It still makes me sad that the general assumption is that all SPN fans hate the women characters ): Bela, Jo, Ellen, Ruby, Lilith, all some of my favourites, and I know more people in my little bit of fandom who love the bamf!ladies than those who hate on them.

Maybe I'm just too used to being in the "minor characters" side of fandom haha. I'll stick to my Crowley-fangirls thanks.

i don't hate the women either. i actually prefer the minor characters over dean/sam/cass.

but dang the show sure hates the female characters.

idk, I guess I've always had a hard time seeing the accusations, personally. I mean, don't get me wrong, most of the women characters die, but the men don't really get the better end of the stick. Gabriel, Rufus, Papa Winchester, that kinda awesome cop guy whose name I forget from Jus in Bello (HENRICKSON!!), Alistair, Lucifer (to an extent), leery of spoilers but season 7 (;_____;). I think it's the Winchester curse D: (even though most of the deaths are bad guys).

Then again, I have this issue with most of the media I consume (that phrase sounds so weird, like, OM NOM NOM MEDIA ahah). I see character deaths as servicing the story, and most of the time it feels like their natural arc-ending to me. Might just be me? I've never met anyone else who feels that way, anyway.

Personally, I'm one of those who would rather a character die anyway, cos it causes angst. Mmmm delicious angst. And that's the reason I adore Abandon All Hope so much - yes, they might have died, but they died helping out someone they loved, and they went out heroically. It felt like a perfect end to their story, to me.

On another note, I don't get why don't liking the female characters makes me a Misogynist. I like some but I dislike others, just like with the male characters. And I can give a bunch of reasons for why I don't like the female characters I dislike.

And I have to agree with you, everyone dies. Though female characters tend to not last as long as males do.

Same though, disliking characters does not equal disliking women in general. Then again, I think the same about how I don't think you can attribute what an author writes about to their actual personality. So I write really dark fic with torture and murder? Doesn't translate that I torture and murder people in my spare time.

I don't like Lisa (and a couple of the other women, though not all, because I adore some); I also don't like Zachariah (and, as I said, a couple of the other men). This is the case for a lot of people I know. You like some, you hate some.

Stop painting all fans with the same brush (not you, but people like OP). Stop throwing the word "misogynist" around. I'm all for rare character love, male or female. If the "non-misogynist" fans out there want to read/write/draw the under-loved women of SPN, by all means, they should.

I agree, I'm sure there misogynist fans out there but it seems to be misogynist is the newest trend word to throw aroud. The show might hate women, I don't know I ever thought about it enough to pass judgement, but the show also hates men.

And even if someone doesn't like any of the women on the show, as long as they have good reasons for disliking them that doesn't make them misogynist.

I've hated some of the women (Bela and Lisa, specifically - and it's not really the characters that I hated, but the lazy, cliched writing that went into them) but liked others.

It annoys me somewhat that I can't express dislike for any female character ever for any reason without it being assumed that I'm a bitchy fangirl who doesn't want girl cooties near my boys.

Do you talk about the female characters you do like? Do you write fic about them or rec fic about them or create vids or art about them? Do you have icons of them in your userpics?

If the answer to these questions is no and all anyone sees is your commentary on the female characters you hate and the male characters you love, then you are a bitchy fangirl who doesn't want lady cooties near her guys.

If the answer to these questions is yes, then whoohoo and rock on with your bad self.

Doing those things or not has nothing to do with being misogynistic - i.e. actually hating women. You can be a fan of someone and not do any of those things. Hell, you can not do any of those things and still not HATE ALL WOMEN, or even that woman in particular. You can be a passive fan or you can be ambivalent towards a character, and it doesn't mean you hate them.

Except sometimes even if you do like a bunch of ladies, you're labelled a misogynist for not liking the right ladies. Try wanting to talk about Hunger Games if you don't find Katniss a very interesting character, even if over half of the characters you actually do like are women/girls.

tbh I mostly just hang out on tumblr and follow like, everyone who posts a lot of Mark Sheppard haha. I used to be really majorly into the Dean/Cas side of fandom, but I started to get upset at all the rampant hatred of the seasons/storylines that I adored, so I basically just drifted away.
