Ehm, it's putting it simply - but generally, I don't think that's such a horrid way of describing it. Yes, I understand that they'd already would be a girl as far as their perception of themselves is concerned - but describing it as "a boy who wants to be a girl" does make the situation pretty clear to everyone.

You're assuming the OP is wanting to write about a trans girl, but the secret doesn't say that. It's possible for a boy to want to be a girl, knowing he isn't one. I think that's what the OP meant, and is afraid of reactions like yours that think the character is supposed to be trans.

It's also possible that some trans girls think of themselves as "boys who want to be girls" at some point because that's the closest way they can describe it concretely for the time being. And that's OK.

Newsflash, we still live in a world where not everyone knows exactly how to phrase trans issues. Get your big boy/girl/etc panties untwisted, pull up your bootstraps, and fucking deal with the phrasing. This secret is clearly not derogatory, and you shitting yourself over the phrasing solves nothing. Next time you have an issue with how someone phrased something, try calmly stating your opinion instead of mashing your cheeto-stained fingers against the keyboard in a blind rage.

I think this sounds really interesting. I could see the character maybe being physically female when 'he' transforms and needing to grapple with issues regarding that; maybe 'he's' more open to the idea of his soul and his body being unconnected... that could be a super fic and I would read it so hard.

That's probably not as bad as the plot idea I've seen tossed around in some areas - that Kyubey might come to a pre-transition trans boy and pester him until he gave in and made the wish to be biologically male.

Problematic wording aside, this is honestly one of the first things I thought of when I heard about the concept for this series. I think you should try it... If you're really concerned about offending people, maybe try and see if you can find someone trans who would be willing to beta it?

I think it would be an interesting idea, as long as you were respectful and did your research. Of course, no matter how careful you are, there will always be someone who will be offended... and there's nothing wrong with that. Such is the way of the world. It shouldn't deter you from trying.

A lot of people are bagging on this secret because of the phrasing, and I agree it could have been better, but I think the concept itself has possibility, especially because...

...Kyubey exclusively targets girls for contracts in canon because of the energy he believes they possess. If he were to go after a "boy" it would likely be because he thought the individual had "female" energy, and therefore maybe wasn't a boy at all.

Alternately, Kyubey seems to like granting wishes that will some way backfire on the wisher and cause despair. A boy that wasn't actually a trans who made a wish to change himself for whatever reason might regret it later on, which could play into Kyubey's paws.

Gonna go un-anon for this one.

First off, sorry about the wording. I really didn't mean to offend. I probably should've said 'wants to be a girl physically'.

Second, the above wank is an example of why I'd never get around to doing this (that and I feel like I'm a shitty writer). I've got the whole thing planned out in my head, but I can't bring myself to do anything with it knowing that I might ruin someone's day with it. I also thought about doing it the other way around (two stories in one), like Hourou Musuko. But that leads to the same problem.

I think that's enough from me right now.
