I understand when people say that realism takes more skill than a style-heavy sort of art. But when the people who draw Marvel-style start bashing anime, I just die of confusion.

Really, I love anime as a style. I think a lot of learning artists should be encouraged to branch out, and try styles other than anime. I think anime, like any cartoony or heavily stylized style has a tendency to get newer artists stuck in anatomy ruts.

But I'm tired of the stereotype too. I love drawing anime, and although I love drawing other styles too, I don't think it should make me less of an artist if I only drew anime. (As opposed to people who only draw in one other style)

You have a Diamond icon?!

Please, may I borrow it with credit, good sir or madam?

LAWL DANNY PHANTOM FANDOM XD

I'm not in it (though I'm a huge Butch Hsrtman fan), but man I've heard enough horror stories 8D

17. It was so inspiring, wasn't it? *_*
20. SWEET GOD NO. (I might be the only person who genuinely HATES Lidner.)

[identity profile] sevendials.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 08:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I haven't seen the whole series so I'm reserving judgement on Lidner.

BUT I AM COMMENTING ANYWAY FOR YOU HAVE A NEAR ICON. AND THUS I MUST SQUEE.

10. If you care more about fandom and fandom's reaction than the integrity of the books/characters then you are the fanbrat :/

(Anonymous) 2007-07-10 09:19 pm (UTC)(link)
I couldn't care less about fandom. I haven't been in it for years because it pisses me off so much. There are some great people in it, but on a whole, I can't stand it. I just think it's HILARIOUS when people wank about how J.K. has 'ruined' her own books, JUST because their ship got sunk.

4. Word. It's just as valid as any other art style.

10. I'm torn. On the one hand, I kind of want Harry to die... just because. On the other hand, I want the same ending you have, right down to the pairings you have. :\

13. Girls just can't get a break. If they show one bit of emotion and care about people, they're weak. If they don't, they're cold bitches. If they can kick ass, they're Sues. If they can't, they're useless.

It makes me wonder what kind of women fans actually WANT to see, anyway.

20. Gah, all this Death Note stuff is making me really want to read it. That's a really pretty image, too. ♥

19. Amen.

[identity profile] niwakaame.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 08:45 pm (UTC)(link)
14. I love you. I gave Count cain a serious try,and I fucking hate it. Am not even remotely interested in her characters - except Merry, maybe. It started out not too bad, though. And yes, I kind of hated her atmosphere too. It ,yes, really doesn't feel Victorian. AND I've grown to be tired of her characters.
...And I also hate her for the lack of good female characters (well. I liked Babiel from AS.). And because - in Godchild, at least -- both characters of Cain and Riff feel just so shallow. and,er, I'll stop there.

[identity profile] halcyonjazz.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 08:49 pm (UTC)(link)
13. SO MUCH MOTHERFUCKING WORD. It never fails to amaze me how Hinamori is seen to be spindeless when she actually has the biggest balls out of anyone in the series, and is kinda a little crazy for it.

[identity profile] mistressfishie.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
14. I love them both! X) But you're completely right about using it for historical reference.

[identity profile] garefowl.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 08:50 pm (UTC)(link)
6. I think I love you for that analogy.

19. I've never understood why a lot of people make it seem as though you have to leave your fandom interests behind in order to get a "real life". A lot of people have healthy social lives whilst being huge fans of something. Not that this particular secret is saying that exactly, because I do agree with how some people shouldn't take things in fandom as seriously as they do.

[identity profile] pretentioustfu.livejournal.com 2007-07-11 01:29 am (UTC)(link)
19. Word. I don't see how I should have to abandon my yaoi fandom to have a "real life." That just screams heteronormativity. *goes to rant in a later post*

14. It's okay to hate one manga and reccomend another, but it sounded to me like you were bashing manga #1 to build up mnga #2. Which is pretty much instant lose.

19. I agree. Even if you're still into fannish things in your old age, you shouldn't let it take over your life. If you're 60 and worrying more about being flamed for writing slash than how to keep your hip joints in good condition, it's gonna suck to be you.

Also word to everything [livejournal.com profile] ew_younerd said.

21. OUCH. D: Poor fandom.

Actually, my parents are in their late 60s. Health worries and church and how good the old days were is pretty much all they ever talk about. I'd say it sucks to be absorbed in being "old" and constantly conscious of it a lot more than it would suck to still be writing slash at 60. ~_^

14: The day I start basing ANY knowledge of any era just from what I've gotten in manga, it's the day I'll stop writing. Mostly, manga manages to make me curious enough to do research.

What the heck does BNF stand for??

Re: So I've been wanting to ask for the longest time

[identity profile] dropsofgleam.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 09:09 pm (UTC)(link)
BNF: Big Name Fan. Refers to the fans who have sort of fame inside of a fandom for their fanfics, fanarts, fansites, etc.

[identity profile] kimirike.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 09:07 pm (UTC)(link)
If someone is using a Janpanesee shoujo manga for Victorian era England reference than they are stupid. Plain and simple. This manga obviously doesn't try to be accurate it's a work of of SCIENCE FICTION!!!!!

As for the second part of the secret where you advertise Silhouette of a Breeze as better it makes you sound elitist and whiny. Which is pathetic if you ask me. And as for art well that's in the eyes of the beholder. I love the aesthetically pleasing goth feel of Kaori Yuki's works.

Coun Cain is 100% fanservice. And I doubt that the Kaori Yuki tries to make it otherwise. I mean most of it completely unbelievable and it's obvious.

Re: 14

[identity profile] musouka-manga.livejournal.com 2007-07-10 10:01 pm (UTC)(link)
It's "Victorian Romance Emma". And it's an amazingly lovely (and historically accurate for the most part) series, where you can tell the writer loves the era so much that she WANTS to get things as right as possible. The artwork is also beautiful.

I don't think the person that wrote the secret was trying to be elitist, only saying that if you are going to get your perception of the Victorian Era from a Japanese comic book, Emma is the way to go. And I have to agree.

So much Hinamori love! She was the one who first went back to save Shuhei during training when Renji and Izuru ran away! She's so awesome. I wish more of her fans shipped her with Aizen or Kira though. I love her, but man do I hate seeing her paired with Hitsugaya.

20. My love for het never left, but this pairing reaffirmed the fact that it can be just as hot as Yaoi.
