*hugs you* THANK YOU! 8D I have an online friend who hasn't kept steady RL friends for a while because she's moved at least once a year since I've known her, which is why I think it's all the more important to treasure the friends you have.

[identity profile] vzg.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 01:39 am (UTC)(link)
Agreed. There are bad American cartoons and good American cartoons just as there is bad anime and good anime. :/

Ah, I don't skip out on social activity with my rl friends, if that's what you mean. There's no one calling me to say hi, and vice versa, because the bonds between all of us didn't stay so strong once we got out of high school.

It's not that we haven't gotten together a few times, when schedules have allowed it, but people change.

Well, I think if the only people around you are idiots, then it's better not to hang out with them. What I was trying to say though, was that it makes me upset when people are like, "Today, my friends invited me to see a movie. But I decided to stay home and read fanfiction instead. ♥"

There is a balance, and I've lost more than my share of good online friends to "real life" so I'm not saying stop fandoming. There's just no need to shut yourself out from the rest of the world when there are other people who care about you in it.

So is this where we make fun of the amusing fact that Blue's voice actor does Basch's English voice in Final Fantasy XII? Because I think it is.

Yeah, idealistically, everyone would easily be able to make friends offline. That's why it makes me sad when people who have them ignore them. =(

Well, maybe I'm lucky that my RL friends are more understanding of my fandom obsession. 8DD;;

Nicely put.

I get this. ^_^ But when people do have genuine friends who love them and ignore them for fandom, I'm a bit disappointed in them.

[identity profile] kristenell.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 02:02 am (UTC)(link)
Can you explain why? I have seen crap on both sides, and I have seen awesome on both sides. They both have their virtues, and I think that argue that one has to be superior are the pack of fools.

Not saying you have to like American animation, but your preferences does not superiority make.

I'm sorry. Maybe those who moved away can be your online friends now? I have a friend who did this. ^~

You are lucky, Anon. XD Only one of my RL friends is into animanga and videogames, but he isn't even involved in fandom. And that's when I turn to the internet. Better to get out all my fangirl needs here, then act like a raving lunatic in front of my RL friends lolz~

You can always delude yourself and read scanlations where they have it as 'Raito' :P

I'm still not getting over his name.

22. It does rule. You're emo, no one cares. OMFG, you don't like -insert RP here-! RABID SNARL! Seriously, though ljsecret is just an emo breeding ground. This place is amusing even if I rarely submit anything to it these days. I stick around for the drama.

Idealistically, yeah, but sometimes it doesn't work out. I think it's good to have both friends online and offline, and to not reject one group for the other or consider one lesser and the other better.

One of the major problems, IMO, is a misunderstanding of the word "friend." For as much as everyone gripes that LJ "friends" aren't true friends and how dare they use that word to describe one's reading list (which isn't true for me, I *do* have some true friends on here), it's just as easy to have "fake friends" in real life as well. The usual advice for making RL friends, in fact (e.g. "become prettier/more handsome, make more money, don't be too different") is, ironically, the best way of attracting completely false or "only here to take advantage of what you can give me" friends.

re 18:

Yeah, their total loss. XP I mean I don't watch much American animation because I just generally don't watch TV (I don't watch much anime anymore either), but to me, Fairly GodParents > most anime shows. XD It's just so amusing. ♥

(No offense to anyone. I just personally find that show better than most action-packed, drama-filled shoujo anime.)

I second that! :D

They both have their bad qualities. Like those squeaky animes/harem animes that are really low-budget or those really vulgar cartoons that Americans like to produce with lots of bathroom and/or penis jokes. XD;;

Either way, they both have their good qualities and are both awesome. I don't get why people have to be jerks about it. It's like the comic book/manga thing going on. XP

It's stupid.

People just love to not get along. D:

iawtc.

I've met a few elitist anime fans who refuse to watch or draw anything else. In fact, I used to be one of them.. >_< I love anime, but I'm glad I opened up to the other things out there.

[identity profile] infi-inficio.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 03:14 am (UTC)(link)
3. LOL at the picture
14. It's just for fun, it's not as if we think we're seriously representing the character (at least, most of the people I know). So I guess I need those ego trips...? :(

You know, in high school I thought the same thing of all my peers (all drunken losers) until I actually got offline and LOOKED, and turns out? it's just a vocal minority. I promise you, kids today may be lazy but they're not all retarded cokeheads. Just branch out =\

Re: 18

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 03:38 am (UTC)(link)
But the point of Avatar is that it takes the base principles of anime and improves drastically upon them (esp in animation).

It's more like complaining about people who like sugar and then eating cake.

Not to imply Miyazaki isn't worthy, because he totally is.

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 03:40 am (UTC)(link)
I dunno, I think it's just that there are FAR more American-animation fans in America.

Re: 1

[identity profile] kinneas.livejournal.com 2007-07-17 03:45 am (UTC)(link)
Idealistically. I'm a HUGE proponent of making moar friends offline than on, and tend to think most of the people spouting, "BUT EVERYONE HERE SUCKS" are complete idiots, and even I know there are situations that prevent the making of IRL buddies.

For instance, I have a friend whose parents emotional abuse through control is so strong that she can't leave the house except for school, which is obviously not ideal for maintaining any sort of legitimate friendship.

So yeah =\

...You must not be watching the same anime I've been watching, because as great as Avatar's animation is, I've seen better. Much better. But then, I don't watch most "mainstream" anime, so I guess it's not a big surprise.
