I'm not OP, but I wouldn't be surprised if they weren't. Writers using pictures of themselves/their kids/their other family members on porn!fic is... well, not common, but far more common than I'd like it to be. (I'm another one of those people who's rather uncomfortable with it, haha.)

If it's an icon, yeah. But I've seen layouts where they have self or family pictures on sidebars that scroll with you. Staring at you the whole time as you try to read their lovely kinky dirty porn. It's just not right.

Not directed at a specific person, per se, but it was made one day after I just snapped at yet another person doing this.

(Also scrolling is generally fine, and I generally do, but in this case I scrolled up to see what else they had written and their face was RIGHT THERE. It was just too awkward.)

slightly OT but have you ever noticed that any time you tell someone their icon is creepy they will say "it's me"? I stopped doing that after it happened a few times (and because I realized that nobody cares how their icon makes you feel), but I've seen other people having that exact same exchange. It's probably an internet rule or something.

I always wanted to say "WELL YOUR FACE IS CREEPY!" but I just learned to scroll instead. Most browsers have a way to block pictures these days, or you can install an app that lets you do that.

You could also just tell them how you feel but that might start drama (so you should definitely do it).

lolol I love the image of you telling several people, in casual conversation, that their icons are creepy. I'm imagining it in chat, and there would be an awkward pause while nobody typed and then a small "it's me" shows up and more awkward silence.

Sidenote, I used to have an icon on a different account that I really really loved but one day a friend told me she found it very creepy and unsettling. I felt guilty and never used the icon again even though it was a favorite. Some of us do care (probably too much).

Thankfully I haven't come across this in a long time. If it's a background or a journal layout with their picture I agree, it can get a little uncomfortable. You might should copy and paste the fic into word? (If it's on a computer, of course. Otherwise...out of luck, I guess. :/)

I'd say pic related because it draws the comparison between reading fanfic/pictures of kids versus having sexytimes/cat jumps on the bed and doesn't give a fuck

I never understood the RL face icon. I always use fandom icons, usually of my OTP or my favorite character.

I feel like the only person not bothered by this. even if I know it's that person, I hardly pay attention to icons outside F!S, so it honestly never crosses my mind.

Well I almost never have icons that show my real face (oh, I have one of my nose on LJ, but it doesn't show much more), preferring to keep a faint modicum of anonymity online.

I also don't understand why someone posting fic can't use an icon at least vaguely relating to the fandom of the fic, unless it's a FFN fic where I presume there are still heaps of people who haven't gone and figured out how to give their fics personalised icons.
