So basically it's a 'no' to pedos and bullies and 'yes' to incest? Ugh, no. Just stop.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 12:57 am (UTC)(link)
I was all with the secret maker all until the end, and I just went, incest! Really? You are not okay with him having sex with two people he at least on some level wants to do it with and you want him to get it on with his straight brother?

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 01:23 am (UTC)(link)
MTE. And I sometimes read and enjoy incest fic (though not this pairing), and I would never justify it as anything other than a kink.

Kash isn't a pedo, anyway. The age of consent in Illinois is 17 and Ian is 16 so it's technically illegal, but "pedophilia" means sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children, not having sex with a post-pubescent teenager. The fact that he's cheating on his wife is a lot ickier than the fact that Ian's 16.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
Oh I have been seen to enjoy the odd Sherlock/Mycroft fic so no judging from my side!

It just blows my mind that the age of consent is higher than 16, I just don't get it... (I guess different countries different perspectives) But Kash will never be a pedo, a rat bastard yes, but not a pedo...

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
NGL, I enjoy Sherlock/Mycroft. It's so deliciously twisted.

Illinois doesn't officially have a Romeo and Juliet clause, but it de facto has one (it's a different crime if you're more than 5 years older than the minor, and it's really not enforced if you're within five years of age). I'm most comfortable with R&J laws; let 15 year olds have sex with people near their age, but keep the 50 year olds away from them. I don't trust anyone past their early 20s who wants to have sex with a minor, and the power dynamic is so skewed. In the case of Kash there's a "reason" for it in the storyline, but still... more not-okay than okay, and he should really know better.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 01:55 am (UTC)(link)
Indeed, trow John and/or Lestrade into the mix and you get all the twistedness one will ever need... (and again I revealed waay to much about myself...)

I'll just assume I understand you correctly (In Norway it is you turn 16 you are legal and as both parties are okay with it the law don't care about the age difference) So what you are saying is that it is legal for a 14 and 19 year old to have sex? But not for a 17 and 22 year old?

Yeah I just don't like Kash, but I am quite sure Ian went into the relationship with his own free will...

Understanding each other =/= relationship. I like to think I'm a pretty open-minded person too, but that doesn't mean I'd want to do my sister.

[identity profile] valenciapilgrim.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 05:05 am (UTC)(link)
THIS. I mean, a LOT of people have siblings who understand them, because siblings... generally grow up in very similar circumstances, in the same place, raised by the same people, etc. Under the OP's stated criteria, something like 25% of people in the world should be in incestuous relationships.

"Wow, I've had two whole bad relationships in a row. Yeah, that's right, two! Why fight it anymore? Clearly it's time to just face up to the inevitable and screw my brother!"

PS Like many above, I'm not judging the OP (or anyone) if they want to read some broyea fanfic or what not. I'm just saying that the OP's logic that they would be a great match for each other is quite a stretch.

[identity profile] ericadawn16.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
Actually, if I recall, the original British series did have incest between brothers just not those two.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 01:38 am (UTC)(link)
Really? I can't recall that, not saying it's not true, just do you remember more?

[identity profile] ericadawn16.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 06:58 am (UTC)(link)
Ian starts seeing a boy, Sean, but finds out Sean is his half-brother because Frank is not his father. Sean wants them to continue their sexual relationship anyway but they end up breaking up.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
Ah, now I feel stupid...

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 01:49 am (UTC)(link)
Nope. It did "you can't see my daughter because you're the son I only just discovered I had" fairly recently, and there was the whole Frank/Karen thing, but I'm pretty sure there haven't been any brotherly incest storylines.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:07 am (UTC)(link)
Thank you, that's what I thought, and I usually remember most of the plots of everything I watch and read, so I was just all "did I miss a season?"

[identity profile] ericadawn16.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 07:08 am (UTC)(link)
I'm talking about Ian and his half-brother Sean.

[identity profile] making-excuses.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 11:17 am (UTC)(link)
Oh right!

[identity profile] 1001cranes.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 01:27 am (UTC)(link)
also, anyone else tired of the Mickey is dirty/smelly/rude/gross argument? are we all watching the same show? he's really in good company on at least one of those counts with just about everyone.

[identity profile] to-question.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:15 am (UTC)(link)
I actually like Mickey and think he's kind of adorable. He's like a stray dog that tries to bite you, but follows you home anyway. Give him a bath and a meal and he'll be fine...Like everyone else on the show.

[identity profile] 1001cranes.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:26 am (UTC)(link)
I really like Mickey too! I think the stray dog analogy is pretty apt, hah.

[identity profile] to-question.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 02:20 am (UTC)(link)
Cause, you know, incest...no moral dark-grey area there.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-17 03:44 am (UTC)(link)
what's the fandom for this?

[identity profile] 1001cranes.livejournal.com 2012-01-17 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
Shameless

I suspect Lip has already done his experimentation and knows he likes girls. I also think that even if he were into guys, he wouldn't be into HIS BROTHER. The Gallagher boys are not hothouse flowers raised in an attic or the back seat of an Impala with a load of illegal armaments; their family may not be functional by most people's standards, but it works, largely because Lip and Fiona make it work, and in fact, given the fact that Lip as second-oldest has a quasi-parental role sometimes, no, that just is not happening.

Kash is not a paedophile. Paedophiles like little kids. Kash is opportunistic and has issues out the wazoo, and he shouldn't be screwing his teenage employee, but it's not like this is nonconsensual. Mickey...is clearly over the bullying thing. It's all pretty messy and messed up, but if you're freaking out because there's something messed up on Shameless, get over onto the Disney Channel already :) Shameless has been advertising itself since the first trailers showed up in 09 as a story about fucked-up people doing fucked-up things; sometimes you gotta read labels.

(Anonymous) 2012-01-18 06:07 am (UTC)(link)
you completely missed the point and just saw an opportunity to be rude & pretentious.
