y/n?).

Komachi is cute. I like all the characters in that series. In my opinion, they're more interesting (and colorful!) than Nagisa and Honoka, and... quite frankly, the Splash Star designs sucked, so uh... yeah, I'm liking Y!PC5. (Not that I don't like the others, I do, but I like this one a lot more than the rest of the fandom seems to.)

6) Yes. I personally like old and new stuff with equal love.
13) I am a woman, who likes men, and I love moe bishoujo stuff. And personally, Usagi (not from a bishoujo series), Konata, Rin, Mai (again, not a bishoujo series) and Louise are all interesting characters (and probably those three other girls I didn't recognize are too), so you shouldn't judge a girl by her looks.
16) Haruhi anime, English dub, and fans are awesome. *poke*
19) YOU ARE GREAT.

15. Having a tablet or producing digital art doesn't make you a better artist. Unfortunately, digital art generally 'looks' better online. Now, I've seen some amazing art done by friends of mine who use Copics as well as watercolours. Also ... art style aside you have to produce something people want. I think that's the crucial area as far as art is concerned. I've seen beautiful pieces completely overlooked because it wasn't something in demand by the masses. I've always drawn for myself and drawn what I want when I want it -- I did manage to garner a good deal of fans over the years, but since I've more or less abandoned what fandom gave that to me, I've noticed the only people who stick around -- regardless of the fact that my art is better these days -- are the ones who actually appreciated the art from an artistic standpoint.

If you can produce amazing traditional art I'm usually impressed. I know the techniques digital artists use and while digital is an artform in itself, I know how it's done and it just doesn't seem that impressive -- the final piece is of course but the technique not so much.

[identity profile] chakuura.livejournal.com 2007-06-11 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
2. Because despite being a minor character, he plays an incredibly important role in the series, and without him, Near would be dead. Plus he looks cool. >_>

[identity profile] stakeh.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 12:17 am (UTC)(link)
2. WHERE'S THE MIKAMI LOVE?

But also, I agree with what everyone else has been saying. Sure, he was minor, but he definitely helped out Near in the end. And without him, Mello would be bored as all hell, right? He needs someone to bitch at.

Matt certainly isn't bad looking, but I think that's been brought to light well enough already. ;3

I'm not much for arguing over "character importance" or "character bashing" or whatever, but it's not that big of a deal. I treat all characters as equally as possible, and despite the Misa bashing (that exists, I'm pretty sure), I love her just as much. Even I can admit Takada isn't a complete waste.

And hey, if he can place third to L and basically helps Near succeed in the end, who cares if he's minor or major? Without a lot of background story to go by, you can improvise all you want, and that's definitely not bad in any way. Unless you do a crappy job of it. XD

[identity profile] keikain.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 12:27 am (UTC)(link)
10. I can't say whether or not I agree, because that's something most of you know, but dragging this shit out in public? Is very much not cool. Keep it on your personal journal, chat, or PM. Way to make the rest of us look bad worse.

2. Because he's cool? I dunno, I like him.

14. It seems to me that loli fans tend to be more vocal than shouta fans, although it might just be because a lot of anime bloggers (that I've seen) are pervy college-age men.

16. ...Whoa. I'm not sure who the bulk of the secret is addressed to, but... What did Bandai ever do to you?

[identity profile] icemilk.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 01:35 am (UTC)(link)
The wank is strong with this batch!!

5. I agree, but I also reserve the right to bitch about what I find to be a shitty adaptation. :( I hate Advent Children and all of the FFVII spinoffs, but I have no interest in stomping all over the fans' fun. When I critique I try to be fair. Also, I can understand how, say, HP fans get irritated with the movie characterizations which are so wildly different from the books. It's definitely a lot easier if you just take it all as separate canon, though.

19. FANDOM DOES MAKE YOU A PEDO MURDERER. There is a strong and significant correlation between amount of underage pornfic on someone's hard drive and the likelihood that they will rape a child.

