While fandom seemed to dislike her in the first season, she's seemed pretty well-liked from what I've seen since then.

Dexter fandom is pretty sexist though - the amount of vitriol Rita and LaGuerta have received... Seriously, I checked the "Maria LaGuerta" tag on tumblr a few days ago, and ninety percent of it was about how much people hated her and/or wanted her to die. I love my career-climber :(

Deb is awesome. I don't know why anyone would hate her. There's some good pro Deb links here I'm not actively in the fandom so haven't witnessed the hate. Her and Dexter are definitely my fave characters.

Same here when it comes to female characters I identify with. There are male characters who get a lot of hate but usually the ones that remind me of me are well-liked, but when a woman reminds me of me half the fandom hates her guts.

i don't personally relate to her but she's always seemed very real to me. i might not think she's conventionally pretty or easy to watch, but i do think that jennifer carpenter does a great job at making her a flawed, realistic character. haters gon hate op, don't feel like people are attacking you when they just can't get over the fact that she boned michael c hall and they never will
