...Seriously, if I didn't read Twilight for myself in book format I would have assumed it was a bad Vampire AU fic. It is kinda hard to rip it off, because it is so chock full of cliches of Vampire Romance that it makes my head hurt. Except for the sparkling. The sparkling is at least new, even if it is one of the things that makes it impossible for the Meyer vampires to be actual vampires.
No lie. There are only two universal constants in vampire-dom worldwide, and Twilight is lacking both. Fascinating!

But I'm interested in the constants as well, just because I can't think of them myself, haha.

But anyway, replied about the constraints below if interested. :)

Anyway, the two constants I figured out from when I was researching for my own vampire book in-the-works and read a huge dictionary of vampires, were these:
1: Must have some form of symbiotic connection to the night. Whether this manifests in their true nature being revealed by night, strength gained from the moon (such as in "The Vampyre"), or their primary means of hunting, etc.
2: The option of being a parasitic feeder. Which means that though they can kill their prey right off the bat, they have the ability to slowly feed off of it over time. Whether this is feeding off blood, energy, or etc is irrelevant.
Twilight vampires hunt mostly on cloudy days and we do not see them having any kind of relationship with the Night, or even darkness. In fact, their sparkliness puts them into the day category quite firmly. It is also impossible for them to feed off their prey without killing them or turning them naturally.
Now, depending on the narrative and how many other 'vampire-y traits' you have going you can usually get away with violating one of these. But both is pushing it, especially when you do some crazy things with the narrative.
Seriously though, if Meyer had made them pagan gods? That would have been kinda awesome. (Many pagan gods were said to have shone, many required at times blood sacrifices, etc.) Then again if she couldn't research vampires well enough... yeah, probably a good thing she didn't touch on that.

And yesssss. I really don't mind changing up the constraints, and I really dislike the sunlight = death trope (Except in works like Near Dark. Exploding vampire western? ...AWESOME), but the whole disco-ball thing... Especially since it only works in direct natural light? What?

So, I mean, Twipires aren't fae per se... But far that were turned and it's a long story, lol. |D
