4 - This inevitably happens in large groups, and I agree, it does suck. I think part of being a good friend is tolerating that they might like different things. But that goes for them, too. I wish I had good advice, but I don't, because I often find myself in the same situation.

6 - I only slightly agree with this one. Some people might not realize that they're going through a period where they're uninterested in sex. On the other hand, there are real asexuals, and it's pretty stupid to go around claiming there aren't. It's just like when people go around becoming 'fandom lesbians' - that doesn't mean real lesbians don't exist, in the fandom community or in general!

And you know what? There can be a lot of factors for someone to not be dating, and that can be everything from personal preference to a busy lifestyle to a lack of viable people to date in their community. I really don't understand why you're calling dateless people pathetic when some truly pathetic people are out there dating. Having a Significant Other doesn't define a person, thanks.

I don't think either secret was saying that lesbians or asexuals don't exist. (I got the impression the lesbian secret was posted by a lesbian actually and who knows maybe this one was posted by an asexual.)

I think what the secrets were saying isn't that it's bad to be a lesbian or an asexual just that people who claim to be one when they aren't are irritating. personally i don't think that attitude is fair because sometimes people really are genuinely confused, but at the same time it's not the same as saying "lesbians and asexuals suck and none exist".

28. Is hilarious. Good to see someone else's mind warped into unrecognizable shapes by fandom. I've associated the abbreviation HP with Hit Points ever since I started playing Pokemon. Eight years ago.

[identity profile] avianthropy.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:46 pm (UTC)(link)
14. ♥ Although I will admit she is useless in the beginning, it makes perfect sense when you look at her character flaws, and those are part of what make her interesting.

24. I agree that it's hypocritical, but I can see where the attitude comes from. Outside female-dominated fandoms, men are still privileged, which means that should they decide they want to carry their love of objectification over into real life, there's a lot more they can get away -- and potentially cause harm -- with.

28. ... Y-yeah, if I'd just seen that ad on its own, I would've just thought "Awesome, a shoutout to gamers!" without horsepower occurring to me at all.

[identity profile] samuraiter.livejournal.com 2007-07-08 12:42 pm (UTC)(link)

Those of us who are white, upper-class, Anglo-Saxon, and Protestant, yes. The rest of us feel disenfranchised like you would not believe. :-(

6. Well, thanks for the nice opinion...>:( And no, I don't call myself asexual, (I'm pathetic in other ways, quite probably) but it's just pretty damn MEAN to not respect someone because of something like that (whether it's for using an expression that annoys you, or for other reasons. Sorry for ranting, guess that hit a sore spot.
also people, must you hate others for using words with different meanings in fandom, it's making me paranoid :/.

14. It seems to me that there AREN'T that many lead girls (expecially in shounen), who aren't just there to be saved by the hero...and considering Sakura's pretty much just that, she manages to be pretty strong. Well, at least after the timeskip, I was so glad to see she'd become less weepy and useless (even if she still has to be weaker than the males, of course :( *sigh*)
Btw, I'm a huge Sasuke/Naruto fan, for two reasons: 1. I like yaoi, especially when the canon is so generous with stuff that can be seen as such (through the yaoi-goggles, of course)
2. There isn't enough pairing fic (or gen with an interesting plot, for that matter), with the whole of team seven...which would be my first and dearest OTP for Naruto. I'm a strange person.

24. That attitude sounds indeed very unfair! D: (thought I don't know enough about porn industry to say anything about it. :/ Prefer my porn written or drawn anyway.)

11. Do you feel special enough now? Or do we need to give you a cookie too?

PS: We'll still laugh at you, and now I'll laugh triple because a) you think that proves something, and b) I scored higher than you anyway. Trying to prove your brilliance? YOU'RE DOING IT WRONG.

11 ~ WIN. i agree. totally.

[identity profile] ex-parle.livejournal.com 2007-07-08 02:32 am (UTC)(link)
I AGREE. THEY'RE EITHER FUCKING SOMETHING OR SOMEONE OR THEY'RE NOT. WHY THE HELL DOES IT MATTER; I DON'T KNOW, I DON'T THINK IT SHOULD.

...is there such thing as a phobia of asexuals or bisexuals? I mean there's homophobia... HM.

6: Word! I don't have anything against real asexuals, but I hate people who pretend to be asexual because they think it's "cool" or "in" or who say they're asexual when they don't have an S.O. but then suddenly become straight/bi/whatever when they get one (and become asexual again when relationship ends.)

24: I think maybe people do it in revenge for the fact that in real life, girls get objectified way more than boys? I do understand what your saying and do think the fandom double-standard sucks but at the same time I can understand why girls who get objectified in real life all the time might want a safe haven to come and objectify men for once.

girls get objectified way more than boys?

?_? I know that this happens outside the U.S., but ... did I miss the boat? For about as long as I've been alive, in the wake of the feminist movement, women have, as far I've seen, more than turned the tables in most places.

28. You are so not the only one. :3

[identity profile] quaedam.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
There's a lot of repressed rage out there today. ^^

11. *facepalm*

18. Ishida doesn't get enough love? Are we in the same fandom? :3 (Seriously, though--there's definitely Aizen/Ishida (several stories I know of) and Ishida/almost every other character out there--probably just nothing recent. I get the feeling the whole fandom's cooled off just a bit lately, on account of the characters having spent so much time on Namek in Hueco Mundo without much idea where the plot's actually *going*. . .)

