Re: Shitty movie with good premise

[personal profile] forgottenjester 2012-09-09 04:11 am (UTC)(link)
It's actually kind of funny. I liked the sequel even less because the only thing it had going for me was the "ooo~ pretty".

I do know what you're talking about with the first one though. I felt the movie itself was confused at times and not really sure what it was doing. If the movie itself is confused then I'm not sure how a regular audience member was supposed to come out 100% into it. Sad thing. They could have done it so much better.

I assumed SJWs were female until I met a gay guy (who, like many SJWs, was so caught up in his own causes that he couldn't fathom that other people had issues, too) who was one. They started popping out of the woodwork after that. Ugh. I pretty much hate them all.

Possibly because trolls like to bring up rape and misogynist topics? I assume the same thing.

Oh it totally would -- maybe not so much with Roy/Hughes, they aren't in the same chain of command, but Roy/Ed has all kinds of potential skeevy. You got an age difference, a power difference, and Roy has the dirt on Ed to boot. A lot of writers (including me) explored all the various fucked up ways that could go. And a lot of writers just ignored all the problems and wrote it as being cute and waffy.

No I wouldn't suggest Roy/Ed to someone who had a problem with chain of command. Personally I preferred Roy and Risa's relationship being depicted as gen, because that appealed to me more, not because I have any squick about the issue. But I can see how people might.

Probably. I still feel bad about that assumption though because girls can be just as mean as guys. I just don't know how to change it in my head.

This. And I've loved them from day 1, even when I wanted to bang my head into the wall over the whole UST crap.

I still want to shoot Booth half the time, but I love them so much. ;~;

Which is what I'm saying. Bisexuality is defined as a sexual attraction to men and women while homosexuality is the sexual attraction to only one gender. You're a five, but you choose to identify as a lesbian. It has nothing to do with invalidation. You choose to label yourself as something that you can't in the strictest sense be defined as. This is exactly the situation that I see Kanaya in.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-09 04:21 am (UTC)(link)
Depends on how you define lesbian. There are lesbians who are not strictly homosexual.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-09 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
Maybe it's weird, but I identify as Bi and that line doesn't bother me on its own. I feel like it describes me. I go through phases. I'm not constantly 50/50 with men and women, I switch, and there are weeks where I wonder why I ever liked men, and women are all I can think of, but then I switch back and it's all about men and wow what was I thinking I need penis.

So the line isn't my issue, really, it's the fact that it comes from Moffat... who's got loads of other issues regarding women and such.

YOU'RE INVALIDATING MY SEXUAL EXPERIENCES BY MAKING A CANONICALLY GAY CHARACTER STRAIGHT. DOING THE OPPOSITE IS COMPLETELY DIFFERENT BECAUSE EVERYONE KNOWS YOU CAN'T DISCRIMINATE AGAINST STRAIGHT PEOPLE.

Actually I think in this case it depends on how Andrew Hussie defines lesbian.

However, since he has used the word bisexual before, clearly knows what it means, and has bisexual characters - I think he would have used the word bisexual if it were applicable to this character.

Again, the creator has stated that she's a lesbian. I am not sure it is actually possible to be more canon than that.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-09 04:27 am (UTC)(link)
Bisexual privilege. BISEXUAL PRIVILEGE. What is this, the Roman Empire? I get shit from gays, straights, and popular culture. The ones I really love are the homosexual "you're just confused", "I don't want to be with someone who's been with the opposite sex", and "bisexuals have to be 50/50; I'm not bi because I like men/women more, and you can't be bi, either". Honestly, the straights at least aren't painfully ironic about their bullshit.

Stiles would make a horrible protagonist. Scott is the heart of the show and he has consistently shown that he cares about people. Stiles is funny, endearing and charming (except for the finale where I wanted to choke him for his gross behavior), but he doesn't even blink when someone like Isaac falls on the ground or follow-up when Erica tells him she liked him.

So I mean, whatever, your opinion is most of tumblr's opinion at least (and maybe even my opinion in S1), but Scott McCall is amazing.

Ahhh, yes, I can see why they'd target the replies to that one.
Thanks.

I think as proven in the S2 finale when they shoe-horn Stiles into an episode in an awkward way, it doesn't work as well as when they give the whole cast time to shine.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-09 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
Shut the fuck up. They're not erasing the gay character- they're shipping a character who CAN'T be gay with a member of the opposite gender. Every time someone pulls this "erasure" bullshit, they're basically saying bisexuals can't exist. And that's fucked up.

OMG YES. I only tuned in to the last season for Jake. They broke my heart. Thankfully WoWP let me OTPs live on.

Well at least it answers the question. CR has been a huge question mark for me for weeks. Now I finally know what pronouns to use! :D

Oh my god I love you. I can never find anyone else who isn't crazy about this Epic Rory shit that came out of nowhere, and to be honest, I just don't like him. He's kind of bland the rest of the time, with a few cute one liners here and there. And then he pulls this "I love you more because of the 2000 years" without acknowledging any of Amy's very obvious feelings for him.

And I loathe how the show is treating Amy. I love original Amy, the one we were initially introduced to, and the one we see when there's no Rory-drama around. But the writers are screwing up her progress and keep dragging her back. I feel like the Doctor doesn't help, either. I'm starting to get just tired of 11.

(Anonymous) 2012-09-09 04:33 am (UTC)(link)
But that's assuming that those wanting to ship Kanaya with a male are men. Some of us just want to see bisexual characters or are more interested in shipping characters than their dangly bits. If trolls even have dangly bits.

Just read an Avengers one today, so they do exist.
