7. Toki is adorable. I guess that is kind of his 'thing', haha, being brutal and cute at the same time, but SO CUTE.

10. I take such issue with movie Voldemort for this very reason. Fiennes's Voldemort just looks like a human with no nose. Voldemort is supposed to not seem human any more.

11. If this is acceptable as a 'secret', I want personal attacks allowed back, because those are the most entertaining of all the secrets.

13. GOD TL;DR. I just tried to start reading that three separate times. BE SUCCINCT NEXT TIME PLZ.

16. IAWTS so hard.

not in the fandom but...

if he's got two arms and two legs, he will be vaguely human-like and thus look a little like a human.

the missing nose lends toward his alienness which is not a bad thing.

Honestly, the anti-OC thing ticks me off, because it's okay for someone to write OOC H/D BDSM, and if they were sporked the sporkers would be blasted all around. But if you don't like sporking OCs, you are a silly, hyper sensitive Suehor.

(anon behind 24)

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 05:20 am (UTC)(link)
Really.

Interesting thing about "sporking"... it started off with "using a spork to rip my eyes out", right? So, when people talk about "sporking" OCs, they're basically talking about tearing their eyes out with sporks. What the hell, people! Some perspective, please!

1. I feel exactly the same way you do. ♥ Nothing makes me more happy than fandom, sad as that is.

I could have sworn I'd seen 6 before.

13. O god you make me want to go to the used bookstore and buy loads and loads of Animorphs right this second.

*hugs* Major sympathy here. :( I had someone I used to RP with years and years ago pull similar shit on me, and it sucked hard. I wish I could give you some good advice, but all I can really think of is that it's not your fault that person had issues, and it's not your fault you weren't prepared to deal with them, either.

Re: 21

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 03:19 am (UTC)(link)
thank you. guess it's hard to be prepared for that, even with people you know, but a stranger... i just had nothing to say.

[identity profile] call-me-ishmael.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
1 - I used to get that all the time. Eventually, the people who knew me clued in. Strangers still don't understand it.

2 - I don't know the series, but I've known plenty that'd be better without so much blatant fanservice.

7 - .................

21 - Although I never had that happen in fandom, I once had random people I barely know come to me for about the same reason. I tried helping and it was killer on my emotional state. I hope they find somebody else to talk to. If not, don't tear yourself up about it. It's their choice and you're not their parent, or even their friend. Tell them to seek counseling and leave it at that if need be. It may sound callous, but there's only so much you can do.
On a totally unrelated note, I really want the font for "Dear Lost Soul," but it seems weird to ask after something so serious. But I just did anyway. >_>

23 - I get that too. I want to scream at all the violinists with borked up hand positions, or when the bow/finger movements don't even TRY to match.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 03:16 am (UTC)(link)
21 thanks. i know i shouldn't feel so very guilty, i did what i could at the time. i'm just trying to understand the why of it right now

1 - I feel exactly the same way.

24 - I think those are stupid too.
We freak out over sues and stuff within my friends, but...it's always just joking. People who make communities out of it are just lame.

(anon behind 24)

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 06:23 am (UTC)(link)
Freaking out over stuff in private can be fun, yeah. I do that with my friends, too!

Doing it public is okay, too, but...

It's so much easier for that to build up into something unpleasant and not really very fun. I think that's what's going on with those MS communities - it built up into something rather unpleasant a long while back and it's pretty off-putting if you don't already have a serious chip on your shoulder about Mary Sues.

[identity profile] biscayne.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 03:41 am (UTC)(link)
2: OMG I so agree. That is definitely my secret.

[identity profile] aikochan.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
This probably is a little too long, but since every word of it is 100% true for me as well, I didn't care.

I wish people didn't underestimate this series so much. (And that they'd stop judging it by the ghostwritten crap.)

1. Yeah, the internet is my screening process for awesome people. I prefer it to socialize in general.

19. Me too. -_-

24. There will always be people that hate butt-fucking and there'll always be people who hate perfect women made just to sex up a character. You're in the same pit as the rest of us.

(anon behind 24)

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 05:27 am (UTC)(link)
Well, yes.

