Everyone's taste is different, but I loved it because it was interesting and had more depth than most books nowadays. Yes, Pullman probably stuck in too much religious hate at times, but they're still amazing books. And since when are people obsessed with HDM? I seriously have trouble finding fans of it.

Interactive loins is my phrase of the day now...

Is... is that bird from Beyblades?

[identity profile] fadeinthewash.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
To be fair, 3/4 of the male characters you named are now dead and gone, and we didn't even get POV chapters for 3 of them, either.

[identity profile] cold-river-blue.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:15 am (UTC)(link)
What?? That's like, what kind of idiot spends money on food they've never tried before, or a game they've never played before, or a trip to somewhere they've never been before? I like to have books, so I buy them. If I don't like them, I can give them away, but if I do, why go through the bother of tracking down free copies, reading them, and then buying them in case you want to re-read them in a year or two?

Basically, it appears when they discover what it is they want to do with their lives.

[identity profile] cold-river-blue.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
It's not a novelization, it's the book series the TV show was based on. They were originally published in the 90s, I think.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
It happens when they discover their unique talent, their "calling" I guess; the thing they want to spend the rest of their life doing.

It's considered a sign of growth/maturity in the MLP world. So the comparison is apt, I think; both in the growing up sense, and in the sense that characters without them are "blank slates" with lots of potential.

[identity profile] taithe.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
It's okay, OP! I go there for T&B discussions and random pixiv art but otherwise avoid it too.

[identity profile] cold-river-blue.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:20 am (UTC)(link)
Is "scaly" an actual word people use now?

[identity profile] marumae.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:22 am (UTC)(link)
Same, only I got a hundred something pages in and gave up. I tried so hard. I feel the same way about Tam Lin. So boring. Perhaps we're missing something?

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 03:24 am (UTC)(link)
Doesn't she have some money now (that she didn't beg off people in fandom)? She looks like a bag lady.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 03:26 am (UTC)(link)
This makes me so glad that I work in a job that involves a lot of exercise. Because if I was sitting at home all day on my laptop I know I'd be that big too. And that's my nightmare. Literally. I have nightmares about being fat. It's my biggest fear.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
Wasn't my favorite series by her. Personally I dug the dark psychics one. But that could be nostalgia talking. I don't dare read them again and realize they actually suck.

[identity profile] starphotographs.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:27 am (UTC)(link)
I think it's one of those games that can be easy to beat but really hard and tedious to do really well. All those goddamn melons and whatnot. D:

[identity profile] dreamsofspike.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:30 am (UTC)(link)
awwwww, i loved those books!!

i know they're cheesy, honestly, but they were my favorites in my early teens :P I got into the show out of nostalgia for the books it was based on. I'd buy the boxed set, even if i never read it again, just cause of how much it meant to me when i was a kid :P

[identity profile] starphotographs.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:31 am (UTC)(link)
OMG! Someone mentioned this game! I've seen some people complaining about it, but for the most part, they seem to ignore it. D:

I quite like it. The scenery is very detailed and creative, and it has a sort of interesting gameplay style. And it's a really good example of that exploratory feeling that the 2D Nintendo games all share.

[livejournal.com profile] cartoonbigbang

A "big bang" style writing + art challenge where you have about 4-6 months to write 10,000+ words of fic. This one is dedicated to Western animation fandoms. :)

[identity profile] copper-dimes.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:32 am (UTC)(link)
You know, it never crossed my mind that it was a book series first, though honestly, that makes more sense than a box set of novelizations. All I knew about this series was that it had vampires in it and that I have a bag from Comic-con for it that I still need to sell.

(Anonymous) 2011-09-13 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly couldn't care less about them pretending they're real wizards, what makes the rest of the fandom so intollerable for me is that so many of them are either a) sheep, collectively jerking off a few select BNF, one in particular, b) elitists, c) utter idiots or d) a combination of the above.

[identity profile] cold-river-blue.livejournal.com 2011-09-13 03:35 am (UTC)(link)
There is definitely some anon trolling that just goes beyond the pale. If I used lj for anything other than commenting on wanky coms, I'd be worried about being followed around and harassed, too.

I don't have a livejournal. Haven't felt a need to get one either. There's no incentive, except to avoid captcha.

ayrt

That's what I don't get though. There are hundreds, thousands, of people small and petty enough to rip off other, better talented authors and claim their words as their own. But I don't see major fandom wanks about them that pop up with the level of hate that CC generates. They flare up, they're reported, that shit gets dealt with and the offending stories removed, and the internet moves the fuck on.

So why can't people move on in this case? Why does it keep getting called up again and again?

She doesn't deserve the comments like "man the harpoons!" or to have people who now try to ruin her career because of what happened so many years ago. I don't think anyone should be dragged through the mud for a mistake they made almost a decade ago. If she were still active in fandom, I'd say she's fair game but since she's dropped out of fandom completely years back, I wish people would just move past it already. There's plenty of other things to wank.

And I think it's just creepy in general to have shit from 10 years ago brought back up again and again and again no matter who it was or what they did. Unless they were out murdering puppies or whatever it's not worth it.

clearly unpopular opinion

I fucking hated that movie.