...but actually I'm so sick of this argument by now I just want it to die in a fire and never hear about it again. T_T WHY CAN'T WE JUST HAVE SHORT ATTENTION SPANS and forget about stuff every five seconds? Please?

(Anonymous) 2007-06-12 01:40 am (UTC)(link)
2. Completely agreed. Yeah, the character design's kinda cool, he had nifty gadgets and hung out with Mello, but he did absolutely nothing.

And by the way, people: there is absolutely no canon indicating that Matt was "third" in line for L's title. Near and Mello are definitely first/second/first in line, and it's been stated as such, but not Matt. He showed up, did his thing and DIED. Please don't make things up for minor characters.

(Anonymous) 2007-06-12 02:11 am (UTC)(link)
this is the poster of #2, but i should probably point out that although it's true it's never stated in canon, the author did say in an interview that matt was third in line to be l. people aren't making that up.

5. THANK YOU. THANK YOU SO MUCH. I'm so tired of people bitching at me for enjoying the FFVII Compilation- treat it like a side-story or the anime equivalent to the game as manga? Really. It's not hard.

9. JoJo's! :D

13. AMEN.

14. Same here.

15. Don't ever be ashamed of working in traditional media. Digital may look better online, but traditional has so much more 'emotion' to it. Can't speak of your quality because I've never seen your art, but never let your choice of medium stop you.

18. I finally stopped after spending about $80 for a rare doujin anthology. I love my doujinshi, but 80 bucks? Ow.

I'm getting seriously sick and fucking tired of people crying about RPs. If you don't like it, then stay the fuck away from it. You can bitch about it privately if you have to, but other than that and you need to just close your damn mouth.

Here's a fandom secret for you: it's stupid shit like this that makes me not consider myself a part of fandoms.

[identity profile] ren-wren.livejournal.com 2007-06-12 04:50 am (UTC)(link)
This disgusts me. I do not understand why anyone would feel the need to say such things, least of all in this venue. I also think that it is rather cowardly to do so under the cover of anonymity. Given that she isn't even a part of the RP anymore, can people not just leave her alone? This is low.

I'm not going to comment anymore after this because I don't think it warrants more attention, but I just wanted to say that I think she is a very good person, and I support her.

(LOL, 'tis Paris!)

Concerning #12, I partially agree with you, particularly as regards modern anime. All of this computer-drawn stuff just doesn't sit well with me. It looked a lot more distinctive -- to me, at least -- when it was hand-drawn, especially back in the 1980s. Of course, there are a lot of things that were more awesome back then.

13. The US is just as bad about this. Really, I would love to see more non-pretty women. Not even ugly, per se. Just, say, some female representation, the big, tough, scarred, unpretty type, in the Zaraki Kenpachi or Volgin mode.

19. So... uh. Does this mean I'm not allowed to make fun of HARDCORE FANS!!!!! anymore? Because they want to make love to a cartoon character in the astral plane? Or does whine =/= ridicule? HELP ME FOR I DO NOT UNDERSTAND

Lame ending, too. Maybe you should go back to 4chan and steal more jokes. Use a kitty macro next time, please and thank you.

17. Hahahaha I KNOW ME TOO. I totally understand.

15. Stick with traditional media; basics first, yo. I only like tablets for the pchat factor (n-not that I have experience, oh my too shy!). Personally, I think working on something with your hands builds more discipline.

12. I wish my style wasn't so anime-fied :/ Realism can convey so much more emotion.

5. Yes, I understand how it would be annoying...but I can't help thinking of a situation where I love the manga, don't think the anime is nearly as good. What if someone saw the anime version, and decided to hate the series because of that? (ahah, paranoid, not?)...of course, not like it should be any loss to me, unless I hear them dissing the series (or even then), but it doesn't feel very nice either. AT LEAST I think it's good, when recommending the series, to point out which version I'm recommending, right?
8.*guilt STAB* note to self, this could be you, shut up more. >:(