24. Tits and ass are not in themselves sexist, certainly. If a female character is reduced to nothing *but* tits and ass, then *that* is sexist. I'm really not big on the idea of 'objectifying' *anyone*--surely it's possible to appreciate a beautiful man or woman just as it's possible to appreciate any other quality or talent that any person may have in unusual abundance or go to some trouble to cultivate, without depriving that person of his or her essential humanity.

18.

Mostly, I'm here because I saw "Aizen/Ishida" XD Any links?

I know I've seen like...Chad/Ishida, Urahara/Ishida, Renji/Ishida and even Zaraki/Ishida but that's all I've really come across outside of the usual Ichigo/Ishida and Ishida/Orihime.

8. Korean cinema is so much better than Japanese cinema, in my opinion at least. I wish fangirls of all things Japanese would see that Korean stuff is awesome, too.

3. ;-; WHY IS THIS SO TRUE?!?! BECAUSE IT MAKES ME SO SAD THAT IT IS. Dammit fandom.

22. Screw the pairing. I am sad I never got my sequel.

12. First, I thought the background text was repeating "Eminem" and I was all serious. Then, I realized that it actually said "mine" repeatedly and I lol'd.

Why do so many people in fandom identify as 'bisexual'?

I think you're just trying to make "whore" into a sexual orientation.

....

Oh wait. No I don't.

Does it really matter to you want they don't do in their bedroom? Seriously. Grow up, get over it, and if you think it's a trend? It'll be gone by next week. No worries, m'dear. Just pretend you didn't see it.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 11:38 pm (UTC)(link)
11. Those scores prove that you have the textbook smarts; you're quite the yaoi fangirl with brains. This secret, however, also shows that you are one of the immature ones.

17. I wish Matt had more screentime and lines in the anime and manga. :(

28. I think of that when I see the HP printer logo, too.

3. I don't really understand Zemyx. I'd see Zexion getting really annoyed with Demyx and leaving him to play with his water clones.

9. Oh god I know. Their icons are the SEX.

12. Exact opposite here. I wish more people liked the character I do so that we could fangirl. :(

15. What is that?

26. That looks sexy. ;]

28. ME TOO. HP means hit points. It confuses me horribly when people use it to mean horsepower. XD

From the writing desk of a bi female (I know, there's only tons in fandom):

Double standards suck and hypocrites are always assholes. Hentai of most any genre and any pairing is my friend, but when it gets right down to it, there's been sick shit about girls for a LOT longer than guys. You're allowed to get off on whatever you want, but I'm just as allowed to tell you it's sick--not cuz I'm a chick and therefore a spechul snowflake when it comes to pr0n but because I'm someone whoooo thinks it's sick.

Yeah, what you do watch/read/write/draw might gross some chick out, but most guys would freak if they found Play Girl in their bunny stash.

So don't stfu, just realize that the sexes get off on different things.

However, it's dangerous for girls when fanboys carry their objectification into real life.

11) Every segment of fandom has its fair share of lunatic retards. Yaoi, given the subject matter and (IMO) particularly rabid and loud fangirls, gets ragged on more. Although the SAT's are a pretty bad indicator of overall intelligence, your grades at least prove that you are capable of having coherent thoughts and can form complete, grammatical sentences without interjecting garbled bits of Japanese or excessive tildes and carets. So, good on you. :P

Also, grats on your SAT's! Hope you get into the school of your choice. :)

28) Lol, yes. Between that and Britain's legislature all being Magic Points (MP's), yeah... >_>

6. I wish people could give me a clear, unbiased idea of what a "true" a/hetero/homo/bi/pansexual person is, because I'm ready to give up figuring out my own sexuality.

24. I agree with this to a point. I don't have a problem with what people do and don't find disgusting--that's something that, like the subjects themselves, that's all a matter of opinion. I agree though that the people who whine about women being "objectified" while drooling over men who are sexualized in the same way really need to shut the fuck up.

24. ...You know, it makes me sound like a hypocrite, but I disagree.

I just think they're objectified in different ways.

We get so much more panty-shots and shower scenes in manga/anime than manporn. Even taking yaoi into account - a lot of the ukes are just chicks without boobies and extra parts.

I see what you're saying about the double-standard of men watching porn vs. women watching porn. I'm even guilty of this, too. I don't know; maybe I see women as less... threatening? I'm not attracted to them, and they're watching stuff with men. The sexual object in question isn't a woman (like myself).

Maybe it's more of a thing of wanting to distance myself from feeling sexualized in general?

Sorry kids, I'm rambling here. Also watching the Simpsons at the same time isn't really helping keeping my thoughts on track.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-07-08 12:36 am (UTC)(link)
24. I understand that hypocrisy = bad, but you need to understand that hypocrisy is a basic tenet of humanity, and as long as people are people they will do what they will.

Beyond that, it cannot be overlooked that yaoi is significantly tamer on average than hentai. Disgusting subgenres like guro (ewww) etc exist almost exclusively for women, while portrayal of men tends to center on fluffyfluffyhappy. I see little problem with hypocritical about it.
