Yeah, I'm pretty sure just about nobody takes those people seriously. Most of the time when secrets like that comes up the thread is full of some agreement but mostly "lol pearl clutching cry moar."
Don't worry so much. Just go enjoy your rape fic. Rape fantasy is really, really common, and it doesn't hurt anybody. The dynamics of rape fantasy are actually diametrically opposed to real rape - it's all about the comfort and desires of - and control by - the "victim," rather than by an attacker.

Beg your pardon for my gender assumptions, but the way I see it is that every woman on this earth (and certain populations of men and other gendered folk) has to live with the threat of rape, fear of rape, normalization and sexualization of rape that is our rape culture. Kinkifying it in your head is only one more way of processing the whole mess, so you've got as much right to that kink as any survivor. Also people who police others' fantasies are assholes.

I have a (m/m) rape kink too. I don't flaunt it because I have survivors on my flist and I'm not the type to be loud about my kinks anyway, but you know what? I don't feel guilty about it, and it doesn't make me a bad person. People can tell me I am until they're blue in the face, tell me they hope I get raped, whatever they want, but it's never going to make my kink go away and it's never going to shame me for having it.

I don't have a rape kink. I do, however, have a serious hurt-comfort kink. And I have yet to have anyone suggest that my taste for fantasies involving various forms of torture of the characters I like means that I want to be terribly injured myself, or want to nonconsensually imprison and torture real live people. I fail to understand why people consistently understand the distinction between fantasy and reality for some kinks and not others.

As everyone else has stated a million times, just because you fantasize about something does not mean you actually want it to happen. Rape fic squicks the hell out of me, but I wouldn't begrudge other people the chance to read and write it, and I certainly don't judge them for it either.

Although it's not anywhere near a perfect comparison, I'll give you an example of why that commenter's mentality makes no sense to me. When I was a child, I was abused (physically, not sexually.) It was horrible, I still have some issues because of it and am made very uncomfortable by certain mentions of abuse in fic, and yet people who are aroused by fic depicting violence don't perturb me in the least as long as it remains strictly a fantasy. YKINMK, etc. etc.

Obviously rape is not okay. It is a terrible thing, and something that should never be seriously portrayed in a positive light. But rape fantasies are such a common kink, and so far I haven't met a single person with that kink who would actually rape another human being.

The commenter has a right, of course, to feel that rape kink is "disgusting." The fact that they have been raped before is terrible, and I wish they had never gone through that. But you have a right to read or write what you want.

As long as you understand the difference between fantasy and reality, are polite if somebody declines filling a request because the kink makes them uncomfortable, and use appropriate warnings when you post fic, you're probably fine.

The only time I've ever commented on a rape fic in any kind of judgmental way was when I once read a rape fic with no warning, and the person who wrote it had no idea that they'd written a rape fic even though the main character was unconscious an unable to give consent during the sex portrayed in the story.

If someone understands what rape is, gives the proper warnings and understands that in actuality rape is abhorrent, then I would not judge them for their kinks. I can even understand certain knee-jerk reactions like the commenter in the secret, but I don't agree. The issue of rape fantasy is far more complex.

I think the YKINMK thing is sometimes misunderstood. There are kinks that disgust me, and I would probably avoid people who I know have them. The thing is, I don't *have* to find those kinks okay. They don't have to think mine are okay. There's nothing I can do to stop them from having their kinks, or that they can do to stop me from having mine.

In other words, don't stress out about it. People can disapprove of your kink, but it doesn't have to affect your life.

Nope. Sorry, but I'll just never accept that it's wrong to have any kind of fantasy. Even if it's the most hideously awful thing ever in real life, I'll just never be OK with the idea of judging and condemning someone else's thoughts. To employ an overused phrase, that's a slippery slope. Shit could get Orwellian pretty fast. If those thoughts spill over into action, that's different. But other than that, no.

(And...I hate to be this person, but when people say stuff like that I often find that they mean women in particular shouldn't have rape fantasies, and we kinda spent several centuries telling women they shouldn't enjoy sex or have certain desires and I just...yeah, problematic all over the gotdamn place.)

By the logic of that comment, enjoying slasher movies is Not Okay, because someone somewhere might have once been killed in a similar way. People do die in horrific ways, more often than we care to think about, but that hasn't stopped slasher films from being made. I personally have no taste for them, but the population at large sure seems to think they're okay.

Fantasy is fantasy. As long as you understand the line between fantasy and reality you're fine.

Thats kinkshaming and that is wrong. Rape kinks are perfectly fine for people who have AND have not been raped as long as you are respectful and do not shove your kinks in other peoples faces. Know that theres a distinct line between fiction and reality, and keep it in the fictional and you'll be fine. What you do in privacy to get off isn't anyone else's business, and if you write fics/draw art and properly label it as nonconsentual so that those who get triggered by it can avoid it, you are hurting nobody.

Don't feel sick for your kinks if you are not hurting anyone and keeping it private. You are normal and not a sick fuck.
