Are there people that seriously do that? Wtf.

As in people that call her that. That's awful.

Seriously, what the hell? I don't see how wanting to have her father present in her life makes her spoiled or a brat. Besides, she's supposed to be ten (even though in my headcanon she's really like 12-14 because I have never seen a nine/ten-year-old that looks like that) so even if she did come across as whiny I'd kind of get it. But.. wow, no. That is definitely unwarranted.

Do people really say that about her? That's so awful! I love Kotetsu, but I still think Kaede is perfectly justified in her feelings and adore her too.

This. She's only 9 (maybe 10 after the timeskip) and she doesn't know about Kotetsu's job.
She's not acting selfish, she's acting like a normal child. Kids are like that. Hell I was a lot brattier at her age.

Jeez. If there are people who actually do that, they have issues.

Shit, that's harsh - she's ten years old for crying out loud. But I'll admit that while I completely understand what Kaede must be feeling and why she acts the way she does, it still grated on me because it hurt Kotetsu and I just...hate that. Usually I can handle it when characters I really like are angsty, but with him I'm just all, "I can't handle this I can't I'M IN A GLASS CASE OF EMOTION!!1"

But still, those people need to chill the fuck out about Kaede.

Okay, I can understand how much this fandom loves Kotetsu and stuff, and it's perfectly.

However, I am getting tired of this anti anti-Kotetsu sentiment.
First Barnaby, then Karina, and now Kaede, who's next? Antonio? Muramasa? Tomoe?!? IDEK.

I have been where Kaede has been more times than I can count.

I think I would punch anyone who called her a "selfish bitch" for that.

Aw, it bums me out that people feel that way about her :(

When I was growing up, I usually only got to see my father once or twice a year (my parents are divorced and he was in the military so he was either stationed in a different state or deployed to a different country most of the time), so I can really sympathize with her character in some aspects.

This. Lets not forget that ten months ago there was a major terrorist attack against Sternbild. Even if Kaede doesn't know that Kotetsu is Wild Tiger (and I think she does because I don't like thinking Kaede is that dumb), it would be scary for her to have her father to continue living in the city, especially since she already has issues and fears of being left alone.

Aw, I've mostly seen tons of love for Kaede and was relieved it might actually be a fandoms that doesn't needlessly get harsh on the kid characters. Damn.
She has every reason to be upset. I mean, considering that she doesn't even know what Kotetsu does for a living...

I pretty much can't stand character bashing in general in T&B because there aren't any terrible characters, but hating on Kaede is just too low. Also, the one thing that keeps me from thinking of Wild Tiger as 100% perfectly good guy is that it kinda feels like he abandoned his daughter a little bit. I know he had his reasons and I have considered them - being a single parent who has to leave at any time of day and perform a potentially life-threatening job isn't an ideal situation, especially since he wants to keep Kaede in the dark about his super hero identity - but if anything I find it worse that he can't really tell her why they can't live together.

She is a little kid who has no idea what her father's job is. Even if she did, at that age I wouldn't have really understood why he had to put other people before me.

(Also, who calls a 9 year old a bitch? Seriously.)

That's pretty terrible to hate on Kaede. We aren't meant to believe that it's a good thing that Kotetsu is away from his daughter -- even he doesn't think that. He's trying to quit a job he really loves for her sake.

I'm honestly curious as to where you've seen the Kaede hate. It wouldn't surprise me that it actually is out there, because fans are batshit insane like that. But most people seem to be other positive or at least neutral toward her.

/a/ probably. I've seen a few bitchfights over whether she's a good character and nasty names do get thrown at her. Fortunately the general consensus is still that she's pretty justified in her angry attitude, and the bickering derails into making fun of QUALITY shots or discussing again whether Barnaby is a robot.

I can't imagine why anyone would hate on Kaede. :\

Their situation makes me a little sad, because on one hand I think that knowing her father is a Hero might make things easier on her in some ways; knowing what he's doing, that he's doing good, ~~that he's Barnaby's partner,~~ etc. It kinda makes me sad that she might think he's just living and working in the city for no good reason.

On the other hand, knowing he's a Hero might be more stressful on her in terms of worrying about his safety, and potentially having to watch his face get kicked in on television.

I dunno, man. The situation sucks for both of them, but Kaede can't be blamed for being upset that she doesn't have her dad. She's just a kid.

Agreed, OP. The fandom honestly tires me out with its trying to target characters to "blame" for the fact that Kotetsu is having a hard time with life. Curiously, nobody ever seems to harp on the sponsors, Apollon Media, or Hero TV for encouraging a system where you're old iron if you hit 40 or whatever. No, clearly it's Kaede's fault, or Bunny's fault, or whoever else has a prominent face on the show (iirc people bash Karina, too).

Sometimes, a system just sucks, and sometimes, a character just has to deal with the hand life has dealt him without it being anyone's "fault" per se. The immaturity of some people is staggering.

my god there are people who feel that? Kaede's a little girl, ffs, last time I checked it's perfectly normal for a 10-yo girl for her remaining parent (remember that her mum PASSED AWAY?) to be present in her life JFC

I love Kotetsu a lot (hell, who doesn't?) and my heart breaks for him :( but I am not happy with some part of this fandom who will attack any character who upsets their poor fangirly hearts for him, it seems quite twisted.

For fuck's sake she's a ten-year-old girl who doesn't know what her father's real job does. Leave her alone.
