I think this is a pretty ridiculous notion considering the canon Scott/Allison and Scott's character in general. I think it's less believable than Sterek and that's saying something considering I avoid it like the plague.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 10:21 pm (UTC)(link)
At the very least, I think the OP is on to something. Maybe they weren't trying to develop a full-fledged relationship but Isaac's sexual orientation isn't set in stone. I do think they going in the "secret crush" direction for him. They even made it a point to have them brush each other's hands in that scene that was already ripe with sexual tension. Why go there if you make no plans to further the development?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 10:28 pm (UTC)(link)
I thought this too. Also there is the Isaac/Jackson/Erica scene. In my headcanon Isaac is bi-curious or more.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 10:32 pm (UTC)(link)
I must have missed that sexual tension. Mostly Isaac just comes across as a guy who'd like to have more friends.

God, I've been in various slash fandoms for years but I feel like an old curmudgeonly prude who can't see UST when TW fandom talks about all the sexual tension. I'm always like DID I CLOSE MY EYES WHEN THAT HAPPENED OR SOMETHING??

(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 10:51 pm (UTC)(link)
I could see it from Isaac's side just not from Scott's. I guess that's where I'm at. But I don't see why they couldn't still do that even "with" Sterek. In the far-fetched world where anyone ever follows through on Sterek, I don't think this suddenly rules out other queer characters. So I can totally believe Isaac's orientation as not being straight, I just don't see it being reciprocated--regardless of the status of Sterek in canon.

But I will say, I think sometimes slashers see slash where maybe Isaac just really wants friends and stability after being abused by his father for so long. *shrugs*

Come on, Scott/Allison is pretty much the basis of Scott's whole character arch. More likely Scott is going to start building his own pack, and Isaac will join because the two have become close buddies. And how much money would you be willing to bet on that Sterek is going to happen? I wouldn't invest one cent.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 10:27 pm (UTC)(link)
actually, the creators said they're seriously considering making sterek canon.

[personal profile] anonymouslyyours 2012-10-05 10:30 pm (UTC)(link)
Oh great. This won't give fandom any reason to be more annoying on tumblr.

Ok fine. I'll admit I'm just jealous.

Where did they say that? Sure, they have acknowledged the fandom and play with it, but that's a long way from making it to the screen.

LOL. Okay, I'm alllll for Scott/Stiles. That ship is yum. But canon put Scott with Allison in the first episode and they aren't going to change that. The Teen Wolf writers are remaking bloody Romeo and Juliet. That's not a whim.

I also think that there is no chance in hell of Sterek happening on screen. At most, we might get some actual on screen ship teasey moments instead of just the actors hamming it up off screen for their fans.

Edit: Oh is that Isaac. Scott/Isaac is fun. Not my fave, but I'd read it.

ok this whole thing about sterek being sure to happen

look

tbh I like it too. It's a fun dynamic between total opposites and it can go anywhere on the sliding scale from fluffy to dark and/or kinky as hell. So yeah, it's a slash party. But really guys, in terms of slashability of popular non-canon pairings, I can think of a ton of ships that had much more frequent and intense canon interaction, even ones where everybody knew about it and the actors thought it was funny and the creators wink-winked about it, and none of them have become canon, not ever. Like, I think there's a really big difference between the way fangirls squee over a slash pairing -- THEY WOULD BE SO PERFECT FOR EACH OTHER OMG -- and the way that (slash-positive) actors, writers, producers, and execs interpret our squee, which is more like: "Well this is cute and fun and harmless!" So when they nod and play along, we get our hopes up, but I think really they're mostly expecting it to be an unspoken understanding that none of it is serious.

The creator has not once said that he will make Sterek canon. He's thrown little winks out to the audience, like, oh who knows where this could go? but then in the same breath he talks about what territory he wants to explore with Stiles/Lydia in S3, or mentions that one thing he's learned about TV is that once you've satisfied the audience's desire, the story is over. To me this is not optimistic stuff.

Also, I think mostly once a writer has an idea written into a character, it's hard to write it out or change it based on audience whim. I know they've purposefully hinted that Stiles is bi, but so far his main romantic connection is to Lydia. Even if they did decide to go for canon Sterek, they'd have to find a way to wrap up that storyline, as to not disrespect the storytelling so far. As for Derek, he's been sexualized solely in a heterosexual context. He canonically slept with Kate; the two male wolves he turned, he turned off-screen, but when he turned Erica, it was played for eroticism -- he was running his hands up her legs and yanking her down the stretcher; he ad Erica kissed later. These are the kind of character preconception -- that errbody straight and destined for straight romance unless immediately and firmly established to be otherwise -- that writers will be reluctant to change. And even if they weren't, who says MTV would go for it?

