24. Well, the world already objectifies women enough, so why can't we have our shits and giggles in fandom?

[identity profile] yuki-no-hime.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:02 pm (UTC)(link)
3. I don't get this pairing at all, but then again, this goes with most yaoi ships of this fandom...
14. WORD.
20. I love Haruhi, but my OTP of this series is Kyouya/Tamaki, so I know what you mean :(
24. I agree with you, though I'll never understand the supposed beauty of cup H, if you know what I mean (this is coming from a girl who likes girls)
28. Lol, I thought the same.

[identity profile] ex-parle.livejournal.com 2007-07-08 02:23 am (UTC)(link)
I guess in a sense Cup H can be viewed as ... the beauty in obesity? AKA; THERE IS NONE, if you know what I mean.

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_dahne_/ 2007-07-07 10:03 pm (UTC)(link)
6. I've wondered about the high occurance of asexuality in fandom before, considering that outside you almost never even hear of it existing, let alone anyone who identifies that way; is it simply because of the greater permissibility of thinking about and discussing one's sexuality that comes with fandom? But then you lost me. I'm honestly confused. What part of looking at a naked person of any gender, kissing, etc. and going "?" or "meh" instead of "!!!" is pathetic?

7. Say it loud. Say it proud. The original FF7 was a great game.

11. One reason I despise our school systems is for convincing people that test scores have anything whatsoever to do wtih actual intelligence.

14. Hell yes. She started out as fairly annoying, but hell, she was 12. I mean, I have a hard time having much sympathy for anybody who would consider having a boyfriend to be a higher priority than being a badass ninja, but once the, "Hey, maybe there's more to life than mooning after Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder Poster Boy" revelation kicked it, she starts to get awesome. And I'm probably as yaoi-fangirl as you get. People can realize they're not in love with someone without any degree of OngShe'sSoAnnoying! Here's how to do it right. (http://maldoror-gw.livejournal.com/14474.html)

16 and 18. AshBrock (yeah, yeah, I was into that show, shut up), IchigoIshida, AizenIshida....I want to read some now. (Recs?)

20. Eh, Haruhi's cool because she's not a traditional romantic lead. Not being paired with anybody wouldn't bother her much.

28. Sister/brother, you are not alone.

Asexuality in fandom

[identity profile] jukebox-hero.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:38 pm (UTC)(link)
There's been quite a bit of discussion on that. My feelings on it are that as asexuals, we don't have that drive to "hook up" and seek out relationships (by relationships, I mean romantic ones), so that leaves us with a lot of extra time to devote to our hobbies.

1.

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:06 pm (UTC)(link)
That might be a little less creepy than Aubrey?

I ask him weird things like this when I meet him... Though I certainly wouldn't have brought that up with her standing right there, too.

Honestly, back in high school.... I think I did, too.

[identity profile] leadengine.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
4. IAWTC

6. Also AWTC. Just because you can't get a date doesn't mean you're asexual, amirite.

8. ALSO AWTC. I'm attempting to teach my Korean right now; I want to go there. I love it. ♥

11. Holy fuck that is a really good score. Like. REALLY GOOD. I don't get why people feel that way. I always though it was hypocritical; it's okay to squee over the show but not the pairing you like? I know I fangirl when a het couple I like has cute moments, but am only judged for liking yaoi. I'm fucking sick of it.

14. I agree with this comment hardcore. That follows over to how I feel about a LOT of female characters in A LOT of different manga.

24. I hate people who think that way. I don't see the problem with porn in general. Hell I TALK about female porn with my guy friends. S'nothing wrong with I see, and often times it's hot. And I'm female. People need to shut the fuck up; fandom objectifies men more than women any day.

28. ... I lol'd.

Not!Secret: Yes. Yes.

[identity profile] jukebox-hero.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Also AWTC. Just because you can't get a date doesn't mean you're asexual, amirite.

