THIS AND THIS.

I like to try to educate people, personally, because everyone learns something that way. You can exchange ideas civilly, examine them, mend fences, and move on. Shouting at people without bothering to tell them what they did wrong or why it was wrong does absolutely nothing productive or useful. Sure, you can tell them to Google that shit, but it won't help if they have no idea what the hell they're supposed to be Googling or why.

(And before you go "THAT'S A TONE ARGUMENT, YOU TONE-SHAMER! DON'T OPPRESS ME!"... well, yeah, would YOU be inclined to listen to someone who screams at you and belittles you, and you have no idea what you did wrong? For the most part, we're adults or something like it. We can act like we're civilized and rational.)

I respectfully disagree.

I've met people who disagreed/disliked and who eloquently made their point without 'Internet screaming' and drama, and actually managed to make people think about things instead of just calling them horrible people.

where are you? :(

"Personal sins?" LOL armchair shrink.

Ah the good old "they're all privileged anyway so we don't have to listen to them!" fallacy (and it IS). Try another excuse for dismissal.

I like that.

btw thanks for introducing me to "heterNO," i'm gonna use this all the time now

I was surprised at how much I actually liked that - I don't usually care for romance stuff of any sort but the premise had me curious enough to keep watching. I want to know how it turns out but I'd rather avoid the more "fleshy" parts .... I don't think I'm ready for that yet ... I'm still skimming sex scenes in text format when there's a plot that makes it worth reading.

TW: discussion of pedophilia

[personal profile] masakochan 2012-08-18 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I can still remember thinking that it might've been implied that Fenrir Greyback was a pedophile considering some bit in HBP where he mentions to Dumbledore- about how he enjoys the children. Unless I'm remembering it wrong.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-18 12:56 am (UTC)(link)
I can't help it, I enjoy the fuck out of Jesse and Walt on a D/s level. The scene where he's petting Jesse as he's crying over SOMETHING WALT DID TO HIM... HNG.

yeah but France gets Haribo Smurfs which are the best candy in the entire world so quit your whining :(

I've had Milka in the US and I liked it. I'm not sure if it's the real deal or not.

Could it be people finally have taste? :O

Re: Turning in fannish things as class work...

(Anonymous) 2012-08-18 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
An alternate ending to Gone With the Wind in 7th or 8th Grade. In it I had Scarlett go back to Tara and turn her grief into successfully running the plantation. She also rebuilt her relationships with her other two children.

Rhett died in a fire at that house. Oh and she bought Ashley's plantation next door and gave it to her sister, so Scarlett could have Tara to herself.

I was terribly biased.

SA

Oops, looking closer it looks like I misunderstood - the other videos aren't sequels to this one.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-18 12:58 am (UTC)(link)
I honestly don't like Rarity, and I think she can be kind of an ass. But I always feel weird about criticizing her because it seems like people are just going to assume that I dislike her for being girly. Which is not true.

I also don't like Rainbow Dash that much, and she's obviously a lot less girly, if that means anything.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-18 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
People are asses sometimes. People including me. Contradictions are a thing too. I've forgotten what the point here even was.

(The first quote is a fairly common saying, I was being tongue-in-cheek. I also don't disagree with you, I may be entirely wrong about the situation.)

(Anonymous) 2012-08-18 12:59 am (UTC)(link)
Hmm I can definitely imagine Fenrir doing that kind of thing, but that wasn't really the Death Eaters agenda, or how they did things. They kind of did surprise attacks, murdering in quick succession. Not saying there is no possibility of it, but I just don't think that is what JKR was trying to get across without saying it. I also don't think that she intended for Umbridge to be gang raped by centaurs but people love to read that into the story as well, so I guess no one really cares what her intent was for the story.

Probably Xena & Gabrielle. Agree on Scully & Mulder and Frodo & Sam (not in the platonic sense, though).

Er...I'm not sure about the rest, but I know Gojyo/Hakkai & Kurama/Hiei were two of the first 'big' ships I participated in fandom for.

I know Caramellos! I love Caramellos!

Dammit, now I want chocolate.

(Anonymous) 2012-08-18 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
agree about the self-insert part. i'm not asexual, but i really like the idea of asexuality, so i tried to read some fic. they all read like after school specials on asexuality, clearly just the writers creating their perfect relationships through fanfic.

Starbursts are awesome!

And I love chocolate-coated pretzels, whether in twisty or straight form. (-:

Gaming is still too young to have outlived a common fruit fly and it's already beginning to turn out significant products. Let's all gather back here when the medium's at least as old as comics to have a broader view of the topic, but even now, we're talking 'few', not 'zero'.

'sides, as someone relevant pointed out (Aarseth? Someone?), gaming's inherent features make it even more fragmented in nature than other media. It makes less sense to lump together a shmup and a classic adventure game than it does with radically different movie genres. Some works only serve a ludic purpose and that's ok, others aim for something different and that's ok too, but it sure makes things confusing when one tries to talk of 'gaming' in general...

(Anonymous) 2012-08-18 01:01 am (UTC)(link)
I respectfully disagree. "SJW" means "they said things in a way I didn't like! Waaah so mean!"

There's a reason "tone argument" gets pulled out a lot, because "you're hurting your cause by being angry" is the best way to dismiss someone's arguments. Whew!

This doesn't negate that there are some real fucking actualfax genuine douches who are also activists, as with everywhere, and lord knows i've encountered them IRL and online and suffered for it, but if you'll look at this whole thread, "SJW" and "activist" and "meeeaaan" are being fallaciously conflated.

Privilege guilt really really really wants cookies and soothing words.

Green & Blacks do some really amazing chocolate flavours. In the US most wholefood/organic food stores (or supermarket departments) seem to have a Green & Blacks shelf. I love the Maya Gold flavour - it's got orange and spices in it. Bit pricey though.

I am stupidly addicted to peanut butter Lindors lately. It is just not like other pb candy - the texture is incredible and it tastes a little sweeter, too. nom :(
