Oh thank GOD I'm not the only one who thinks that!!

Seriously, this movie is the reason I can't never not get nervous when playing Killer Instinct and figthing against the FREAKING VELOCIRAPTOR WTF

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 07:41 pm (UTC)(link)
I don't know, there are some genuinely scary moments in Jurassic Park. The scene with the raptor in the kitchen scares the hell out of me. I am, however, pretty easy to scare. But that particular scene, the suspense is built so well that even though you know it's coming, it's still scary. Plus the movie has so much to distract you from the horror aspects when you aren't right in the middle of them that when they do come up the contrast really makes them stand out.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 07:47 pm (UTC)(link)
Sorry you haven't seen many good horror movies. :(

Tell me some good ones and I'll tell you if I've seen them and what I thought. :) Or I'll go watch them - hey, if we can turn this bit here into a horror movie rec thread, that would be awesome.

I don't watch many horror movies in general but the few I have haven't done much for me. Games on the other hand...

That said I haven't seen this movie for so long I can't rightly say if it scares me or not. Guess I should remedy that because I loved it as a kid!

So,. Much. Yes. I hate horror movies, mainly because I find them to be a combination of unpleasantly frightening and boring as fuck, but Jurassic Park is and will always be one of my favorite and most terrifying movies ever, and this is coming from someone who has watched it AT LEAST six or seven times. Other horror movies do absolutely nothing for me, but that one? I have no idea why, but I love it to pieces and tense up in fright every single time.

Glad to know I'm not the only one that is completely horrified by it. I mean, awesome movie, but yeah. I have an illogical fear of mechanical t-rex, to the point where I have nightmares about them being possessed by demons and stuff. It's ridiculous.

When I was a kid I FUCKING LOVED DINOSAURS. Made my parents take me to the Natural History Museum in London whenever they could and carried my plastic diplodocus EVERWHERE. So when it came out on VHS my parents thought they'd be the best parents ever and rent it out for me.

So there I was, about 7 years old, clutching my dinosaur in excitement - and then the fence goes down, it gets dark, the water twitches. When the car is flipped and the kids are screaming and the t-rex is sniffing them out, I'm so overcome with fear and anxiety that I VOMIT EVERWHERE. Refuse to watch the rest for a few years. I feel so sorry for my parents, they tried so hard to please me when they realised I was never gonna like dolls and barbies LOL

99.9% of "scary" movies make me LOL because they're either cheesy or they scare other people and that makes me laugh. This is why I am so ashamed to admit that I stumbled upon a movie that finally won: The fucking Grudge. NEVER. AGAIN. I went cold every time my cat growled for at least a month. /shameface

I used to think I despised horror movies, then I saw Scary Movie (a parody of horror movies for anyone unfamiliar) and got scared when Carmen Electra got stabbed in the breast implant. I realized that it's not horror itself that bothers me, it's (lots of) blood. Unfortunately, blood is abundant in most of the horror movies I've seen.

Related to the secret photo, I always have to look away in Jurassic Park 2 when the two T-rexs "play wishbone" with Richard Schiff's character.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-22 11:53 pm (UTC)(link)
Not just you, OP. Most horror movies, I just don't find scary enough, but ever since I first saw Jurassic Park, some of my most horrifying nightmares have been about getting stuck there or having dinosaurs rampage my hometown. I remember I had a dream where I was being chased by raptors and I woke up running, with my legs actually moving. Another time, I can't remember what I was dreaming, but in the seconds before I was fully awake, I honestly thought I saw a T-Rex eye in my window. *shudder*

The thing is, I like dinosaurs, otherwise. *headdesk*

But honestly, I WISH more movies could still scare the shit out of me.

I like horror movies in theory, but I'm really picky.

I find a lot of horror movies don't scare me, either. I think there are different types and styles of horror, which may or may not be scary depending on what gets to you. For example, some people may be easily scared by knowing what's going to happen and anticipating it, so more formulaic slasher films might get to them. But if you need to genuinely not know what to expect, they'll just feel formulaic.

I also think that in some subgenres of horror, being genuinely scary isn't even necessarily the aim. I get this feeling with a lot of "torture porn" movies -- the terrible things that happen to the characters are treated like a payoff, not something that you're supposed to dread.

I feel the same way, but I always thought it's because, well, Spielberg, while most horror movies have...not Spielberg, lol.

(Anonymous) 2012-07-23 02:10 am (UTC)(link)
If it makes you feel better, the first time my family and I tried to see it, my sister and I got so scared we left IN THE MIDDLE OF THE MOVIE. We were so terrified we refused to go back in. Thankfully my parents were understanding and didn't force us to sit through the rest XD

This movie scares the fuck out of me, and I'm never scared of horror movies. I hate the idea of being outmatched by something, by not being the apex predator. (I'm a control freak, can't you tell?) Ghosts, boogie men, demons, those are easy enough to beat of you know the rules. What rules are there against "terrible lizards"? Beyond survival? No, thank you.

I first watched it on TV during Thanksgiving, and I legit shrieked and hid behind my hands. As did my mom, but we're both wusses when it comes to horror movies. ;-;

(Anonymous) 2012-07-24 06:17 am (UTC)(link)
I still remember the fear I felt when I saw that scene in the theater. But it was totally outdone by my reaction to the "raptors in the kitchen" part. When the raptor lunges at the camera while the children are escaping into the ceiling, I screamed so loud that everyone in the theater stared at me. My sister got irritated and embarrassed. lol
(I thought the kid would get their leg bitten off.)

So yeah, I get you.