Wrong. Do some reading on asexuality before making stupid remarks.

lawl for #28

11 & 12 = TOUCHE.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 10:12 pm (UTC)(link)
I agree with #11... SO much. It irritates me to NO END when people accuse yaoi fangirls of being "fanbrats with no brains". YES THERE ARE RETARDED FANGIRLS OUT THERE. So? That doesn't mean that EVERYONE WHO LIKES YAOI IS AUTOMATICALLY A MORON TOO. In fact, the person who introduced ME to yaoi in the first place is currently going to a university of HER choice... on a SCHOLARSHIP. So you can shove THAT up your ignorant little asses and see how retarded it makes you feel.

#12... I am guilty of this too (as much as I hate to admit it). It's one of the reasons why me and one of my really, REALLY close friends don't talk as much as we used to. It makes me feel like a horrible, typical fanbrat with jealousy issues, and yet... I STILL WANT TO STAB ANYONE WHO LOVES THE SAME CHARACTER I DO. ;___; Damn you, fandom, for making me like this!

[identity profile] jukebox-hero.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:13 pm (UTC)(link)
#3 - Same here! I actually am kind of disappointed when their relationship progresses to a sexual one. I just like the interaction and friction between them.

#6 - So you're asexual, too? What with "pathetic" being a sexual orientation and all... Moron.

#14 - Seriously. I don't get why people hate Sakura so much. Unless they honest-to-god think they have a shot at hooking up with a fictional animated character.

#28 - Hahahaha, I've thought similar things!

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 10:17 pm (UTC)(link)
27. Michael Jackson scares the crap out of me. But I have issues with your secret. "Micael?" "Paul?" Are you on a first name basis with these two men? (Well, "man" can only be loosely applied to Michael Jackson. I like to think of Obi-Wan Kenobi's famous line from A New Hope: "He's more machine now than man, twisted and evil.") It's always been a pet peeve of mine when people refer to famous people by their first name and their first name only (except in the case of celebrities like Madonna and Bono, who only GO by their first names) just because of their celebrity status.

(Anonymous) 2007-07-07 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
Why shouldn't people refer to them by their first names? They are human (debatable in Michael Jackson's case). Always referring to them by their full names seems to elevate them from the status quo. They're not oh so important. So what if people act a little familiar on the internet? It's not like they'd run up to him in real life and go "Yo Michael! How's it hanging?" It not a big deal. Get over it.

[identity profile] nationalboner.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
24 - Well, it's not like the porn industry is going to stop objectifying women, so I figure it's a good thing that men can be objectified by women, for a change. In an ideal world, no one would be objectified, but we're not living in an ideal world.

[identity profile] savant.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:18 pm (UTC)(link)
6 » I hate when people use the term "asexual" to describe their sexual orientation. Do you honestly not know what it means? Amoebas and protozoa are asexual. Meaning they have no sexual organs and reproduce by budding or fission.

I hate how people fling around a term like that, and how it's all of a sudden become slang to mean you just don't want to have sex. That's all you have to say. "I don't want to have sex." Stop trying to sound "hip" or whatever the hell you're trying to do by using a scientific term so incorrectly you sound like a complete moronic jackass.

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:49 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh, using "asexual" as an opposite to "bisexual." Opposing prefixes and all that. A word can have multiple meanings, you know, and languages change. The word doesn't have to be purely scientific.

Also, often when you simply tell someone you don't want to have sex their immediate reply is "Are you completely insane?" So most just kind of back away from that.

I agree with you totally. I'm exactly like that. Espcially the hating being like that.

Unfortunately, I do it for some fandoms too. ;_;

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:20 pm (UTC)(link)
20. Who the hell is saying that they are superior to anyone for shipping for Tamaki/Haruhi. Because this Tamaki/Haruhi shipper would just laugh at them and think their an idiot. Anyone who claims that shipping het or canon is the only way needs a good sound knock to the head.

