(frozen comment) secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:13 am (UTC)(link)
i think it's the sheer lack of self-awareness that gets me with fat cosplayers.

like. do you really take a look in the mirror and say "hey, i look SUPER hot right now" with your pooch belly hanging out over your bootie shorts? SERIOUSLY?

hell i know my body isn't amazing enough to cosplay half of the awesome costumes i wish i could, but guess what? there are also a TON of other great ones i can do and not look like a sausage stuffed in a too-small casing. maybe skip the video game character who wears a bra top and fishnets next time k?

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
mte. how can they be unaware of how they look?! you always hear "fat people know they're fat" but uh these apparently don't.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

[identity profile] baka-deshi.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 03:39 am (UTC)(link)
Shockingly enough, they might know they are fat...and be brave enough not to care. If everyone waited til they were a socially acceptable size/appearance to do what they loved, they would be very miserable people in the meantime.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:22 am (UTC)(link)
Surprise!

Fat people a) know they're fat and b) can be totally beautiful. I know you probably think that's fucking impossible, but guess what? It's possible! Actually, quite likely.

Secondly, guess what else? Not everyone feels the exact same about beauty and hotness as you do! Not everyone thinks fat people look gross or should never expose their skin or should be disallowed from wearing belly shirts or something. Just because you think it's ugly doesn't mean everyone else does, or has to. Just because you don't think someone is hot doesn't mean they don't, or someone else doesn't, or that they shouldn't be allowed to feel that way.

You're a major-league douchebag, and just for that I'm gonna find the tightest, hottest clothes I own to wear tomorrow-- and I, a fat chick whom you would likely find absolutely repulsive due to that fact, am going to fucking rock it.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
nah, you won't rock it. you just won't realize how icky you look, which is very sad. just be aware that the catcalls are probably not meant the way you want to take them.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:28 am (UTC)(link)
lmao. I love how you say this knowing full fucking well you know nothing about me or what I look like except that I'm a fat woman.

For the record? I don't give a flying fuck what anybody thinks of the way I look except my own damn self and my girlfriend. Shockingly, her telling me I'm fucking gorgeous carries a whole lot more weight than some pathetic, insecure anon telling me I'm "icky."

Why don't you work on your own self-esteem, anon? Maybe then you won't feel like you have to pick on and insult other people's appearance in order to feel better about yourself. <3

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
I just want you to know you fucking rock and all the trolls here are obviously very unhappy with their lives. So don't let any of the bullshit they're saying get to you.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:36 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, anon! I am definitely not letting these arsehole, insecure trolls get under my skin. The only person that matters thinks I'm gorgeous, and that matters to me a hell of a lot more than what some anons who have never met me might think or say. :)

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:24 am (UTC)(link)
incorrect. You're just going to gross people out. But hey, since you apparently love glorifying the fact that you'll die younger than most, you might as well get as much mileage as you can out of it.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:30 am (UTC)(link)
lawl. Anon you're hilarious.

But seriously, like I told the other anon, go get yourself some help and some self-esteem. Maybe if you loved yourself more, you wouldn't feel the need to hate and pick on other people's appearances to make yourself feel better! Wouldn't that be nice?

I mean, it must take a lot of effort to be hateful and grossed out every single time you see a fat person.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
only the ones who try to pretend it's something to be proud of. You are few and far between, so it's really not that much of a bother.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Everyone's body is something to be proud of. That you can't see that is a sign of your own insecurity, body issues and disgustingness as a human being.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:37 am (UTC)(link)
Anon

Go see a therapist about your body-image issues, seriously.

Taking out your own self-hatred and disgust on other people is not a good way of coping with how much you can't stand the sight of your own body.

I don't even mean this in a snarky way. I'm speaking from experience.

IKR

It is beyond obvious anon has a lot of insecurity issues with regard to their body

A shame really. They might think becoming thin will make people actually want to be around them, but no, what makes everyone dislike them is their shitty attitude.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:38 am (UTC)(link)
Oh yeah, seriously.

Exactly. Their thinness won't matter when they're driving everyone away with their hatred and their ignorance.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:27 am (UTC)(link)
welp, have fun appealing to creepy weirdos who fetishize fatness and weight gain then. because yes i realize some people find fatties hot but it's a SERIOUSLY small subset of society, and like i said, it's basically a fetish. do you not find that bizarre?

lol ok enjoy yourself. i'll be over here, wearing clothes that fit and are appropriate for my body type and looking classy.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:29 am (UTC)(link)
lol same anon

you couldn't be more obvious if you tried

(ayrt) LOL actually no. because we both type with no caps? great detective skills.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 02:34 am (UTC)(link)
Well, I won't be catering to those people or anyone else, but I'll be sure to check in and let you know if my girlfriend thinks I'm hot. :)

And I don't find the fetishization of fat women "bizarre," because our sociocultural bias against fat women in particular (as opposed to fat men) reinforces the view that fat women cannot be sexually attractive, and thus those who would otherwise be attracted to fat women are shamed, implicitly and explicitly, for that attraction in many cases even before they would realize they had it and directed to more normatively valued attraction, i.e. thin women.

I wonder when I implied that I would not be wearing clothes that fit me. Clothing can be tight without being ill-fittingly so, anon.

But please be more obviously insecure about your body, it amuses me.

(frozen comment) Re: secondhand embarrassment like whoa

(Anonymous) 2011-12-06 02:43 am (UTC)(link)
well if she's your girlfriend i assume she does think you're hot, or else there would be a problem.

tight fitting clothes + excess fat is not the greatest combination. and i'm glad to see that while you called out someone upthread for making assumptions about you, you freely make them about me. i feel like i have a very good understanding of what my body is and how it looks. it's not perfect, but it's getting there, and until then i'm dressing it how it should be dressed instead of going the sausage-casing route.

ps, also, not a troll. i'm just completely uncensoring myself which is something i don't do very often. fact: people DO have unpopular opinions.

Preach! Please preach and let the masses come to your sermons. Most of the replies in this thread are really ticking me off, so replies like yours are just the hallelujah I need. I'm not big, so I can't really imagine what it's like to put up with this type of immaturity and hurtfulness from other people; but I think you're awesome for the stance you're taking and I wish to apply this wisdom to my life. +1, rock on.

[identity profile] curseangel.livejournal.com 2011-12-06 03:00 am (UTC)(link)
Oh wow, thank you! :) The responses here are just, wow. I'm not taking it personally, but it does miff me a little. I'm just looking at it as getting my need to argue on the internet out before the two-week vacation I've got that starts tomorrow :P I'm really glad I could help even one person with my words, though, and thank you again for your comment!

1) Believe it or not, there exist those who find fat sexy - so to that crowd, yes, pooch bellies hanging out is hot.

2) When you are told so constantly that you look horrible no matter how 'appropriate' you try to be, a lot of people get to where they don't give a shit if they are horrifying idjits like you by showing off their gut. The thinking becomes "I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't, so I might as well do it and enjoy myself". Between you and me, that takes a lot more bravery than complaining about how "inappropriate" someone's gut is.

The thinking becomes "I'm damned if I do, damned if I don't, so I might as well do it and enjoy myself".

Considering the original OP posted a cosplay where a fat girl is COMPLETELY COVERED UP I think this is very true.

Overweight people can just not win no matter what they do, so people can just stop trying to police others on what they wear and what they do.

That was actually why I felt the need to comment ;) I thought the costume choices were tasteful and well done, but apparently that is just as gross as wearing a costume that is falling off.

(And protip: some of us are just as skeeved out by skinny underage kids running around in barely-there bikinis...ffs, I don't want to get arrested if you wind up in the background of pics I'm taking O.o)