However, it is incredibly satisfying to be able to share my thoughts on yaoi. Uh, as it were. :)

(p.s. don't I hate yaoi or sues. I just find the behavior annoying. Just trying to be clear)

24: I don't like Mary Sues. I don't see slash as an antidote to them (hello, yenta!Sues and miracle mpreg baybeez and wonderful adopted little girls and Stu-like semes and ukes), but I do think you're comparing apples and oranges here. Good slash is about the characters and making them work in a relationship with each other. It's about the characters and the universe, just in a different type of relationship.

Crappy slash, yes, is similar to Mary Sues since it is often based solely on the writer's fantasy, but in general, Mary Sues are a writer's fantasy about the perfect OC taking over the entire story and bending it to her will, and yes, they can be rather annoying to read for those of us who enjoy reading about the characters. Not all OCs are Mary Sues, just a specific subset of them, and honestly, that specific subset *is* boring and unoriginal.

Also, not all of us who dislike Sues are flaming the authors, or even active on any sporking commmunities. (I'm at fanficrants and GAFF, though I rarely spork a fic for being a Sue alone unless the Sue is really truly laughable for some reason, I usually spork it for being a Sue with horrible spelling, OOC characters, a plot that should have exploded, etcetera). A

I don't see the mindset of "we can only call crap on something if it's for the lulz." Crapfic is crapfic, and what does it matter to you or anyone else if someone rants about how hard it is to find goodfic in their fandom rather than trolling their fandom with horribly-written fic? If it's all meaningless, why does one reaction matter so much more than another as to make you think less of someone?

One last thing: trolls suck. I'm sorry, but they do. If you're going to snark on people for wasting their time or not finding things funny enough for you, maybe you should consider ignoring these people. That would be a lot cooler and a lot more apathetic than actively trolling them and looking down on them. I'm sure there's some places funny enough for you. ^_^

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 06:11 am (UTC)(link)
a) I didn't compare them, and I'm sure I get where you got that from? All fair points, though.

b) Author-bashing is part of it, but some people lose their sense of perspective and it stops being funny. Mary sues are not some horrible war crime to be utterly outraged about! It's just fanfiction! Srsly, people.

c) Yes, thank you for reminding me that trolls suck. I had forgotten.

13) ANIMORPHS YAY.
16) It makes me happy! What I don't like is when people complain about them.
21) Ugh, guilt stalkers.

[identity profile] xreddestinyx.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 06:37 am (UTC)(link)
1. Yes! I like the internet because you pretty much know what you're getting from people. You very rarely meet someone who you thought was nice, but turns out to be a jerk, but that happens ALL THE FREAKING TIME in the "real world." And you can find people with common interests to talk to, which is GODSEND to me, because I can't stand random small talk, and I don't have much in common with most people. Plus, I'm a total social failure who freezes up when people talk to me and can never speak before I'm spoken to, so having some form of text-based communication compensates for that. Heck, I met my best (and only, really) "real-life" friend online. Interacting in society is seriously overrated, and if I had the chance to never do it again, I'd take it.

13. That's kind of how I feel about YuYu Hakusho. I don't really know how, but something about that series really changed me. It was my first anime, so it did open a door to a whole world of people and experiences. But aside from that, I know there was something about it that changed ME, and made me the person that I am.

[identity profile] aviy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 08:40 am (UTC)(link)
13- I feel like digging out my animorphs books now =\ I never finished the series, and I understand it finally ended, and that makes me sad.

NUMBER 25 MAKES ME THE HAPPIEST PERSON EVER. XD

13. Totally agree with you. My friends laughed at me for liking Animorphs but I still love them to this day :)

1. Oh how I loves me some fandom, but I would love to meet them IRL~ :D

3. People who make 'ugly' characters pretty boys and make them OOC make me want to strangle... something. D: But then I remember that some people do it just for fun and giggles and well... I guess all of us are guilty of it at some point or want to do that. XD

... I still don't get BISHIFYING Homestar Runner chars tho. D: Srsly, what? Normal looking = k. But bishiecakes? OKAY NO.

25. Phoenix Wright love ♥

One day I will write a letter to K.A. Applegate and tell her how much I love her. Once they invent enough words for "love."

17. Aww, adorable secret. (You know that the kid.. forgot his name.. was a teenager in the original book? It's a good thing Miyazaki made him into a kid. Now no one's shipping Howl with anyone but Sophie, which is great, since they belong to each other <3)
