*waves* Fan of the original Fallout games who liked Fallout 3 here. I do think New Vegas is a much better game, and there's a lot of things I don't like about 3, but as someone who went into 3 going 'this is going to suck soooooooo hard' I'll happily admit I was wrong. (but the pre-Broken Steel ending still sucks monkey balls)

Actually, Fallout 3 totally sold me on Bethesda, I'd never touched a Elder Scrolls game beforehand but I bought Oblivion afterwards and really enjoyed it.

The majority of the Fallout fandom aren't on Tumblr. They're a bunch of sweaty neckbeards who hate anything made after 1999 and some of them probably would lynch you for liking Fallout 3.

Who do you hang out with in terms of Elder Scrolls fans? Because most of the people I know love the hell out of Oblivion.

Although I still have not to this day beaten Oblivion (sad, I know), I love these games! Especially FO3. New Vegas is amazing too of course, but I think overall I like the Capital Wasteland better than the Mojave. (I tend to like the companions in New Vegas more though, and probably the majority of the characters in general.)

The writing is better in New Vegas, but the CW is overall a more interesting place because there's much more to it. The Mojave's a bit empty.

Fallout 1 is the greatest RPG ever made, hands down, no arguments, I'll fight anyone who says otherwise, come at me bros. More, I'd say it was so awesome it sucked all the awesome out of its contemporaries and that's why Planescape Torment sucks.

But Fallout 3 is fucking fantastic too. At the time, it had given me what Stalker could not (but really wanted to.) And in a way, it still does. I still play it every other year.

But what about the Baldur's Gate series? I'm not going to argue that Fallout doesn't deserve the best RPG ever title, but Baldur's Gate was pretty bitchin' too. And it had Minsc. MINSC.

I really dislike Fallout 3 (not RAGE HATE, just dislike), but I'll never understand the Oblivion hate. I played it after playing Morrowind, and... it's basically the same shit.

The setting and story in Morrowind were much better, but the combat was horrible; while Oblivion uses that stupid dialogue wheel, it's no better nor worse than the system Morrowind used; for me, there were more fun side-quests in Oblivion; and while the wilderness was really badly done in Oblivion compared to the landscapes in Morrowind, I think the cities in Oblivion had more character. The only thing that puts Oblivion lover on my TES list is the character models. Yuck, those pudding faces! (my poor dunmers DX)

i have around... 300 hours in F3 (i was also going through a tough time and it was a perfect distraction for me so that factored in i think) and maybe 40 hours in NV and then i kind of just stopped. F3 is my favourite just for the atmosphere the game had, it was so much better than NV's.

incidentally i've kind of dropped skyrim at 200 hours because i'm so OP there's no point in doing anything, lol. plus lotro came along.

i guess i just dont get the hate. i'll admit that 3 was my least favourite in the series (which isn't saying much, because i still enjoyed the game plenty), but maybe i just subscribe to the "people like different things" belief too much to get bothered whatsoever when people say it was the best in the series. personally i'm most partial to new vegas and fallout 2 (even though i am fucking awful at 2), but like whatever the fuck you want.

overall, dont take the hate too much to heart. because as said above, there's a good chunk of the fandom (usually hiding away on their own forums) who just have a hatred hard on for new games of any kind. don't lose too much sleep over what they have to say about your taste in games.

(cant speak for elder scrolls though, never played any of those. not my genre)

I was genuinely surprised when I heard people consider Oblivion bad and I am now shocked to hear that Fallout 3 is considered bad too D: Those are two of my favourite games!

About Oblivion I always hear the same though, that you only understand how bad it is if you played Morrowind. Which is not a good argument against a game if you ask me.

That's how I feel about Oblivion (never played the Fallout series). I adore the hell out of Skyrim and I probably would've liked Morrowind if I'd had the patience to endure the awful combat, but Oblivion holds a special place in my heart.

Fallout 3 is my favorite as well! Only the oldbies stuck on 1/2 dislike it, but a lot of the newer fandom (on LJ and Tumblr) love it and New Vegas.

Oblivion I found a bit boring. Not saying it ruined Elder Scrolls forever, just that it's not my cuppa tea. I much prefer Skyrim and Morrowind. But I've seen a lot of divisiveness over these games, so I understand where you're coming from.

I think everyone's favorite Elder Scrolls game is the first one they played. I like Oblivion, but Morrowind will always be my favorite just for being the first time I played a game with that much freedom and stuff to do.

I've played all the Fallouts, and Fallout 3 really is my favorite - 1 and 2 have a really painful interface, and New Vegas... I don't know, just didn't do anything for me. I think I felt a bit restricted - in 3, you can go in whatever direction you want once you leave the Vault. In New Vegas, you can theoretically go wherever you want - but every direction but one is full of Deathclaws or worse...

I have mixed feelings about FO3. The plot was bland and the characters were poorly written, but damned if the thrill of exploring the Capital Wasteland didn't make up for it and then some. Some 100 hours in, I'm almost finished with the plot proper, but I can't bring myself to ever end it. There's always more to find.

i can accept arguments that oblivion isn't horrible, but saying it's better than skyrim is pure lunacy
