I agree that some characters deserved a "better" death, but I can't say that those scenes in the books were much better.

The only reason I think they didn't include it is because they never had Percy go through his heel phase and then get his redemption through that scene... which doesn't make it any better, because Lordy knows I put my book down and cried.

Fred was one of the most prominent characters in the series?

One of the most prominent characters of the series? Really?

I would have loved for Fred's death scene to have been more in tune with the book, and I certainly would have loved a bigger to-do in the Great Hall...but I kind of feel like maybe you weren't paying enough attention if you got nothing out of what was there (and in fact almost missed it entirely).

[identity profile] mysticheaven.livejournal.com 2011-08-13 08:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Yep, couldn't agree more with this. Though I didn't think it was done that well in the book (especially the lack of focus on George's reaction - what?!), it was handled even worse in the film :-(

it's sadly realistic of how death during a war is. it hurts, it's horrible, and you don't always have the time to grieve properly

Since they didn't actually show Fred's death I'm content to pretend that he got killed taking a bullet for George, which is really how he should have died.

That was my biggest problem with the movie. They cared so much about cool special effects and getting things shown that the emotional impact for damn near everything was nonexistent. That said, Fred's death was pretty fucked up in the book (OH HAI Percy is part of the family again yay! BAM FRED'S DEAD). And Lupin and Tonks had the same death as Fred in the movie (oh look, they're dead).

[identity profile] shah-of-blah.livejournal.com 2011-08-13 08:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Funny, I said the same thing about his death in the book.

Are [sarcasm] tags even necessary?

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/___flight_risk/ 2011-08-13 09:03 pm (UTC)(link)
Who cares? Dobby got a heartfelt send-off, and that's all that matters.

[identity profile] twistedbones.livejournal.com 2011-08-13 09:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Now you know how Lupin fans feel since the book, because even there we just got a "oh he's dead aw how sad :( oh well gonna go kill voldemort now" scene.

[identity profile] resounding-echo.livejournal.com 2011-08-13 09:17 pm (UTC)(link)
I think every death aside Snape's was treated as such, book and film.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-13 09:21 pm (UTC)(link)
lavender's death scene was awesome though. i loved that little pan to show that it's not just some random death but someone we know

There's an official statement somewhere that they didn't include it because it was too upsetting to pre-screened audience members. I heard it's in the extended cut, though.

TBH between the book and the movie, I won't be happy until "George Weasley and the Lifetime of Dealing with the Death of his Twin" hits the damn bookstore shelves.

Very true. I still cried, unsurprisingly, but really, he should've gotten a proper slow-mo, Sad Piano death scene.

[identity profile] allstarzs.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 12:23 am (UTC)(link)
So this. I was expecting more. It still broke my heart though. Same goes for Remus and Tonks.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-14 12:35 am (UTC)(link)
It didn't feel like his death got all that much more attention in the books. I was actually really happy with how Lupin and Tonks' deaths were portrayed in the movie, as opposed to the book which basically just said that Harry saw them lying there or something. Just two more bodies to the count :(

Oh my god you have NO idea. It sounds dumb, but considering his death was the only one that made me bawl for days, I wanted to feel someone in the theater. When I didn't, I got SO pissed off. I'm still not totally over it.

(Anonymous) 2011-08-14 02:57 am (UTC)(link)
Fuck you, that's what Lupin and Tonks got in the god-damned books. Fucking bullshit.

[identity profile] lemon-m.livejournal.com 2011-08-14 04:35 am (UTC)(link)
I will be bitching about this for a few more weeks, at least. I was fully expecting to cry like a baby come that scene--- the actual death scene didn't happen and when they showed his body it was so quick that I was like, "Oh n-- what, that's it?"
