Hiddleston I can kind of see, but Cumberbatch? Plzno. Aziraphale shouldn't look like Cumberbatch, he should be older and chubbier and not as "posh", I guess? I'm not sure if there's a better way to describe how I see him, tbh. But there's just something so young and angle-y that makes him wrong for Aziraphale...

I've had my dream-casting for Good Omens experience a complete turn-over several times in the years since I've read the book. Every time I came up with a new Aziraphale and/or Crowley, I'd think "Okay, this is the ultimate casting for this thing. I will cry forever if they don't make a movie with these people!" But then I'd forget about it after a while and a few years later, I'd become enamored with the idea of completely new lead pair and the process would start all over again.

Eh. I'm experiencing Cumberbatch overload right now, so I wouldn't be enthusiastic. I'm, like, the last lady!geek on Earth to have no opinion on Tom Hiddleston one way or t'other. Ideally I'd like to see fifty-ish actors, but whoever on TVTropes suggested David Tennant in both roles is my hero/ine.

Benedict Cumberbatch would be so wrong for Aziraphale. As if it isn't bad enough I keep picturing him as Sherlock, he doesn't radiate the... old-fashioned, polite, "proper cup of tea" Englishness I always associate with the angel.

So apparently I'm the only one here who thinks Cumberbatch could pull off a decent Aziraphale (if not better) but Hiddleston is woefully miscast.

No for both of them. They're way too young looking. Also, if Crowley ended up being being woobified like Loki was, it would probably kill me with sorrow.

Cumberbatch too. Never seen him outside of half an episode of Sherlock, and associating Azirphale with the character that I wanted to strangle into silence would make me very sad. Can he play roles where he isn't an outrageous dickbag?

.......whoa. I really like both of them, but I really wouldn't cast either in those roles. MAYBE Cumberbatch, maybe, cause I know he can do wicked-posh and highstrung, but not Hiddleston for Crowley. Nooo way. And it's not that I don't like him, but just - not that role. Nein.

This is the worst fucking fancasting I ever saw for this. Both of them are mediocre actors, Loki doesn't have the charms to play Crowley and Beneglrahvsdfsdf is so fucking ugly it hurts my eyes.

The only person I've ever been able to see playing Aziraphale is Eric Idle. I've never been able to think of a good Crowley. They'd both have to be older to make sense, though. I know Eric Idle's like 70 now, but he could totally pass for 50-ish.

(In case anyone cares, my headcast also includes Jack Black and, for some reason, Chris Kattan as Hastur and Ligur, Jonathan Frakes as Famine, Laura Prepon as War, Emma Watson as Anathema Device, and Patrick Stewart as Sgt. Shadwell.)

I just can't see this casting (especially Benedict as Aziraphale, omg no). I kind of really, really want Ioan Gruffudd to play Crowley, but I have no idea about Aziraphale (other than he should be slightly older of whoever plays Crowley).

I love both these choice. Apologies to everyone else. I saw this on Facebook and squeed.

I can see how people would be iffy about Cumberbatch, but Hiddleston would be an awesome Crowley---he can balance deviousness and charisma so well. He also has the cheekbones. Someone on my flist actually suggested him as a potential Crowley last summer, so yeah. It's a fun dreamcast.

ETA: I keep reading through the comments and I can't believe how seriously everyone is taking this. Dreamcasting is meant to be fun. Lordy.

Eh, as much as I enjoy them I'm glad that they're not likely to be attached to this adaptation. Part of it is Cumberbatch/Hiddleston overload due to Tumblr's collective lust/the Avengers coming up a few months post-Sherlock and part of it is that I think they wouldn't be super ideal for the roles. Mind you, I have trouble picturing some of the people I've mentally fancasted in the roles. (Robert Sean Leonard as Az because he has the right look about him and Ioan Gruffudd or Idris Elba as Crowley only because Mark Shepard doesn't really have the obvious cheekbones anymore. And I want him to keep guest staring on SPN.)

And, to be honest, I'm more concerned with who they'll cast as Adam and the Them since GoT seems to have the brunt of the UK's legitimately good child actors.
