Though if you called me pie face I would think you were calling me ugly. I may make an exception for pumpkin pie face simply because, come on, pumpkin pie.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-24 11:56 pm (UTC)(link)My personal favorites are kicks, swell, rad, the big cheese, spiffy, swanky, the boonies, wiggin', and damn skippy.

But then I started reading Philip Marlowe books, and it jogged my speech quirks and saying stuff like "swell," and ended up getting some snorts from my more modern-inclined friends.

(Anonymous) 2012-10-25 01:52 am (UTC)(link)Sorry OP, but roughly 90 years have passed since most of those slang terms were really relevant so a lot of the words have changed meaning and connotation* since then, so most people just flat out what get what you're talking about a lot of the time.
*And generally they've changed to be more insults/slurs than not - plus, you might want to make *very* sure what you're saying means what you think it means, since standards for what was acceptable were vastly different at the time.

It worked for me, my non-English-speaking friends don't find the random English words I pepper the conversation with strange. They've even started using some of them.
(And if the meaning is not clear, you can repeat the equivalent in English after the word. I trained my parents to respond to simple fangirl!japanese using this method when I was younger.)
