Was there SJ wank about this show? I don't like it either, but that's because I get massive second-hand embarrassment whenever I've watched it. I suppose parts of it are pretty funny, but I find myself so uncomfortable at everything that I just can't like it.

I can't stand most of this show because of all the secondhand humiliation. I'm sorry, but other people being horribly embarrassed is not funny. I have to watch it between my fingers, but like you said, Jim's pranks are awesome.

I had to sit through an episode of this show while I was in an urgent care clinic one evening.

That effectively turned me off from ever watching it again, it was that unfunny. And I normally like dark-ish humor.

The show made me uncomfortable after someone pointed out the inappropriate coworker who was making my life hell was basically Michael Scott.

Not related to the secret but, hey! I just realised why that promo pic is set where it is!

Uh...I'm not even sure I should ask what the wank was for this show. I never heard of it being problematic, but I don't follow it either.

I've never saw this version, though I did watch the first episode of the original and it did nothing for me. Martin Freeman was adorable, but other than him...it just wasn't my thing. Granted it probably gets better after that, but I had no desire to keep watching it.

Stay far away from the UK Office then, OP. It's even worse, if you can believe it.

I saw a single clip of this show - when they were singing Staying Alive while performing CPR - wasn't there talk about it being canceled? Because I can totally see why it would be.

Well, the thing with the Office is that the jokes aren't bigoted, bigotry is the butt of the joke. The show doesn't celebrate Michael's offensive idiocy, it rolls it's eyes at it and makes fun of it. I can see how the presense of said offensive idiocy in the first place could make you uncomfortable, of course, and plenty of people with embarrassment squicks hate this show, so meh, you like what you like.

One of my favorite moments is when Michael goes down to the warehouse to bond with the blue-collar working man ("i'm collarblind") , and starts a conversation where they can all talk about their women like bros and complain about the chicks and whatnot, and then they start to realize how much Michael has screwed them over, and as they all start to turn on him, he's just like "b-but... guys, c'mon. Just blame the chicks" or something and they're so obviously having none of his BS. and idk, it was a great moment because it wasn't an anti-women joke, it was an anti-sexism joke.

I'm not an SJW at all, but I still can't stand this show.

Agreed with everyone on the secondhand embarrassment. I also really, really dislike shows that TALK TO THE CAMERA. Where is my fourth wall!?

I just think this show has been on for too long. I liked the UK office because it was short and sweet and dark and funny and to the point. US office has far overstayed its welcome IMO.

I don't know if I've ever seen a full episode (and don't care to) but I love watching compilations of Jim's pranks on Dwight on youtube. They need no context.

I thought seasons 2 and 3 of the show were GOLDEN. Season 4 had its moments too, but now it's just painful to watch.

And yet.

I keep watching. I blame Catherine Tate. I would have left the show when Michael Scott did if it wasn't for her.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-17 11:37 pm (UTC)(link)
Really? I just hated it because of consistant poor acting, production and set design. Everything about the build of it, never mind script content, comes off as cheap and slapdash.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-17 11:43 pm (UTC)(link)
i could never fucking stand this show. My parents love it, though. ugh.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-17 11:49 pm (UTC)(link)
"the SJWs have finally destroyed my ability to enjoy comedy"

Gee, I don't know, OP, why would you think "they" have that kind of power over you? Pathetic.

I tried to watch it, and I just couldn't. I was pausing it five or six times an episode because of the secondhand embarrassment. It just wasn't worth it for me. That, and I just didn't find it funny, at all.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-17 11:55 pm (UTC)(link)
i tried getting into this show by starting with the first season on netflix but i just couldn't get through it. it didn't make me uncomfortable, i just found it extremely boring.

I miss this show around what it was seasons 2-4. Everything afterwards has struggled between this dark/dry comedy and cartoon feel that just doesn't mesh well anymore.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-18 12:08 am (UTC)(link)
In my case, watching that show is like working full time at Walmart then spending all my free hours, for fun, on sites like People of Walmart.

I understand the humor, I get why people would find it funny, just, for me, the show is tedious, not entertaining. So, obviously, I don't watch it.

the point, you are missing it

Honestly, YMMV, but I found that it got less cringe-inducing in later seasons.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-18 12:44 am (UTC)(link)
i hate this show for the secondhand embarrassment and because i had a boss who was exactly michael scott to a tee, except for being female.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-18 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
I really don't get everyone talking about the secondhand embarrassment. I experience it religiously pretty much in daily life, but I never really felt it from the show at all. I suppose because the situations in which you were supposed to feel it were by and large so ridiculously removed from reality, it was hard for me to connect with it?
