Halle Berry is biracial. You have as much right to identify with her as any black person does.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 08:38 pm (UTC)(link)
She's not a POC.

She's a person.

Short hair for women is so under rated. There are so many actresses out there who look so much better with short hair than the standard long haired look. For example, I think Angelina Jolie looks stunning with short hair. It's all cheek bones and those eyes, which seem to get lost with her long hair.

Berry, here, is another one. She can rock the short hair look like no other. Long hair does not suit her.

Yess. I don't generally find women attractive, but short hair? Yes. Especially close-cropped short hair like Halle Berry here and Angelina Jolie in Hackers.

I love short hair on women. Love looking at it on others and love having short hair myself. *g*

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 08:27 pm (UTC)(link)
You have a role model over a hairstyle?

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 08:57 pm (UTC)(link)
I'm guessing that you've never been given the "short hair is only for lesbians"/"girls with short hair are ugly"/"men won't find you attractive without long hair" lectures. It takes confidence for a woman to cut her hair short since everyone MUST have an opinion on it.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-23 03:48 am (UTC)(link)
Absolutely.

You ever walk into a salon and try to describe what you want the stylist to do? Can be a hell of a conversation full of chances for things to get misunderstood. You walk into a salon, hand the stylist a photo and say "I want THAT"? Much easier. This is why Emma Watson is my short-hair role model, because that's EXACTLY what I want and it cuts out a sometimes-half-hour conversation including such wonderful phrases as "I'm not sure you want it that short..." or "but other 'girls' are wearing..."

I think it would be pretty messed up if we lived in a world where we weren't allowed to be inspired by someone because of their race. It's not like you're preventing other people from looking up to her, so it's not stealing.

There was a secret a while back about someone's friend telling them they couldn't have a certain super hero for a favorite character because the character was black and the person was white. So, yeah, while it shouldn't, that attitude does exist.

This is why internet 'Social Justice' is beginning to do so much real damage, to race, and gender relations.

You don't have to relate just to non-POC people just because they're not POC...if you relate to someone then you relate to them no matter their race. Saying only non-POC aren't allowed to relate to POC runs the risk of sounding just as racist as saying POC aren't allowed to relate to people of other races.

Role models are not a zero sum system.

You having her as a role model takes nothing away from anybody else.

And that is all I have to say about this secret.

she was my "hairspiration" when i had short hair, too anon

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 09:48 pm (UTC)(link)
this secret is so dumb

how the hell can you "steal" someone's role model

she isn't a "black people only" rolemodel, just like white famous people aren't just for white people, female stars aren't just for women and male stars aren't just for men. jesus christ, this secret borders on offensive. they're just people. I don't know who you've been listening to to get this mindset but knock it off

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 09:53 pm (UTC)(link)
This

Pretty sure that Halle Berry would side eye anyone who was afraid to admire her because she's black. Come on.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-21 11:04 pm (UTC)(link)
Sadly there are people out there who will point blank tell someone 'if you're white you're not allowed to have a role model/favorite character/whatever that isn't isn't white!' because...they think that's racist or...something. I don't actually get the logic - nor do I want to get the logic, in all honesty.

Either way, I wouldn't be surprised if that attitude isn't, in part, why the OP made this secret.

Disclaimer: I'm white, might not know what I"m talking about, etc.

That being said, I think admiring someone of another race is probably more progressive than only admiring white people or being inspired by them, so I think you're good.

Look at it this way: if a man has a woman as a role model, do you think, "How dare he?! She should only be a role model for women!"? No, because that would be not only ridiculous, but kind of sexist - not to him, but to her for reducing her to her gender and limiting her relevance to society, even if only in your mind.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-22 01:21 am (UTC)(link)
She always looks so badass with short hair. I love it. :D

(Anonymous) 2012-10-22 02:39 am (UTC)(link)
I thought you were going to say it was because she is really talented. But hair is good I guess.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-22 07:11 am (UTC)(link)
This is exactly what's wrong with the world today, and both sides are guilty of it. "PoC's" aren't any *different* from you. They're not a separate species stranded here after their spaceship crashed, and it's okay for you to identify with them as HUMAN BEINGS.

I'm "PoC" too btw, although I hate that term. I was just lucky enough not to be born in the US.
