People trying to justify fanon pairings with the Magic Word (subtext) are among the most irritating, irrational human beings on the entire planet.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
It isn't because of subtext. There are interviews.

[identity profile] anonlulz.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 04:12 am (UTC)(link)
ZOMG WORD OF GOD SAIZ ITS TRUE!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 02:35 am (UTC)(link)
Matter of opinion, I suppose. Personally, I find people who run around fandom chanting "nah-nanana-nah, our ship is canon, you can suck it all other ships" annoying beyond the telling of it.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 03:02 am (UTC)(link)
The people that run around saying "nah-nanana-nah, our ship should be canon, you can suck it all other ships" are on the same level.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 03:17 am (UTC)(link)
Thus proving OP's point. Both sides are awful.

[identity profile] anonlulz.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 04:15 am (UTC)(link)
My dick is bigger than yours!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:31 am (UTC)(link)
Considering I don't have a dick I concede to your point. Your dick is indeed bigger than mine.

[identity profile] anonlulz.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
You can get an e-dick for $0.02.

Then, you could always participate in debates.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-24 09:05 am (UTC)(link)
xD xD xD

run around fandom chanting "nah-nanana-nah, our ship is canon, you can suck it all other ships"

... that is what K/S fans do all the time. (insert "ZOMG THYLA soulmates destiny ZOMG subtext we're canon GR basically said that!Look at this quote taken out of context that proves GR didn't object to slash fans my ship is canon your argument is invalid! ")

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 02:57 pm (UTC)(link)
You know, I'm not a shipper. The only relationships in Trek that I support are the (friend)ships but I do believe what you just did here is exactly what the OP was referring to in their secret. Exactly.

You realize that the comment you replied to didn't mention any of the ships by name but that you just did in your reply, thus making this thread personal now? The anon above simply said he/she didn't like it when cannon relationships are lauded over other shippers heads, a sentiment that is expressed in every fandom, everywhere (I would know, I follow like, ten fandoms), i.e. nothing NEW, and nothing indigenous to just Trek.

If any of the K/S'ers come in all defensive now because of what YOU just wrote and this thread turns into yet another warzone thread instead of the lighthearted revelry its been (which has been REFRESHING btw), I'm holding you accountable for it.

gtfo

[identity profile] dafnelemmon.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 03:26 pm (UTC)(link)
hypocrisy. again.

let's not pretend that the comment I was replying to doesn't clearly refer to the S/U shippers (identical comments where also made in a recent wank here. and Its the only "canon" ship here) I'm not the one here who is proving the OP's point making the thread personal. If people keep writing certain things like the anon above then it's no surprise that someone may reply to them.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:05 pm (UTC)(link)
Honestly, upon reading that comment I myself thought the same thing bc they wrote that in the other thread as well and I thought here we go again but I chose to not comment on it.
Someone here likes to play passive aggressive putting wank baits.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:24 pm (UTC)(link)
You are the only one who replied attacking a specific ship. The anon made a general statement. You replied specifically naming names and also attacking their slash goggles. You could have replied saying something along the lines of... "there is more than one ship in Trek who tries to wave the cannon banner and yes I agree it gets annoying, I wish it would stop" or "lauding something as cannon in the Trek fandom is widely spread, more than one side participates and I wish that wasn't the case", did you do either of these things to get the same point across? NO YOU DID NOT. You said:

... that is what K/S fans do all the time. (insert "ZOMG THYLA soulmates destiny ZOMG subtext we're canon GR basically said that!Look at this quote taken out of context that proves GR didn't object to slash fans my ship is canon your argument is invalid! ")

And came off sounding snotty and ire-rising, like you were issuing a battle cry. And I'm not even invested and I thought this. I could care less what your personal views on the K/S ship and its shippers are, but I do care that every single secret that gets posted here is either shipper related or quickly becomes so in the comments. When I saw this yesterday I wanted to give OP a big, huge hug in thank you for pretty much reading my mind and voicing what I've wanted to say for ages now.

You know, I was totally ambivelant about S/U in Reboot. I was more interested in the clever backstory of each of the crew and how they still managed to come together despite AOS being an alternate universe. The romance aspect didn't bother me, though nor did I wet myself in glee over it either, but were I inclined to ship it? I'd stay well away because of how crazy and defensive the shippers are (as you've given us a clear example of with this thread).

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:40 pm (UTC)(link)
DA

who is ire-rising now? You're having pretty much the same reaction you're saying that the other person had. Unlike you the other person didn't comment anonymously so if you really didn't want to generate a new shipper war but wanted to reply to that person you could have send them a private message.

Telling people to GTFO doesn't help either. This is a public community not your personal blog where you get to decide who can post. I still haven't read a shipper from those groups saying that to the other fans even in the worst discussions here.

