I'm the complete opposite. I went in skeptical, expecting not to like it (I barely like BBC, and that only in a popcorn-fluff kind of way). Then...I did. The reason? Because it's a very non Sherlock/Watson interaction. I don't know if they decided to make the relationship more equal to get femenism points or whatever, frankly idgaf. Apparently, Watson's inherent submissiveness pisses me the fuck off. (Probably should have realized that when I first read a story...)

You can go ahead and not tell them, OP, but the fact that it did succeed on US TV (and, at the moment, at least outlasted Made in Jersey) should be enough to make the more outspoken pre-Elementary trashers upset anyway.

Same here. I really wanted to love it, but I thought the plot was stupid and JLM was the blandest Holmes I've ever seen. I don't even want to watch the other episodes anymore.

yeah i thought it was alright.. i think it's hilarious how these arguments persist between these 2 fandoms though. you didn't hear all this shit when bbc sherlock was coming out around the same time as the american sherlock holmes movies, did you?

I went in with zero preconceptions and now it's like, my new fandom. (Oh, what a world.)

If you don't like it, you don't like it. Either quietly slink off the tags/comms/etc or just say 'sorry, it's not my taste, you guys have fun' and go.

And honestly there's nothing wrong with defending it before it comes out because a lot of the criticism leveled against it was because they dared make Watson a girl.

What didn't you like about it? I was pretty excited for it and it met my expectations (although I was an easy sell--Lucy Lui AND Aidan Quinn? SOLD.), but I'd be interested in hearing from the other side.

I might suggest watching the second episode because that's what really sold me (I felt some of the kinks from the pilot got ironed out), but if you hated it with the fire of a thousand suns then don't force yourself. If you don't like it, you don't like it.

I'm glad someone said this. I actually didn't hate it, but I didn't care for it all that much either (honestly, I was mostly just bored by it). But it's become such a thing with all the fuss beforehand that it feels a little bit like no one can criticize it now without being classed as one of "those" fans.

I can understand disliking the show if it's not your cup of tea (heh), but it was pretty well put together and I was very impressed. I'd have liked it even without the backlash fueling me. Anyway if you didn't like it, eh, who cares. It's not like people are going to set you on fire.

You may not be, but I can't help but think that you're actually one of the insufferable BBC Sherlock fans. If so, I salute you for your cleverly constructed wank bait.

On a different note - I'm quite enjoying Elementary. It helps not coming into it as a ACD purist, I suppose, because I'm not bothered about changes. I'm actually not a huge fan of the BBC version, probably because all of the hype surrounding it left me expecting more. Without those expectations, I probably would have enjoyed it more.

I think it wouldn't be so bad for you to own up to that secret. "I kept an open mind about the concept, but then I actually watched it and it sucked, lol" is actually not that much of a secret. You can re-build your bridges with the Sherlock people with your mutual hate and it will be awesome.

If someone asks just say it wasn't your thing. Plus, if you were defending against the sexism or Sherlock elitism, your point is still valid even if you didn't like the show. Plus, you can still respect others that do like Elementary.

At the end of the day, they're both just TV series, and I say this as a BBC Sherlock fan. You tried it, you didn't like it. I don't see why it should be a big deal. And, if anyone tries to make it into a big deal, they're taking *TV* waaaay too seriously.
