Maybe because not every country buys America's communism = evil?

What exactly does the debate of whether communism is bad or not have to do with anything in this thread?

The sickle and the hammer are used by all countries' communist parties, it is not exclusive to the USSR.

What USSR?

I think the bigger difference is that while leaders of the former USSR committed similar atrocities as the Nazis against their own people after WWII, under the symbols of the hammer and sickle, you don't have people using that same hammer and sickle to deny those atrocities even happened, or worse yet, to say that such genocide was right, and someone needs to finish the job.

There may not be an "official" Nazi party anymore, but there is a terrifyingly large number of people who subscribe to the ideology that the swastika represents, and use the symbol (though on a much smaller scale) to intimidate and oppress others to this very day. That is why the swastika is outlawed.

The same leaders committed genocide using the Black Eagle and Teutonic Cross (WWI too as the German Empire) as a pivotal symbols. The German government still uses the Black Eagle and the Teutonic Cross.

Good points. I have yet to find a modern communist who denies Stalin's crimes or say they were right. Maybe I've been lucky /has tons of communist friends.

When a Russia cosplayer uses the sickle and hammer, that means they're talking about the USSR. And yeah sorry, but the USSR is not good.

agree, it can look nice in theory, but in practice it's one of worst systems ever. It's not a suprise that its symbols are banned in so many countries that were forced to be in its sphere of influence.
Soviets murdered some members of my family and sent women and children to work camp in Kazakhstan. Later they sent my dad to jail only becouse he was a member of democratic underground, nobody convince me that this totalitarian regime wasn't evil.

Absolutely agree, and it's not like it was such a long time ago and no one remembers these things. I know enough people who were exiled to Siberia and they'll get an official/unofficial apology when pigs fly and hell freezes over.

I'm just hoping the anon is not a misguided American trying to teach their fellow Americans tolerance.

The hammer and sickle and other USSR simbols are banned in Hungary and Lithuania. And the foreign ministers of Lithuania, Latvia, Bulgaria, Hungary, Romania and the Czech Republic called for an EU-wide ban on communist symbols in 2010.

Is it really so hard to enlighten yourself and use Google?

I agree about Baltics Nazi sentiments aren't a good thing, but when you look at their history, you wont be suprised that for them Soviet Union was the greatest evil.

Wow this is a really gross prejudice against the Baltic nations. Good job. Because clearly everyone who lives in those countries agrees with that. Also the majority of those aren't Baltics. They're Balkans. Only Lithuania is a Baltic nation of the ones listed. Do you even have half a clue what you're talking about?

Latvia is also listed, the only balkan country there is Bulgaria.

From what I know it's also banned here, in Poland.
