Thanks. I was wondering why the OP bemoaned the lack of attention on a nice looking comic then didn't leave a title?!

Look at it this way, nonnie: if you never create and post your webcomic, then of course you'll never have readers.

With so many webcomics out there now, it's difficult to be noticed. You gotta fight for it. Talk to other webcomic artists. Ask your friends and family to reblog/tweet/make wall posts/talk about your webcomic. Make promo post cards and give them away freely. Draw fanart and write fanfic for popular shows or ships and post it to the appropriate sites--and make sure your webcomic is right there for visitors to notice. Offer guest webcomics whenever someone asks.

Be reliable in your updates, and always always network.

I'm a wannabe webcomicker too, and I'm already taking my own advice. We all gotta start somewhere, right? :D

Yup, this. You have to advertise and self-promote like crazy to get noticed, and even then you have to face the fact you still might fail. It's one of the perils of being an artist. Also, try and make sure that you have a regular update schedule and keep to it. Some of the more successful webcomics I know of have very consistent updates, though some are far quicker than others.

THIS COMMENT. Right up there. Good advice.

I've been working on my own webcomic for about 2 years. We are doing well (it's Namesake, if anyone is curious), but for it to gain popularity, we had to always update on time, be kind to everyone, answer a lot of mail, tweet, use tumblr, do guest art, and invest a bit of money in advertisement. No webcomic gets popular magically. Most that do get popular really quickly are those that features jokes that get blogged all over the internet (such as Kate Beaton). When you are trying to create something that is more like a narrative story, you need to treat it like a job, and invest a lot of time, energy and money. This person obviously has an excellent comic. She probably just needs help advertising it. And by posting to fandom secrets, you helped. Well done, OP.

You have to do it for yourself first. Then the people will come. PS advertising helps I've only heard this comic mentioned on 4chan. They could probably use more promotion... yet they still get 33 more comments than my comic does so they're doing crazy good by my standards.

just keep going. that is all the advice i can give.

don't let NOTHIN' GET YA DOWNWNNNN yeahhhhh

[personal profile] rtydmartel 2012-06-06 01:51 am (UTC)(link)
If it's any consolation, Unsounded isn't known very much because the author doesn't promote it as much as other artists do. (Doesn't buy ads in other comics, doesn't -as far as I know- tumblr/twitter/dA etc. I mean, visit the page and there is so little information that doesn't directly concern the comic itself!)

[personal profile] slr2moons's advice is spot-on.

The main thing that isn't social networking is to have consistent schedule. That can make or break the momentum the attention to your comic gains through word of mouth.

Everything else is, well, social networking.

Put your webcomic out there, but be warned that there is a LOT of noise out there, and a large amount of it goes ignored. If you want to be noticed, you gotta promote, and promote hard. Be shameless.

God, that artwork is gorgeous!

Never come across this before myself, but I've just read through the entire archives. It's a really good read, Nonnie; thanks for pointing it out!

Most of the new comics I come across are either here or in comments on other ones that I read, or else the other comics I read have a list somewhere of other comics they like, so occasionally I check those ones out too, especially if I keep seeing the same ones on different lists, over and over. So she could try showing her work to some other artists and see if they'll link back. But honestly, it really is so beautiful and detailed that I can't help but think that she ought to be looking at getting it published somewhere. The art really is gorgeous, ang the writing is well done and very engaging. Also, Duane is awesome. :D
