I can't watch her. I'm sorry, I can't. Her face bothers me. I keep on cocking my head and trying to align everything and I get distracted and the disproportions freak me out. It's nothing against her personally. I think she's a decent actress, and despite the face thing she's really pretty. Its just too... distracting. And weird.

The first time I saw her on anything was TVD and every time she'd appear on screen I'd lose focus of everything just to find out how her face worked. I'd just stare and stare until she went offscreen, and wouldn't hear a thing anyone said either.

I'm with you, OP. I really adored her friendship with Elena in the first season and I think she is gorgeous. I just wish she wasn't so bitter and angry all the time. I understand why she feels that way but at the same time I think I am too accustomed to seeing characters let these things go at some point and so having it drag on like this feels frustrating.

It really doesn't fit in TVD's world, where people kill people and connive and double-cross and eventually get over it/sleep with the person. Bonnie stays upset, which, yeah, I can understand, but it keeps her very one dimensional and keeps her from progressing.

I guess I'm just used to how they handle situations like that on Supernatural. People manipulate you and stab you in the back. They might even kill you. Best case scenario, Dean punches you in the face and hounds you until you start seeing things his way and then he moves on. Worse case scenario, you get killed. Then they move on.

I guess my point is that Bonnie really needs to realize that in the kind of life she leads people will die and people will stab her in the back. It's just the nature of the very literal beast. It's not right and it sucks but it's just how it goes. I say if she's not going to nut up and get even then she should shut up and stop with the pissy bitter act already. It's getting really old.

But Bonnie is dull. Seriously, she has had almost no character growth in the three seasons. The Bonnie of season one is the same woman of season three. Everyone else has changed. Why has she stayed the same?

IA. I think she's okay, but she's so bitter and angry about everything and towards everyone that I just can't help but not enjoy her scenes. She doesn't get any progression, either, which sucks, because she's become the token POC and/or witch.

I feel bad for being able to empathize with almost all the other ~conflicted~ characters on the show, but not her.

Don't feel bad, anon. I've been watching since day 1 and I've never liked her. Can't stand her, in fact. Has nothing to do with her race or being a woman, either. I don't like Bonnie's bitterness, but I also think I just don't like the actress.

If you don't like Bonnie, that's fine but the reason Bonnie fans are upset is that she's the ONLY non-white main character and the show NEVER uses her. She gets zero character development and is only allowed to appear on-screen to do magic or be a friend/girlfriend/enemy for one of the other main characters. This is on the WRITERS, though. Most Bonnie fans I know think the WRITERS are racist/sexist for not developing/caring about Bonnie, not other fans for disliking her.

Although I do rme when fans say that they don't like Bonnie because she's so ~boring. Like you say, that's on the writers so why not direct most of the ire at them? I'm frustrated with Bonnie as a character but said frustration is mostly directed towards the writers. Bonnie's only ever trotted out whenever the show needs some witchy deus ex machina solution; she pretty much only exists as an extension of the white characters. It blows, and Julie Plec sucks.

Of course it's a different story if you think she just sucks as an actress! But even then I don't think she's really been given much to DO in terms of showing off her acting range. The biggest opportunity she got was when Bonnie's grandmother died, and I thought Kat did well with that one scene. But of course then TPTB just shipped her off to god knows where because heaven forbid they follow through.

same thing has happened to matt. and even to some extent, jeremy. and matt is just as much friends with elena as bonnie, hell, he used to date her. he doesn't even get to be a witch. jeremy is elena's effin brother and yet he's only brought on when it fits with the storyline around the main characters. that's what happens with secondary characters. you don't see matt fans and jeremy fans crying about how the show doesn't care about white males...

I get that, but since I don't think she's EVER been given good character dev, I just can't get behind her. Her being a woman or POC doesn't change that, unfortunately. It's upsetting that nobody on the writing staff cares about her, but she's never appealed to me enough for me to actually get mad at the writers for not developing her...because she's never been developed. It's a bit of a perpetuating circle.

What? Wasn't this based off a book? In other words: aren't the characters already fleshed out? So how can people cry "racism!" when she's playing a character that already exists?

I like Bonnie and the actress who plays her, but the way she juts out her chin drives me CRAZY. I also wish they would start giving her actual storylines instead of just repeating the same stuff over and over. I'm just counting the days until she has to sacrifice her latest love interest to save Elena and/or loses her powers again.

OMG thank you! I was starting to feel like I was the only one who hated Bonnie. I mean, I liked her before her grandma died and she left, but after she came back... She should've never come back.

YOU ARE NOT ALONE, NONNIE. I immediately linked this secret to my friend, because we both bitch about Bonnie every week. We're tired of her storyline, we were both disappointed with the Jeremy relationship but relieved it was so brief - we knew we wouldn't get the Jeremy/Tyler we wanted, but we didn't want him with Bonnie - and we think it's so lame that she suddenly has all this power and magic just because they need her to for whatever storyline is going on. Talk about a Mary Sue.

For me, at least, it's nothing against the actress. I thought she was cute in 17 Again. But I do understand the headtilt factor - there's something kind of strange about her jaw and the way she shapes words.

Bonnie's my favorite character (and one of the only reasons I'm still watching this show) so I obviously disagree about her being dull and uninteresting but as you can see from the comments section, you're not alone in those thoughts, OP. As much as I love Bonnie, I don't really care if other people don't? I personally can't stand Damon or Klaus, but the rest of the fandom seems to love them. As long as other fans respect that we're each entitled to our own opinions, I don't really see the problem? Though I would like to know which communities/sites you visit with all this Bonnie-love, as most of the communities I've seen have plenty of the opposite.

I'm honestly curious why you like her? I think she's been consistently badly-written and hasn't had development since S1, and that's why I've never gotten to like her. She doesn't seem to advance very much, character-wise(I don't even know if she's still upset over things that happened in S1 or more recent events or what, anymore, because she's always angry and it feels like she's flip-flopping? IDK).
What do others see that I don't?

As for comms, well, I don't really frequent TVD comms, because from what I've seen, the fandom is far too immature for me to deal with, but ONTD seems to only care about Bonnie anymore, and many of
the people I've talked to in other fandoms/comms/on flists seem to love her, even more than the primary characters. I thought it was the popular opinion, tbh.

Bonnie has a kickass grandmother. Other than that she doesn't do anything for me either. *shrug*