25. Whether I agree with this or not, depends on what you mean by "fandom" and "involved". Geekdom is very diverse and I don't know whether being a geek necessarily equals being in fandom.

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:26 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh and to 24. I have no problem with porn in general, my only really moral quandary in regards to any porn (yes even lesbian porn for men, and I am a lesbian) is that I wish that the people who were working inside the industry were treated better and worked in better conditions but that has little to do with the actual purpose of porn itself. In regards to slash and lesbian porn aimed at men, my only caution is that no one should expect real life lesbians or gay men to act as they do in porn.

16. Awwww, I'd enjoy that pairing.

24. You're right. :( That's stupid.

28. LMAO me too. You're certainly not alone.

[identity profile] dagger-calica.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:23 pm (UTC)(link)
28. I thought "Hit Points" as well! This is, though, my second thought was "HorsePower"...it was "Harry Potter". ^^;

[identity profile] repeatvoffender.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:29 pm (UTC)(link)
4. Seriously.

6. ...... Okay, I probably take way more offense to this than I should. There's something about fandom friends that you can sometimes be more open and honest. I don't understand what the big deal is here, anyway. It's not like it's interfering with your life, is it?

If you're going with the whole 'fandom-made lesbianism' than no, I probably agree. People come up with the stupidest reasons to claim things, I swear.

12. Haha, I'm very similar.... A few, intelligent friends - not a problem. Hordes of fangirls, especially that like the character because the character is 'omghot' not-so-much.
I just tend to like characters that few other people are interested in.

17. I RP characters that I can relate to because it's easier to play the ones with similar traits as me. I have gotten a lot of praise in the past for being so amazingly IC, too - and all I'm doing is working from my own feelings.

24. IAWTS. Double-standards suck.

16. djkhfdk BOULDERSHIPPING. XD You know, back when I was obsessed with Pokemon (and beginning to try out yaoi), it was impossible to find anything for that pairing. D: Hopefully things have changed since then, so good luck to you! <3

[identity profile] enfeebledchi.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
24 - I agree with this secret. If you're getting off to objectified men, don't be whining when you find someone that objectifies women. I'm all for people liking what makes them happy, but as soon as they start acting high and mighty over something when they take part in something similar... I lose respect for a lot of fangirls that way.

[identity profile] lightpipe.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:33 pm (UTC)(link)
18. Your crack pairings frighten me, but man. Do I ever agree (with the general sentiment). >: Ishidaaaaa~ ♥

6. I thought bisexual or gay was the trendy thing.

*actually asexual*

Also 24.

[identity profile] crackjaw.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
What if you don't like objectification of either? I prefer my pr0nz natural-like, kthx, when I read it, which isn't often.

4. All my friends are in different fandoms than I am, but I still hang out with them. It's a bit difficult when neither of us are talking about eachother's fandoms, but at the same time it's fun when we try to relate situations in each one.

[identity profile] icemilk.livejournal.com 2007-07-07 10:41 pm (UTC)(link)
11. I get where you're coming from, even if I don't think SAT scores prove anything. I'm sometimes embarrassed to admit when I like slash pairings because I don't want people to assume things about me just because of it.

14. I always want to shake those people and remind them of what they acted like when they were 12 years old. I'm willing to bet most of them weren't stellar paragons of maturity. Sakura is actually very impressive early on, in that she's quick to take Sasuke's first rejection as a chance to improve her behavior. She reflects on how harsh she's been with Naruto and thinks about being nicer to him from now on. She floored me right at the start, since she didn't cry about Sasuke calling her annoying and instead considered the feelings of other people while she was in pain.

24. I dunno. Perspective? In the real world, when a guy looks at porn of a girl, it's not disgusting. He gets a pat on the back. Besides, slash seems much kinder to males than porn industries are to females. At least you can find some really amazing character studies and plots and writing and artwork when it comes to slash, even if it's not typical -- I think I'd be hard pressed to find the same ratio of quality and humanity with mainstream porn.