So yeah, sorry. I think the Sterek = canon stuff is way overblown. I mean, the fact that the creator is saying HEY WHO KNOWS is super cool, because that's surely the closest any slash ship has ever gotten. But put big money down on this.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 10:52 pm (UTC)(link)
Thank you. It's nice to read a more levelheaded take on this. Just because the creators don't immediately shoot down fandom speculation or ideas, it doesn't mean that they'll write it into the show.

I'm not at all certain that Sterek will become canon, but I'm at least a little bit optimistic. There've been background gay characters and one supporting gay character on Teen Wolf already, and MTV was one of the first networks to feature an openly gay man with AIDS in its programming (Pedro Zamora of The Real World: San Francisco). This in no way guarantees that Sterek--or any other gay couple--will become canonical, of course. But I do think that it opens up the possibility that Teen Wolf will go ahead and take that chance if MTV and/or Jeff Davis thinks it might be well-received.

I know they've purposefully hinted that Stiles is bi, but so far his main romantic connection is to Lydia. Even if they did decide to go for canon Sterek, they'd have to find a way to wrap up that storyline, as to not disrespect the storytelling so far.

His main romantic interest is in Lydia; "connection" implies that she's interested back, which really doesn't seem to be the case. And, sure, they should wrap up Stiles's unrequited love storyline, regardless of whether he gets involved with anyone else, but I don't see why that should be considered a difficult task. Unless Davis plans to draw out the triangle indefinitely, then at some point in the show, Lydia will fall out of love with Jackson and/or Stiles will fall out of love with Lydia and/or one of those three characters will die (or die again, in Jackson's case). Any or all of those seem to me like things that could reasonably occur...though, as someone who likes all three characters, I'm really hoping that the last item doesn't happen.

Can someone please explain to me why people actually think Sterek is going to be canon? Look, I'm not a super-hardcore fan so maybe I missed some little detail that implies canonicity, but seriously, WHAT. WHY. How does this ship have canon merit?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 10:50 pm (UTC)(link)
The comment above you explains it (and debunks it) perfectly.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-05 11:00 pm (UTC)(link)
I think it started out as wishful thinking and then creators/writers/actors didn't shoot it down or ignore it and now it's grown into this monster. Mostly, it's people hiding behind MORE LGBTQ CHARACTERS ON TV, when really they just want Sterek. WHICH IS FINE but just fucking say that.

Stiles/Derek is my OTP but I have mixed feelings about it becoming canon. We've all been in fandoms when our ships go canon and somedays, there is no coming back from that. (Spike/Buffy, anyone?) At the same time, I think there is chemistry there (but then again, there is practically canon with everyone on this damn show) and it could be interesting.

Why does it have canon merit? I think because it doesn't directly interfere with canon ships. It involves brooding, dark characters with nice muscles and characters that people adore without shipping them with anyone (Stiles). While I think it has canon merit but solid possibility that creators haven't shut down.

Yeah, no. I coud see Isaac crushing on Scott, and while Scott is portrayed as being cool with gay guys (Danny, being hit on a the gay club), I don't think he'd reciprocate. I think they'd be good packmates, I think Isaac might look up to Scott, but I cannot imagine them as a canon pairing.

Also, if they went the way of Sterek as canon, I would much much prefer it to be season 4 or 5 at least, and not be Stiles first relationship, and they have a long long long long way to go before I'd ever buy them as a couple.

(Isaac/Danny ftw, as always).

This a million times. In all facets.

(Isaac is such a hot mess though. I ship him with anything that moves, like Isaac/Chris Argent. Get. Some.)

Isaac's my favorite character, so I love his chemistry with Scott and ship Scott/Isaac, but like most people have already said up thread, I don't think they'll ever be a canon couple. Scott/Allison is obviously endgame and, Imo, they're cute. However, I DO think there are hints at Isaac's bisexuality (it seems like maybe he has a one-sided crush on Scott, not to mention his three-way dance Erica and Jackson) so I'd really, really love to see Danny/Isaac. That way, hopefully, we get more Danny, too!

Which doesn't rule out Sterek. It's not my favorite pairing, and I don't really think the creators are doing more than teasing fans about it, but if it becomes canon, I think it'd be cool. C:
