Sorry, that storyline was way to creepy. Dukat could only be romantic with one person, himself. Otherwise...just creepy. Like giving a romantic storyline between Eichmann and a concentration camp survivor.

First time that I hear about this. It was pretty creepy to begin with, and with the later revelation about Kira's mother (which I thought was really stupid) and Dukat going batshit insane it would have been one awful romance.

Yeahhhhhhhh I don't agree, mostly because it's really, really hard for me to have any sympathy for Dukat as a character. He's a really well-presented and complex and realistic character, yes. But not sympathetic.

tbf he would probably be more sympathetic if the storylines had played out differently, but still. Dukat is not really redeemable, he's not a nice guy, and I think it would be really difficult to do a Dukat / Kira romance that wouldn't have been weird and off-putting, even putting aside the political weirdness of it (what someone said above about a concentration camp guard dating a Holocaust survivor) and the difficulty reconciling it with Dukat's past and Kira's character.

I know you are trolling (and doing a decent job, I might add, since I can't keep away despite my awareness), but I've got to get a little pedantic.

It's not that Nana Visitor didn't want to do it, but that she felt it was out of character for Kira. I absolutely agree. I think it would have taken some unfortunate character modifying to make Kira accepting Dukat's romantic advances seem remotely plausible. Sure, she can work with him when need be, but that doesn't mean she would ever entertain the thought of being romantically involved with him. Another Cardassian? Maybe. But never Dukat.

Thanks for bringing up the probability that this is as troll secret. I honestly hadn't considered it until now and was genuinely upset.

My personal take that comes from having just finished watching DS9: I can without hesitation state that I think Dukat is genuinely depraved and unable to have a meaningful, mutual romance with ANY sentient being.

I'm so glad Nana Visitor said it would have been OOC for Kira, but frankly, it would have been just as OOC for Dukat.

Kira/Odo was so great (though Garak/Bashir is my favourite ship of all Star Trek ever). I tried to explain it to someone and was like, "She's a former terrorist, he's a sentient liquid that sleeps in a bucket." It was enough to convince them to start watching it.

She didn't want to do it because that was literally the most creeptastic idea in the entire show. Pretty good reason to me. Leave that kind of fucked-up-ness to fic.

You may not like it, OP, but you need to respect the wishes of the actress. If she's uncomfortable with it, then they really can only either force her to do it (uh, way creepy there), or back off, or fire her. Of those three, only one of those makes you not a shitty human being to pursue.

This ship is my favorite DS9 pairing, but I agree with the other commenters. It would have been massively out of character if it had happened in canon. Cheer up, OP, anything can happen in fanon!

Uh, yeah. I have a terrible love for this pairing in fanfic, but only of the dub-con to non-con variety, because that's the only way in hell it would ever happen. Kudos to Visitor for standing her ground on this one and keeping it out of canon.

Honestly, Dukat/Wynn makes more sense. I didn't like it but it made more sense. They were very alike and I can buy Wynn being bitter enough at her people and the Prophets for rejecting her to go there. Kira would have to betray everything she stood for to even consider it. It would be one thing if it was a grunt Cardassian cannon fodder soldier or a bureaucrat but Dukat?

There are just a lot of things that just belong to fanfic more than the actual show.
