Ships you tried to ship but just didn't get...

So have you ever joined a fandom, noted the dominant pairing and just gone with the flow and tried to ship it? Sometimes that works out ok, but what about the times when you've waded through all the canon and the pairing just doesn't make sense to you so you let the ship sail away into the night.

I tried Destiel and failed. Just can't get it. I know there's subtext but all I feel is apathy towards them. I'm not even a Wincest shipper either.

I didn't ship Ted/ Robin when they were a thing in HIMYM and I can not stand Merlin/ Gwaine even though they offer some variety to Merlin/ Arthur.

What ships did you try?

I just can't get over the age and maturity level, even if Aang grows in the latter later in the series.

I also couldn't get behind Zutara, because they were just a huge CLASH!! to me. Not even endearing.

Mycroft/Lestrade and Moriarty/Moran. Just don't see the appeal :/

Also, pony shipping in general, I just can't get into that (except for saying'aw' at some of the canon ships when they air).

Pretty much any popular ship in ASOIAF. I'm the closest to "getting" Jamie/Brienne, but while I like their characters individually and as friends, I just can't bring myself to want them to be romantically involved.

And Sandor/Sansa. Good lord. I went into the series knowing it was a Thing and expecting to see Moments, but the only times I could make remotely work ended up hitting my squick button big time, so I backed away slowly.

I also tried Draco/Hermione for all of five seconds.

In DA2, I can't deal with either Anders or Fenris as love interests. Fenris because I can't get behind broody and violent. Anders because of the stupidity that's Act 3. I feel the same way about Ashley/Kaiden in ME3, I suspect that I should probably download the game in a language I'm not fluent in, because the English language dialogue is insufferable.

In TV-land, I tried to give Bones/Booth a chance but lost it about the 10th time the closing moments of the episode involved a patronizing emotional or spiritual, "I told you so" from Booth. (Not to mention Brennan's alternating mastery and ignorance of cultural anthropology, usually in the same episode, sometimes in the same fucking scene.)

After I got over my disbelief that MCU Clint/Coulson was such a popular pairing, I tried to read some of the fic. But, even fic from authors I liked didn't do anything for me.

I thought it was because I thought the characters were boring, but that's not it. I just think there isn't enough antagonism or foe-yay or emotion or whatever between Clint/Coulson.

Just about all of the main ships in SPN, with the choices being incest and inter-species (with questionable consent from vessels). I've read good fics, but can't get myself interested in the shipping side of them.

Megatron and Starscream. I can see it happening only if one starts a relationship with the intent of killing the other in his sleep. Usually it's just abusive as hell.

I actually made a secret about this, once upon a time.

Shizuo/Izaya from Durarara. It just... doesn't work for me. I don't know why. There's a grand total of one fic that I kinda sorta vaguely enjoyed. Other than that, nothing. I just can't see it. There are some ships where I can enjoy the fics even if I don't really ship it (Kurogane/Fai, I'm looking at you), but Shizaya is the only one that just Does. Not. Work. in my brain.

I have a problem where whenever a fandom goes crazy over a pairing I get really bored of it (unless the fandom is just too dead for me to feel over-saturated).

This has hit me particularly bad in the Princess Tutu fandom. I love Fakiru in canon but I get bored with the majority of the fanwork for it.

Spy/Engineer in Team Fortress 2. I like them individually and with other characters just fine, but not with each other.

I was gonna mention some in the Mega Man classic fandom, but I can't really say what, if any, pairings are dominant and they're all based on fanon and headcanon anyway.

Chihaya/Arata. I tried because, if romance does happen, it's pretty obviously the one that's going to happen, but Arata gets so little screentime, I can't bring myself to like him enough to ship him with Chihaya. And I do prefer Taichi, but I don't necessarily want to see him getting with Chihaya.
And gonna second Kurogane/Fai. It was the most popular pairing, but it never did anything for me. But then I went and read xxxholic and discovered Doumeki/Watanuki and shipped them like mad, I think they were even my first m/m OTP.

I just... nope. I'll write it because my girlfriend likes it (and because sometimes I feel like being a reviews whore), but I just don't see them that way at all.

...Unless Bones gets involved. I will totally ship it as an OT3. But Kirk/Spock alone... nope.

Charles/Erik. I just found most of the fics I read pretty bland, and the ones I sort of enjoyed were all AUs. I just don't like the fanfiction for that pairing, I guess.

(And I read lots of them. LOTS. No recs needed, I promise.)

Okay, OT but why would anyone ship Ted/Robin? Future!Ted told the audience in THE PILOT EPISODE OF THE SHOW that they wouldn't end up together. Ever. No matter what. The couple was cute for what it was (although imo their subsequent friendship was even better) and Josh and Cobie had mad chemistry that made it very believable, but it was canonically and specifically doomed from the moment it came into existence, it was never ever implied or treated in an endgame fashion, and Future!Ted had no problem reminding the audience of it's doomed-ness by referring to her as "Aunt Robin" all the time even when he was narrating the episodes during the period he and Robin were dating, so idk how anyone could ship it in the canonical sense.

Of course that didn't stop some batshit insane people, but I'm assuming you're not one of those deluded loons who were looking for a loophole and saying stuff like "WAIT WAIT I KNOW HE MARRIES THE MOTHER THEN DIVORCES HER THEN MARRIES ROBIN".

Umm...anyway, on-topic...I hate CJ/Toby with the power of a blinding "NO". They're not ridiculously popular, but they're pretty popular and just...nooooooooooo. Nope. Nada. Nyet. Negatory. The rest of what Dr. Cox said. *points to icon*

Not really that I didn't get it, but Vincent/Sophia in Last Exile. I completely understand the appeal of the ship, and I OT3 them with Alex. It just... I went looking for fic after after the first time I watched LE, mostly Alex/Sophia(OTP forever.) but I didn't find much. I did find some Vincent/Sophia, and I really liked Vincent, so I decided to give it a try. Every freaking one I read was a variation of "Lets force Sophia to marry Vincent even though she clearly doesn't love him, and is in most cases still mourning the man she did love but accidentally killed."

I didn't know I had that squick until then. It just completely killed any chance I had of liking Vincent/Sophia as a ship.

Ashe/Basch I read a few fics with them as a paring, it just bothers me for some reason. It think it's the 17 year age difference between them. They way Basch just treats her as someone to be protected and respected, and he doesn't seem to get too close to her emotionally or even physically. I mean Ashe seems more emotionally intimate with Vaan and Balthier, because she never discusses her motivation for revenge or the fact that she has trouble deciding what to do. There's also no chemistry between them.

Sesshoumaru/Kagome I don't think he even acknowledges her presence most of the time, he's too focused on Inuyasha, Rin, Kagura, and Tenseiga to give a shit about her. She's an icky human, and she's nor Rin.

Spike/Faye; I cannot see them as more than antagonistic buddies no matter how hard I try. Dante/Nero; it bothers me on so many levels (despite me shipping twincest just fine) that I can't even read it, let alone write it (unless it's for humor purposes). Kid Flash/Robin; they're funny and cute as best friends, but as a couple I find them utterly uninteresting.

Seconding the Zutara. I watched Avatar waiting for some epic subtext between the two, because the pairing is so (in)famous in online fandom. But Katara and Zuko hardly even talked to each other, let alone seemed like they would have compatible personalities. I just don't get the pairing at all, and I'm usually all for shipping non-canon couples.
