How many of these do we have to go through before people realize the "accidentally One of Us" scenario is extremely common?

It's not about not wanting to feel vulnerable, it's about poking something with a stick and watching to see what it does.

The funny thing is nobody even notices or cares whether secrets are trolls or not unless they're blatant. Whatever they say, somebody has prob said it before. No troll is going to out-do genuinely fucked-up fandom shit like CC or Victoria Bitter.

If you poke something with a stick it's going to be unhappy. The more you poke it with a stick, the more unhappy it will be.
I don't see why this apparently needs so many people testing it.

That's a strange logical jump to make. Not everything reacts to being poked exactly the same way every time. It also depends on the type of stick you use, how hard you poke, where you poke, and so forth. You've never laughed when poked in the side? You must be a very serious person. Trolling can be subtle and complex and entertaining as well as stupid and childish. It's not always done to purposely harm others.

Alternatively, some of my very real secrets have been accused of being troll secrets, while I I never post anything just for the sake of trolling. I might spice it up at best, or muddle details to hide my identity - but they're always true.

You think posting anonymous secrets is about being vulnerable? That literally misses the entire point of f!s. The point of making it a secret is so that you don't HAVE to feel vulnerable.

There's no way any of us will ever know for certain if 99% of these secrets are true. *shrugs* Doesn't bother me. It's entertainment.

I usually try not to think about it, because I'll honestly never understand trolling. But on the other side part of me really wants to understand, but can't, so I just end up chasing my own tail and getting frustrated.
It's really silly so I'm just gonna leave it at that.

Eh, I wouldn't be surprised if half the secrets we get every day were troll secrets.

I know a lot of people don't care and will argue against this, but this type of trolling just bothers me. It's lying and manipulating and I just don't like it. Nothing I can do to stop you, and there's no way to tell which secrets are real or not. But it bothers me.

Also, it means I don't take secrets at face value and assume everyone could be lying and manipulating and trolling. Which sucks, because some of these are genuine things that mean something to people. Just because you don't care doesn't mean you should mock the ones who do.

It's not a good idea to take anything anonymous on the internet at face value.

When I reply to secrets, I think about it this way: even if the OP is trolling, there's bound to be a bunch of people out there on the internet who probably wholeheartedly believes whatever the secret says. I respond in general to all those people.

That's actually a good way of looking at it. I'm a little sensitive because I recently went through a whole deceitful mess with, who I thought was, a good friend of mine. :\ So maybe a little with the over-reaction.

This makes me not want to bother. I've seen good sites and communities turn into cesspools because they just end up being full trolls and then the trolls out number the honest people and also non-trolls tend to leave pretty fast as soon as they see a comm is on its way to turning into a shithole.

To be fair FS has always been about trolling. Even technophile admitted it in his Moving to Dreamwidth post. And people have tried to mass spam secrets to troll for years, I think the SPN community and SomethingAwful both were among that number, nothing's ever come from it.

Frankly one admitted false secret maker is not really going to change anything. If it's too obvious, people will call it out and threads will get frozen. If it's not obvious enough? One of Us.

You're probably right, but for me FS is enjoyable for the secrets about fandoms that I'm not in or following, rather than the comments. So if 90% of the secrets are fake what is the even the point? It's like going to a news community and half the posts are troll news. Which has happened.
