fictional kids = fiction pedophilia. The fact that pedophilia is being requested EVEN in fiction is sick as fuck.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-06 12:30 am (UTC)(link)
The fact that you're taking it upon yourself to determine what is and isn't okay to read about is sick.

[identity profile] tw-31988.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 12:32 am (UTC)(link)
me? no bb. there are social agreements about what's right and what's wrong. don't try to justify your sick fetish.

[identity profile] fairhearing.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 12:43 am (UTC)(link)
there are social agreements about what's right and what's wrong.

Um...

(Anonymous) 2011-08-06 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
Like it's not okay to have sexual intercourse with children. It psychologically fucks with a kid in the head and has severe physical repercussions. How could you think otherwise? I know there is ~suspension of disbelief when reading or watching something but is there suspension of common decency too? I really hope not.

[identity profile] fairhearing.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
oh jesus christ.

yes, it's wrong to have sex with children. It's a crime and reprehensible... when it actually happens.

In fiction, it's an idea: power differentials, extreme taboo

It's wrong to have sex with animals. They can't consent. In fiction, it's bestiality kink: humiliation, degradation, huge size and power differentials.

It's wrong to rape people.

It's wrong to keep sexual slaves.

It's wrong to have D/s universes where submissives can be caught and collared, it's wrong to have incestuous relationships, it's wrong to force infantilization, wrong to douse people with sex pollen, wrong to do ANY NUMBER OF FUCKING THINGS, many of which personally squick the fuck out of me. Yes, child rape is certainly on that list.

YKINMK doesn't end when it's something you find REALLY awful, even reprehensible. There's no "all fictional kinks are okay except ______, which makes you sick." I honestly can't believe most of the people in this thread.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-06 01:15 am (UTC)(link)
+1 to all of this. The number of people saying "I'm usually the first person to say YKINMK, but this is not okay!!" is just kind of stupid, to be honest. Why is any other kink acceptable? Why draw the line here? Why is any other kink that involves something that would be horrible, disgusting, reprehensible, illegal IRL okay, but this one is "OMG, you're a pedophile!!!"?

(Anonymous) 2011-08-06 01:20 am (UTC)(link)
This, this, so much this.

It seems like most people assume that a person who reads chan/underage fic must also want that to happen to children in real life or something, which is just not true.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-06 01:28 am (UTC)(link)
Seriously. We go through this every time there is wank on this topic, but it blows my mind how people are able to excuse rape, incest, kidnapping, etc as "well of course people who write/read noncon fic don't want to rape someone/be raped in real life!" but then seem to believe that someone who writes/reads about underage must, of course, by a child molester IRL.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-06 01:48 am (UTC)(link)
+1. You can still believe in YKINMK and be disgusted with those prompts (I don't see why there should be conflict here). But I'm baffled by the number of people who are judging the prompters as closeted pedophiles despite not knowing a thing about them. I guess this makes me a closeted rapist and I shouldn't be allowed to post any rape prompts ever. (And unrelatedly I'm also surprised by the people who think kink memes are all about sexual gratification. The kink memes I've seen are more like general prompt parties with a sexual (not even a sexy) focus.)

Feel free to side-eye the tastes of your fellow kink memers, but saying it's unacceptable and slapping a pedophile label on them? What?

[identity profile] tazthelemon.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 05:37 am (UTC)(link)
Good point on kink memes not necessarily being 'sexy.' I've been on a lot of kink memes where it's not so much a porn hub as a 'things that are too explicit for the gen requests' meme.

"social agreements"

what does that even mean

[identity profile] punishermax.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I'm going to have to assume he's talking about the idea of certain crimes being socially unacceptable as well as unlawful. Like, rape, murder, child sexual abuse.

Thank you. That was an interesting read.

I always lol when people say thanks for wiki links. I mean, wiki's right there all the time.

[identity profile] mskye.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 09:30 am (UTC)(link)
Well, although I knew that Wikipedia existed, it's not like I knew what "Shadow (psychology)" was before I saw the link. So... enjoy your laughter?

(Anonymous) 2011-08-06 11:19 pm (UTC)(link)
Sodomy is technically against the law in many states too. But I guess you're not going to go around judging people who like to read, write, and prompt slash, are you?

(Anonymous) 2011-08-06 01:08 am (UTC)(link)
Yes. You said it right there yourself. Fictional. As in, not real. Thank you for pointing that out for us all.

i think the people reading/writing the fics about the minors are all too busy doing that to be getting in the chatrooms to set themselves up to be featured on "to catch a predator." or... they just don't have any interest in real children.

sexual fantasies about children, and incidental arousal, are symptoms of pedophilia, that is true. however, they lose the "symptom" status if there's no actual sexual attraction to real children a person encounters. ergo, fantasy without attraction to the real life counterpart is not pedophilia, or any other sexual depravity you want to label people who have certain kinks with.

tl;dr fantasy (still) =/= reality.

i think maybe you're taking work outside of the office? being a psychologist, you do work with people with genuine mental conditions such as pedophilia, and more power to you because i agree that it - when it is what i find to be genuine based on my original comment - is a condition that needs some help. this may also be a personal block a lot of people may have, having a hard time understanding how something fictitious can be arousing where as the real thing could be repulsive? just from what i've been seeing in all the sub-threads.

i think maybe... most people don't find fictional children attractive, nor do they find real children attractive, so it becomes hard to understand how someone else could find a fake child attractive but not a real one? they see the black and white and not the grey area here, so the two subjects mingle? i'm... not sure if i'm making any sense with my train of thought, so i'm sorry if i'm not coming off clear on this.

i'm sorry, but i don't quite understand what you mean about fantasy being a real part of our lives? do you mean that people fantasize so much that it's beginning to seep into people's realities? like, fantasizing too much would inspire someone to actually act on those fantasies? and oh, i'm sorry, i didn't mean to imply you weren't entitled to your feelings on the subject! the comment about being aroused by a fantasy would mean being a pedophile, that was my main concern with your original comment, otherwise i understand why it would squick people out.

[identity profile] captain-loki.livejournal.com 2011-08-06 04:13 pm (UTC)(link)
Being aroused by a fantasy is, imo, inherently different, than being aroused by the real thing.

I can't speak for all cases, obviously, but I think some people at least who read scenarios of an adult character being coerced, or a younger child being coerced, are not putting themselves in the fantasy as the person 'doing' but the victim. Like I said, not necessarily, I am sure there are readers who place themselves in the position of the dominant party.

I mean, I know I've gotten off on rape!fic before, however, I also know that I can't watch a graphic rape scene in a movie because it's more powerfully *real* than words on a page and a fantasy in my head.

I also have been known to read/write/enjoy pederastic scenarios in fiction, and recently had the experience of finding out someone in my real life who I admired and respected was arrested for soliciting sex from a teenage girl over the internet. While on a fantasy level I enjoy the first, I still feel sickened by the second.

tl;dr, but basically imo there are certainly people that will read fiction because they DO like the concept/idea/act IRL, however to say that everyone who enjoys the fantasy also will enjoy the reality is grossly inaccurate.

I get really tired of seeing people justify their opinions by saying "I'm a psychologist" as if that's the end-all, be-all word on whatever SJ issue of the day there may be.

"I'm never judgmental at all." Weird, because that's exactly what it sounds like.

If you're really a psychologist I worry about your preemptive judgement of someone without knowing their background and your personal bias that a fantasy kink is a real life problem before you ever speak to a patient.

I have a great interest in psychology myself, but I can see why a lot of people dislike therapists. Who would want to go somewhere where they already feel judged and labeled? It's your job to be impartial and help, yes, but not by assuming there's something wrong with a person because of some random fictional fantasy they have.

I like rape kink, but I'm not a rapist. I am still appalled by anyone who would do that horrific thing to an actual human being. And while the examples above may be slightly extreme I would never go "Oh, those pedophiles!" Because it is fiction.

And fantasy is not necessarily reality.

Also, are you a psychoanalyst? Because then I could see where your comment came from a little easier. Even still, I clearly disagree with you.