And I'm not even invested and I thought this
ehhh...after these comments you made here I find it hard to believe that you're really "not invested" and you could "care less". If this is your reaction for something you don't care about It's scaring to think how you'd react if people were talking about your shipper. Sorry but I don't buy that. You have your own personal reasons for replying just like everyone here otherwise you wouldn't have replied so passionately.

at least other people here are are honest with their opinions and they don't hide behind the non shipper flag.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 05:12 pm (UTC)(link)
the shippers have a reason to get defensive at least
what's your reason?
assuming that the other comment was a wank bait you fell for it and now you sound just as crazy and defensive (and I think the word you wanted to use is overinvested).
You're not helping.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Basically what I'm trying to say its not THAT you replied that has OP and I upset, its HOW you replied.

Diplomacy, look it up. The ST posts would be far more fun (as it has been below on this very thread, I've been giggling over everyone who has been cracking jokes) if the S/U and the K/S crowd both would just stop trying to rip a hole in each other. Fandom is big enough for both of you!

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 03:06 pm (UTC)(link)
OP here.

Like the above anon said, way to prove my point by turning what was a general statement into an attack on a specific group of people.

[identity profile] dafnelemmon.livejournal.com 2012-05-23 03:32 pm (UTC)(link)
that's what anonlulz and the anon K/S fan did before me too. Excuse me if I dared to reply like you and the other anon are also doing. But hey I accept all the blame if it makes you feel better ;)
Edited 2012-05-23 15:32 (UTC)

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:00 pm (UTC)(link)
How do you know that that anon is a K/S fan?

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:27 pm (UTC)(link)
the fact that a K/S fan said pretty much the same thing in another secret that generated wank could make someone guess that ;) just saying.
I came to the conclusion that it's always the same people (from both groups) replying in these secrets anyway.
It's also a little irritating for me personally when shippers claim to not be shippers (especially posting anonymously) because usually those make attacks on a specific group so the whole I'm not a shipper comes off as an excuse to sound unbiased. If you don't care about either shipper you don't care to start arguments with any of those fans either, at least in my opinion.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 04:59 pm (UTC)(link)
+1

harry potter anyone? I'm not shippy in that fandom and yes the shipper wars were and still are annoying as hell but I could care less about them wanking I never commented taking sides to the extent that some "non shippers" do here. Who cares to participate in the wank. Not my shipper. No one to defend. Not energy to waste.
It makes sense for the shippers to comment to the attacks and get defensive because you're touching what they like, but if it's not your shipper then why you care so much?
so yeah I don't believe in the non shippers crap either, not when people make comments like the ones above.

(Anonymous) 2012-05-23 06:26 pm (UTC)(link)
I am genuinely a non-shipper (at least for TOS and AOS - I do admit to liking a little Riker/Troi, Dax/Worf and Chakotay/Janeway in my day) believe me or don't believe, my point remains the same. The shipwars have gotten out of hand. Every secret posted on this site either is about it or becomes one in the comments. I care about this for two reasons, one is I'd like to talk about other Trek related topics, and two because it paints the Trek fandom as a whole in a bad light. The type of behavior put on display here is embarrassing for ALL of us, especially considering that the theme of Trek, especially TOS era, is tolerance and equality. I wish both sides would just stop already. I don't think it's too off-base a desire to voice. Go ahead and jump all over me for expressing that desire as you already have. I'm beginning to wonder if the fighting will ever end because its becoming clear that anytime anyone calls your attention to how bad its getting, you get defensive of THAT too. Its not just ships you're defensive of, your defensive over being defensive. I mean, Christ, what does it take to have some peace and some Trek discussions that don't make us all look so horrible on a multi-fandom site where impressions can easily be made?

Let me ask you this, do you think the shipwars have scared anyone off, people who were kind of interested but just out to test the waters, from getting involved in Trek fandom? Because I do think this and it makes me sad. It's not helping the franchise.

That's not proof at all that said anon is a K/S fans.

In fact, the sentiment that they're expressing (that it's annoying when people tout their canon ship as better simply because it's canon) is one that is shared by many people across practically every fandom under the sun. Just because someone else, who happened to be a K/S shipper, expressed that sentiment in a previous post doesn't mean that the anon you're referring to is that same person or even a fan of the K/S ship. You're just jumping to conclusions here.

Also, what are you trying to say? That everyone involved in fandom must ship something? That's hardly the case. There are many people involved with fandom that actually don't ship anything. The reason that people are stating their shipping stance when they comment in these threads is because people like you assume that they must ship pairing x because they're making y statements and therefore their opinions are invalid. In addition, it is perfectly understandable why someone who is not affiliated with any ship would want to express their dislike of the pointless wank that's gripped this fandom as of late.

Why do you think I made this secret? I made it because I was sick of every Star Trek secret being about stupid ship wars or somehow managing to incite another ship war because of wanky comments made by both sides. I'm still baffled by how both the S/U shippers and the K/S shippers are so quick to condemn one another for the mean comments made by a few members of their ship. The fact is, in fandom there are always a few people that will try to ruin the experience for everyone with their nasty comments and poor attitude--just like in the real world. The point is not to let those people spread their nastiness around, which I feel has been happening as of late in the Star Trek fandom.

It's upsetting to see two groups of people--some of whom are some of my closest friends despite not having anything in common when it comes to shipping--being pitted against each other by the few mean people who want to start nothing but wank.
